He sold his drawings to neighbours to make more money. He went to McKinley High School and studied art and photography. He took night classes at the Chicago Art Institute. His family encouraged him to pursuit his talents.
•In 1918, Walt dropped out of highschool to join the army. His enlistment was denied because he was only sixteen years old. As an alternative, he joined the Red Cross where he spent a year driving an ambulance in France for Red Cross officials.
