On October 27, 2017 at approximately 2020 hours, I was at the Walmart located at 8701 US HWY 19 Port Richey, FL conducting a foot patrol when I was notified by Walmart loss prevention associate Steven Uliano of a retail theft that had occurred at the garden exit of the store. Steven advised a W/F had passed all points of purchase and had attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart of unpaid merchandise. Steven advised another Walmart employee; Talia Elijah Adams had stopped the W/F and requested to see a receipt because two of the speakers in the shopping cart still contained anti-theft devices that are removed when the item is paid for. Janelle was carrying a Walmart bag containing several items and a purse when I approached her. Janelle was read Miranda from an agency issued card and verbally acknowledged she understood her rights. Janelle agreed to speak with law enforcement and initially advised she had done nothing wrong. Janelle advised the W/M had told her to use her ID and commit a fraudulent return in the store, but she got scared and decided to just exit the store with the merchandise instead. Janelle advised she had initially lied to officers because she was scared and had never been arrested before. Inside of the shopping bag seven items of stolen Walmart merchandise was recovered with a value of $79.08. Janelle was informed she was being placed under arrest for retail theft and a search incident to arrest was conducted of her purse. Inside of the purse nine items of merchandise were discovered along with three empty Walmart shopping bags. The nine items had a total value $96.99. I asked Janelle if the items in her purse were stolen as well and she advised she no longer wanted to speak with me without an attorney present. Two photographs of the stolen recovered merchandise were taken and later electronically submitted into evidence at the Port Richey Police
