INTRODUCTION:
This case involves the suspect using a hatchet to smash the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle in violation of PC 594(b)(1)-Vandalism.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION:

The location was at the intersection of Fair Oaks Avenue and Mountain Street in the city of Pasadena.

EVIDENCE:

1) Hatchet, chrome in color with a black handle, found in the suspect’s possession.
2) Photos of the damage to the vehicle.

INVESTIGATION:
On 01-05-16 at 1042 hours, Officer Cass #2067 and I responded to 881 N. Raymond Avenue for a female yelling and hitting vehicles with an axe. Sergeant Villalovos #9034, Officer Allen #0311 and Officer ???? responded to assist.

Zhorne reportedly saw the vehicle make a right turn on Fair Oaks Avenue. Zhorne then drove left around Owens and began to make a right turn onto Fair Oaks Avenue. Zhorne heard a loud smash at the rear of his vehicle and saw that the driver side rear window was broken. Zhorne then saw a hatchet in Owens’ right hand as she began walking east across Fair Oaks Avenue and Mountain Street.
Zhorne made a U-turn and began following Owens as he telephoned the police department to report the incident. Zhorne followed Owens as she walked east on the south sidewalk of Mountain Street and south on the west sidewalk of Raymond Avenue. Zhorne reportedly saw Owens walk into 881 N. Raymond Avenue and out of sight. Zhorne saw a police unit and notified Officer Allen of Owens location.
I saw that the passenger side rear window to Zhorne’s vehicle was smashed open. I took a photo of the damage (see attached photo).
I arrested Owens for PC 594(b)(1)-Vandalism. Sergeant Villalovos approved the arrest. Officer Cass and I transported Owens to the Pasadena City Jail for booking. Upon our arrival, I read Owens her rights per Miranda from a department issued card. Owens understood her rights by stating, “Yes.” Owens invoked her right and stated she wanted a lawyer present before answering any
