Dargis, Manohla. "Climbing Out of the Gutter With a 5-Year-Old in Tow." The New York Times. The New York Times, 14 Dec. 2006. Web. 03 Apr. 2014.
Dargis, in his review, talks about how he felt Will Smith performed in the Pursuit of Happyness (Gabriele Muccino, 2006). He starts with an overview of the movie, which is about a man and his son living in poverty and trying to make a decent living. Dargis addresses how this film allowed Will Smith to be seen in a different light then most of his other roles. Will Smith usually stars in action comedies or action sci-fi thrillers that require him to be a hero to the masses and to use violence and action to win. In the article though, Dargis takes a look at a different side of Smith and how the Pursuit of Happyness forced Smith to dig deeper and show a warmer, lighter side of Smith, especially since his own son stared with him. Will Smiths role in the Pursuit of Happyness earned him the Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance.
The New York Times article written by Dargis seems to be a credible source. The article looks at how Will Smith performed based on Dargis opinions. The article seemed to be written in the favor of Smith and how he has grown as an actor. Dargis did not write a very objective view but rather one that focused on how Will Smith grew through the movie and as an actor in his opinion.

... early years where he grew up in West Philadelphia. In West Philadelphia is where Smith developed his passion for music and rap, and upon finding this love he started raping at age twelve. He earned the rap name the Fresh Prince from being a quick talker in high school and the name stuck. Eventually Smith crossed over into acting his career, with his first major role being a smart kid from Philadelphia in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Jay-Z was born Shawn Corey Carter on December 4, 1969. He grew up in the infamous Marcy projects in Brooklyn with a sister and a brother. You would think that just growing up on the Marcy projects would be hard enough on a kid, but at the age of twelve, Shawn’s parents got a divorce. Shawn then attended the Brooklyn High school with two of today’s better known rappers, Biggie Smalls and Busta Rhymes.
Emmit Smith announced his retirement February 3, 2005. It was a very emotional moment for Smith, who has played running back in the NFL for fifteen years (thirteen of those years for the Dallas Cowboys). As Smith announced his retirement tears began to flow down his face stating “It’s been a tremendous ride.” Over his career in the NFL, Smith has racked up many impressive statistics and awards. Smith has played on three Super Bowl championship teams (including an MVP award in 1993). Smith is currently the NFL’s all time leading rusher with 18,355 yards.
The main character of the show, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Will Smith, born and raised by his single mother in west Philadelphia, moved
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is a sitcom portraying actor Will Smith in the title role which aired on television from 1990 to 1996 (IMDB). The Fresh Prince is a comedy that showcases the efforts of a young under-privileged black teen trying to adapt to the lavish lifestyle of his wealthy relatives, whom he is sent to live with. The sitcom is actually based on the real life struggles of the producer Benny Medina. The character “Will” was sent by his mother to Bel Air to live with his aunt “Vivian Banks,” played by actresses Janet Hubert and Daphne Reid, and uncle “Philip ‘Uncle Phil’ Banks,” played by actor James Avery, to escape the inner city confines of Philadelphia.
Just imagine, with an all star cast and a high budget set, this film can have great potential. Our leading man, David Nennius, can be played by none other than the handsome Keanu Reeves and his leading lady, Melissa, can be played by the beautiful half African American and half Caucasian, Halle Berry. The rest of the cast can include Elizabeth Hurley as David's pitiful mother, Mary, Cameron Diaz as Rachel, Robert Downey Jr. as her husband Matthew, Hugh Grant as Quinn, and special appearances by Richard Gere as William Meredith and Bruce Willis as Alasdair (Ally). Of course, we would need about ten to fifteen more extras to fill the roles of characters like Art, Grace, Emrys, David's anonymous father, and the man who gets brutally killed by David.
I decided to review “Silver Linings Playbook”, which is based on a romantic-comedy novel written by Matthew Quick. It was produced in 2012 by The Weinstein, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro.
This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.
Before we begin to address this, we must first consult the definition; Among the various ones provided in our textbook, the following phrases will be especially useful for our analysis: Gifted and talented students have “potential high performance capabilities in…specific academic…ability”; “outstanding levels of aptitude (defined as an exceptional ability to reason and learn)”; “above-average general intellectual abilities” (Heward, Alber-Morgan, & Konrad, 2017, pp. 436-437). I find the word potential most striking, especially because many of Will’s friends (as well as Lambeau and Sean) believed that he had significant untapped potential. Also, when standing up for one of his friends at the bar, he went into much detail about historical facts and events in a strikingly logical and academic manner, with vocabulary and elaboration that well-surpassed many of those around

Robin McLaurin Williams was born on July 21,1951 in Chicago. Both of his parents were middle aged with grown children so Williams was raised as an only child. His father was a Ford Motor Company executive and his mother was a fashion model. Because his parents both had successful careers and were often absent the maid of the family raised Williams. He later explained "though he knew they loved him, they found it hard to communicate their affection. In fact, he says he began in comedy through his attempts to connect with his mother I'll make mommy laugh, and that'll be okay.' He was marked by the experience, being left with an acute fear of abandonment and a condition he describes as Love Me Syndrome'"(Wills 1). The family moved frequently because of his father's job. Moving constantly never gave Williams a chance to establish friendships. He was a larger child and often made fun of. Williams developed his quick humor as a way to defend himself from taunts and teases. Finally, Williams' father retired and the family settled down in Marion County, CA. Williams was finally able to establish a place for himself and make friends. At last he felt accepted and like he "fit in."
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.

Good Will Hunting is the graceful tale of a young gentleman’s struggle to find out where he belongs in the world, by first finding out who he himself is. In this film, Matt Damon takes on the role of a disturbed genius that has a keen understanding of the deepness of human character. The film is a voyage through the mind of Will Hunting as he is required to undergo psychotherapy as an alternative to serving jail time. With the assistance of a psychologist, played by Robin Williams, Will learns about himself and recognizes his individual worth in the world by comprehending what is most important to him in his own life. This motion picture serves as a source of superb example for film technique. Gus Van Sant’s directing ability joined with the writing skills of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who also plays Will’s best buddy, Chuckie, is a vibrant mixture of technical features used to induce sentiment and compassion amongst the viewers of this heart-warming film. Characteristics of the color, angles, shots, camera movement, editing, and distortions are all each particularly noteworthy to the general composition of Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting.
Will Hunting epitomises a punk prodigy. The 20-year-old delinquent works as a janitor at MIT, solving impossible equations, meant for students, in his spare time. He is soon recruited by one of MIT’s professors and made to participate in a rehabilitation programme with the hope of being employed by the university. Rehabilitation is made challenging as Will is a troubled individual; having grown up in abusive environments and jumping from different foster homes.
