Jay-Z was born Shawn Corey Carter on December 4, 1969. He grew up in the infamous Marcy projects in Brooklyn with a sister and a brother. You would think that just growing up on the Marcy projects would be hard enough on a kid, but at the age of twelve, Shawn’s parents got a divorce. Shawn then attended the Brooklyn High school with two of today’s better known rappers, Biggie Smalls and Busta Rhymes.
Shawn Carter was an intelligent and promising student, but he had behavior problems. He was introduced to the life of drugs and crime at the age of 16, where he stayed and didn’t look back until, in 1992, he decided to leave the world of drugs and crime.
Soon after doing this he began looking for a record deal as a solo artist. But Shawn just wasn’t getting lucky. It wasn't until a friend, Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash, convinced him to form a record company with him that Jay-Z's career finally got off the ground. Jay-Z released his first single through Roc-A-Fella in 1995, "In My Lifetime." It was a hit in New York, and helped Dash secure a distribution deal for Jay-Z’s first album, “Reasonable Doubt.”
Although “Reasonable Doubt” wasn’t a huge success, it showed that the young man from Brooklyn had skills and was not to be taken lightly. More importantly, it earned the admirations from stars as varied from Notorious B.I.G. to Ice Cube. One of his songs even made its way onto the nutty professor soundtrack.
Shawn’s career only went up from there. In 1997, Jay-Z's follow-up, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, peaked at #3 on the Billboard album charts, and helped establish his career and mainstream success. He continued releasing top selling records until 2003, when he announced the release of the Black Album as his last record.
He may just seem like another rapper to you but if you actually listen to his lyrics you can see he’s not like any rapper out there. His name is Kanye West and he was born in Chicago Illinois. He grew up in the “ghetto” and learned to appreciate life. He didn’t learn to really, truly appreciate life until October of 2002. Driving back to his hotel late one night after a recording session, the new-coming rap/hip-hop artist was involved in a devastating, near fatal car accident. The crash left him with a broken jaw in three places and an appreciation for life. Just weeks after being released from the hospital he recorded his first major hit, “Through the Wire,” with his mouth still wired shut. He records every song like its going to be his last song and that makes every song better than the last. He’s not only a rap artist but also a producer. He has been responsible for being behind songs like Jay-Z’s Izzo, Girls, Girls, Girls, The Takeover, and 03 Bonnie and Clyde.
The pledge of allegiance originally did not include the words, “Under God”, until 1954. This was to combat the horrors of a godless communism. But what does our first amendment rights state? “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech”. By including the words “Under God”, America has recognized one or more religions over others. Doesn’t it violate the key beliefs of our country? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? All our patriots can talk about is our freedom, but they are willing to manipulate information they give to the public, therefore, controlling the beliefs of the population. Religious toleration is one of the main reasons we created this country. People of all religions came to America escaping persecution, and here we are, trying to violate their freedom of religion.
We first look to Gwen’s essay entitled “Why the Pledge of Allegiance Should Be Revised.” The main idea is her rejection of the words “Under God” included in the Pledge of Allegiance. She adamantly believes it to be divisive, and even un-American. With this in mind, she begins her essay by providing us with a little history on the matter. It’s explained to us that the Pledge did not originally include the aforementioned phrase, and in fact contained no reference to any deity. As Gwen believes, the inclusion of the phrase is “an odd addition indeed to a Nation that is said to be ‘indivisible’.” She questions what it means to be a patriotic American. According to her, patriotic Americans aren’t all religious. An important note to her, as she then goes on mention how silence during the Pledge can lead to accusations of being unpatriotic. These accused are, as Gwen says, “somehow not fully an American, maybe even un-American.” Yet her argument is not so much about the constitutionality of the Pledge; an assumption she specifically r...
"After some time Tupac released his own album "2Pacalypse Now", which was a success. His career skyrocketed; he became tight with main pawns in the rapping industry. Tupac signed to Deathrow Labels and released songs and albums with them."
In the essay, Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell illustrates his experiences as a British police officer in Lower Burma, and reflects it to the nature of imperialism. Since “anti-European feeling was very bitter” due to the British Empire’s dictatorship in Burma, Orwell is being treated disrespectfully by the Burmese (12). This allows him to hate his job and the British Empire. However, the incident of shooting of an elephant gives him a “better glimpse … of the real nature of imperialism – the real motives for which despotic government act” (13). Through his life experiences as a British man, Orwell efficiently demonstrates the negative effects of imperialism on individuals and society.
On November 5th, 2013 Eminem released his 8th and final studio album titled Marshall Mathers LP 2. This album has been highly influential since its release and will continue to be discussed for years to come. Eminem is regarded as one of the best rappers ever and he redefined the genre as one of the first white rappers to be successful. Because of his success, Eminem’s final album is bound to be studied and listened to for decades. The reasons for this stem from the artist himself, the album art and title, and the album’s unique style and lyrics.
Now before you can enjoy your dinner you have to know how to get the meat to the plate. After the shot, there is the tracking of your animal. You track the animal by following the blood trail. And on certain occasions tracking Is not required. Once the animal is found and recovered, the bigger game you will need a atv of some type to haul your kill out of the woods. Dragging a deer that weighs upward to 200 pounds to your truck is a very hard task. Now once the deer or animal you are hunting is back home, you want to hang the deer up and field dress your kill. You want to start by making two cuts behind both back legs and Slowly start pulling the hide downward toward the head of the animal. This way you can reach the meat. There are three pieces of meat that is the most tender parts of the deer. First piece is the back strap which is located on both sides of the spin. The second piece is the ham which is on the back end of the deer, and the last piece is the roast which also is located toward the back of the deer. Now the best part after cleaning your kill you have to let the meat cool down. To do this place your meat in a bowl of ice water. Meal prep to season you meat you want to use salt, pepper, and bbq sauce. This marinade is the best I have found so far. You want to let you meat soak over night. Cook your meat on the grill till fully cooked to well done. You do not want a medium to rare deer steak. For the soul purpose that this is
In lieu of the recent events that took place on September 11, 2001, patriotism seems to have skyrocketed across the country?and that increase of patriotism seems to directly correlate with religion as well. Everywhere you look, people are waving around the flag and singing patriotic songs. The most controversial issue to date is our country?s pledge of allegiance, specifically because of two words located near the end of the oath to patriotism. Those two words are ?under God.? The pledge of allegiance originally di...
The most important part of deer hunting is actually going. You can’t expect to kill a deer without going. The basic for hunting is camouflage and a gun/bow. According to Bradshaw (2010), “While deer don’t see as clearly as we do they can still detect motion fairly easy” (p. 45). Deer usually see humans by the movement they make and the form of a body. A deer’s eyes are just completely different than a human. Majority of humans can see color really well, while a deer can’t. We usually can’t see at night while a deer
“Although the First Amendment provides that Congress "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion," lawmakers have passed legislation to set aside a national day of prayer, insert the words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance, adopt "In God We Trust" as the national motto, and place those words on coins and paper money” (Fisher 671).
The follow up album did even better commercially. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts and went double platinum. This album also noted the split up of Wayne and his mentor and producer from Cash Money. The response for his third installment was even bigger, hitting platinum in its first week. Lil Wayne also topped the Billboard charts for the first time with "Lollipop." Many of these songs were leaked prior to the album's release, though it obviously didn't hurt record sales.
In “Shooting an Elephant” by George Orwell, Orwell comes across struggles with his conscience. Imperialism was a thought going through his head and was brought up throughout the story. The Burmese hated the Europeans and Orwell explains what they do to the targeted. Orwell also talks about why the Burmese should be mad at the Europeans. Another struggle he has was the shooting of the elephant and the events leading up to it. Although he had a hard time, Orwell manages to accept what he did and thinks he did what was necessary.
George Orwell was the most important novelist of his century. Orwell wrote about the future of the future world. He predicted that things were going to go ad for the British colony because of imperialism. Shooting an Elephant, a personal narrative, was set in a town called Burma. Orwell explains his intense situation where he had to make a choice on shooting a raging elephant or letting him live. In the story Shooting an Elephant, George Orwell expresses three major messages.
Orwell in the story is a colonial policeman that is disrespected by the Burmese people of the town he is policing. He first uses language of himself as”young and ill-educated” to describe his hatred for his job. This allows him to reflect on colonialism and how he dislikes doing his job because he hates the idea of it so much.Orwell’s later in the story had to respond to a report of a local man who had been attacked by an elephant in Musth . Orwell sees the man “lying on his belly with arms crucified and head sharply twisted to the side.” The corpse had “an expression of unendurable agony.” At this point, Orwell feels the pressure of the Burmese people urging him to shoot the elephant, but Orwell knows that the elephant is not dangerous,
