Rookie The film Rookie is a factual drama that is based on the life of Jimmy Morris, an ex-major league baseball player. The subject matter of the movie was to never quit; try, try again or at least until you reach your goal. This film inspires the person to fulfill their dreams no matter how impossible they may seem. There were not many major characters in this movie, but all played an important roll to the subject matter. Jimmy Morris was the main character, a young man, about 30 years old with a wife, three children, and a career as a chemistry high school teacher and baseball coach. His high school baseball team was the inspiration to him helping to achieve his goal of wanting to be a major league baseball player. Lori Morris, Jimmy’s wife, Hunter was his only young son who adored his father, and two young daughters Jessica, and Jamie. Jimmy’s father who was a military man played a minor part in the movie but, was the reason for a major controversy in the main character’s life. The audience had a big part in the participative experience area. Since Jimmy plays a high school teacher, father, son, husband, and coach, the character is able to relate to all kind of people. Jimmy is just like everyone else in everyday life; struggling to make ends meet, loves baseball like any red blooded American, and loves his family. He relates to everyone because, everyone has either had or has been a teacher, father, son, wife, daughters, or a coach, do this makes it easier for the audience to feel like it is in the character’s shoes. In this movie the audience can escape and be at one with the character Jimmy Morris. The overall structure of the film was in chronological order. The film began with a legend of some nuns in 1923 who began the interest in baseball in a small town, Big Lake, Texas (this was to be the home of the main character later on in his life). Then the film switched to Jimmy Morris’ life by showing excerpts from his childhood. Then it jumped to the lead character’s life as an adult man (age 30 or so) dealing with everyday life in Big Lake, Texas. Finally the movie worked its way up to how Jimmy Morris got into the major leagues. The film image started out with just a dirt field with dust blowing all ov... ... middle of paper ... ...on a minor league (AA Southern League), this was a small climax of the movie, and it was great joy to see that he could succeed after being away from the sport so long. The film showed Jimmy moving up from a small professional team to bigger and better teams. He just kept improving and getting recognized by the right people. Eventually he got a call from the major league baseball team, StingRays, and was being drafted to the big leagues. He went to his first game at The Ball Park in Arlington. At Arlington is where the climax of the movie took place, it happened when he took his first step onto the mound to relieve the pitcher. Jimmy came in and saved the game by making three perfect pitches. This was the climax because he had finally reached his goal, a major league baseball player. The movie ended by a little written excerpt saying that he pitched two full seasons in the Major League’s, and now resides in Texas. This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.

It 's not always about how things look on the outside, but more about your inner self. More about getting those individuals to believe in themselves. The film helped me to see the value of building up self esteem. I know in math some of the kids that say they don’t like math just had a bad experience with it. Usually I’ll try and give them something simple just to start to let them feel a sense of accomplishment. Then I usually will continue to build from there. This film never gets old. It’s still very relatable today and a young audience would be able to see themselves in any of those characters. This film reminded me that kids are coming to class with many different experiences, emotional phases, as well as insecurities. I must remain cognizant of them along with continuing to be that positive role model they need. I would recommend this film to anyone that has kids they would like to keep encouraged as well the ones they believe are

Nonetheless, this movie taught me about endurance and that one can achieve their goals despite the challenges that they face in life. I learnt that as long as I set my mind to it and never give up, nothing can bring me down. While this movie is really meaningful and inspiring, the deepest message that I take away from it is family. It reminds me of how much my parents have gone through to provide to my needs. Similar to Gardner’s character, my parents don’t complain or give up on me. They endured our difficulties while convincing me that everything is

The movie starts out with a story told by Leigh Anne Tuohy. The story talks about how in football there was a huge shift in the way recruiters looked for left tackles. Leigh Anne Tuohy gave an example of when Lawrence Taylor in 1985, sacked Joe Theismann, quarterback for the Washington Redskins at the time, and broke Joe’s leg. This caused a huge momentum shift in the National Football League to find huge left guards to cover the “Blind Side”. The “Blind Side” refers to the left side of a right handed quarterbacks body. While in the pocket of the Offensive Line the quarterback’s body is facing toward the right side of the field so he cannot see the left side of the field. Being from the inner city Michael lost a lot of experience that other kids, who grew up in wealthy families, got compared to him. Sean Tuohy was a basketball coach who notices Michael watching the team during practice. He is intrigued

The protagonist of the film is Josie Geller, a career driven woman who has never had her first kiss. Her current job as a copy editor at the newspaper, the Chicago Sun-Times does not satisfy her as she aspires to to be a journalist. Unexpectedly, she is given an undercover job at a high school to help parents be more aware of what their children do at school. Josie's first day on the job immediately reflects what she was like in her first experience at high school - a nerd and socially awkward. During the film there is a subplot about her brother, Rob, who is the polar opposite of Josie, popular and everything she wanted to be in high school. His dream was to become a professional baseball player but when that failed he gave up and took a job at the tiki post. Therefore, this film meets audience expectations as these are typical characters of a romantic comedy.

Overall, this movie made me realize how important interpersonal communication is. If there were to be a sequel to this movie, I think that there would be a significant change in communication between everyone. Especially after the father is faced with the possibility of his son dying because of an asthma attack. There are many theories that can explain what causes the actions and behaviors in the movie. The one that best explains what is going on is the attribution theory because of the given circumstances and how the events that occurred caused a chain reaction that affected everyone in the family. It created a snowball effect of denial until finally the father decides that he must stand up and face reality. Interpersonal communication is and will always remainideal to the success in families whether they suffer from trauma or not.

Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
