Volunteering is about giving your time and skills, without pay, for the benefits of other, the local community and for yourself. For me, volunteering with youth is what I immensely enjoy. Over the past years I have participated in many activities that benefit today's youth. Including activities involving the Kent County Foster Children, the local elementary schools and most recently Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement, an organization whose purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy. Correspondingly the past two years I have spent two complete days in an elementary school classroom motivating and qualifying today’s youth on the global economy. Through Junior Achievement participating schools allow for volunteers to come into the classrooms and helping their students to better understand business and economics. Over the past two years I volunteered in the …show more content…
One consists of the idea that one needs to stay committed to commitment to the principles of market-based economics and entrepreneurship. I am able to pursue and display this because when I go to college I plan major accounting and possibly minor in international business, both in which are in relation to market-based economics and entrepreneurship. Another value is the notion that one is to respect the talents, creativity, perspectives, and backgrounds of all individuals. I am able to help seek and exhibit this concept because I am the one that is always open to new ideas and respects all ideas that others have to offer. This value goes with another one of their values, the value of the belief in the power of partnership and collaboration. When working in groups, one has to accept ideas and learn to negotiate. I help display the idea of the power of partnership because I enjoy the idea partaking in group work and conversing with others on our different
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
It was a shock. The pediatric psychiatrist diagnosed me with a novel maladaptive behavior syndrome known as attention deficit disorder (ADD). My condition has notably hindered my ability to concentrate, organize, and execute both in the classroom and within social spheres. However, I have tried to meet the challenges posed by this mysterious syndrome through a number of approaches. Although they have been arduous, I have improved my control over the consequences of this disorder.
I have known that I wanted to go into the field of Social Work since my first year of undergraduate studies at SUNY at Fredonia. I entered SUNY at Fredonia as a major in secondary education, with a concentration in English. It was during my first semester of my freshman year that I had taken an introductory course in psychology. I realized then that I wanted to work with people, but not in the capacity as a secondary education teacher, but in a career in mental health. My professor spoke with such enthusiasm about the subject of psychology and psychopathology and soon, I found myself intrigued with these subjects. I wanted to help individuals who needed the help, especially knowing the stigma mentally illness exists in society.
Having spent the last two years working as a volunteer in the social service field, I have come to realize that my passion lies in helping people, who are in a position of less advantaged. With a view to accomplish my ambition to become a social worker I am currently taking an access to a master degree of social work.
I want to join Peace Corps because I have always been drawn to humanitarianism. All my life, I wanted to visit new places, explore different cultures, and learn what life is like outside of the safety of the United States. I wanted to expand my knowledge of the world, and in turn, share that knowledge as well. I feel that my life will never be complete without serving others. I have so much compassion and love for people.
Specifically, volunteering brings in revenue from nonprofits and “free” work. In fact, in 2009 an estimated value of $169 billion dollars was contributed to America in volunteer participation (Corporation for National and Community Service). Volunteers bring an unexpected abundance of revenue that appears in unpaid work. In addition, it enhances communication within a society. Significantly, volunteering provides insight from first hand experiences for the community’s wants and needs and if these wants and needs are being met by volunteers communicating their volunteer experiences (Young). When there is better communication within a community it is easier to understand what the wants and needs are for a society to better function. Finally, it provides services in many different forms. For instance, in a local sense volunteers can benefit many sectors such as public works and transportation; public safety, health, and human services; parks and recreation; and support functions (Young). Like stated above, it is evident that there are many different types of volunteer jobs that can be done and anyone can help by using their personal strengths to better the community. Overall, there are many economic benefits that are brought to a community that essentially leads to a safer
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
Volunteering in your local community is great way to give back and set a positive example at the same time. Let’s take a look at some of the problems in our community that affect many people.
My passion for volunteering began at an early age as I watched my Mother and Father serve in many capacities in our community. I didn’t fully understand the concept of helping others until I myself was challenged to begin serving in my youth ministry. I was always willing to volunteer at school, or help my mother greet at our local church, but little did I know that making a difference in someone else’s life was more fulfilling than I could ever imagine. During a youth service our Pastor spoke on the impact one person can make in their community and nation, challenging each of us to find an area that we were passionate about and begin serving there. I had always enjoyed spending time with preschool children and felt compelled that is where I could make a difference and should start.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
My passion to become a social worker began when I was pursuing an undergraduate degree.
Volunteering allows a person to be more involved in their neighborhood events and it can help build and better relationships with others, it also helps build up resumes before it is too late to do
I’ve done a fair amount of volunteer work in my life. Volunteering instills a sense of giving back to the community; all of which benefited me through my academics and personal life. It’s amazing to see how my contribution has made a difference in the community. I’ve done most of my volunteering dealing with children. I had volunteered as a volleyball coach, a leader for a camp, and a tutor.
Many students are barely even passing the regular school curriculum, and opponents believe that adding the additional load of mandatory service hours will discourage teens from even wanting to graduate. Also, mandatory service is usually assigned by a court as punishment to delinquents. “In a small number of cases, community service is required by the court system as restitution for delinquent offenses” (Planty and Bozick, 2006). Contrary to this opposing view, helping others is the best feeling that one could ever have. What is a volunteer program?
