In Tequila Worm the girl Sophia got bullied for eating tacos for lunch every day at school she would be called “taco head” burning lunch so she ate her tacos fast and went outside and played on the playground. In March, when John Lewis started the sit-ins for restaurants and sitting places, only white people could sit. She has tacos for lunch every day. She wishes she was a normal kid with a sandwich, so people don't make fun of her. Every day she eats her tacos fast, so no one sees her. After she eats them, she goes to the playground for recess. At first, Sophia is eating her tacos as usual then a girl comes up to her and says “what's in the bag” Sophia shows the girl then when the girl sees the taco she starts saying “Taco head” loudly so everyone can hear her Then there is a crowd. The P.E teacher sees this then breaks it up she says “Sofia, don’t pay attention to them. They’re just being mean and silly.” (Canales Excerpt P 12). Therefore, Sophia sat with the P.E. teacher and tried a sandwich. All the kids wanted to sit with the PE teacher, but she saved the seat for her. So then all the Mexican-American kids started to show themselves and were not afraid. Consequently, everyone started to show they were not scared of what would happen because they knew someone was there for them. As a result, Sophia and other Mexican-Americans live their lives happily. On the other hand, if the P.E teacher did nothing, this would keep happening.
