Vigilante Justice is it good or bad? The book And Then There Were None written by the infamous Agatha Christie, Key Point is the use of vigilante justice. Vigilante justice can be fine if used the right way. There are many circumstances where vigilante justice has been used in the right way. If the cause for this justice has been overlooked by the justice department, and has the potential to cause damage that can be catastrophic to society, vigilante justice should be used. Vigilante Justice is good when it comes to stopping crimes or people that the law can’t stop. In the article written by Seth Mydans a writer for the New York times states that “The police accepted his assertion that the men had threatened him with a screwdriver and tried …show more content…
Mr. Kent, neighbor of the crack house in question, stated that ''Nobody could sit out on the front porch anymore. The kids couldn't play outside. The police said to wait till something bad happened. Well, we couldn't do that.'' (Wilkerson 1) Mr. Kent took matters into his own hands once the police decided they would only take action once something bad has happened. It was right that he decided that if that house no longer stood the people who distributed the drug would be forced to leave. This act of vigilante justice ended up working because the dealers soon decided they would leave the area. A quote that also proves that people will crack if under pressure is “That's peace – real peace. To come to the end – not to have to go on … Yes, peace …”(Christie ). Macarthur finally came to terms to what he did wrong and decided that he was at peace with the world. Even though some people may say that the police should be able to deal with situations like these sometimes they don’t want to or can’t. A good example even comes from Mr. kent when he states that “The police said to wait till something bad happened. Well, we couldn't do that,'' (Wilkerson 1). The police sometimes don’t have a legal to act but if the people causing trouble are scaring families somebody should be taking care of
In the Lexington, Kentucky a drug operation occurred at an apartment complex. Police officers of Lexington, Kentucky followed a suspected drug dealer into an apartment complex. The officers smelled marijuana outside the door of one of the apartments, as they knocked loudly the officers announced their presence. There were noises coming from the inside of the apartment; the officers believed that the noises were as the sound of destroying evidence. The officers stated that they were about to enter the apartment and kicked the apartment door in in order to save the save any evidence from being destroyed. Once the officer enters the apartment; there the respondent and others were found. The officers took the respondent and the other individuals that were in the apartment into custody. The King and the
In conclusion, it is known that the system operates from cradle to the grave. Each of these individuals all have the same mindset of “if nobody cares why should I?” Beecher Terrace is a high crime-rate neighborhood, where all the individuals either lived or grew up in. Thus, each person in this documentary can name at least five people that have been arrested, mainly immediate family members. They all have three main things in common which are they lived in Beecher Terrace, they have more than six charges, and they have some type of mental issue that needs to be resolved to better
However, after reading the article the author noted that police are mandated to enforce civilian law and order, investigate crimes, and strictly follow legal procedures even when in pursuit of chronic and dangerous criminals (Kagoro, 2014). Ideally, it has been argued, there should be strict dividing lines between the police and the military; the former for domestic purposes with the latter protecting citizens from external threats (Kagoro, 2014). In his article on the anti-militarization of the police in the United States, Kurt Andrew Schlichter aptly put it that the military is designed, organized, and equipped to execute rapid, violent and efficient obliteration of the “enemy”-whoever the enemy may be ( Kagoro, 2014). However, the law enforcement is usually modeled after the military and in fact there a large number of police officers who are former military personnel. This was a new criticism of police that was unfamiliar to me in the study of criminal justice but, I found it to be a valid point. The idea of changing the focus of policing to be less of a battlefield and more of a community may be a compelling approach to make interaction with citizens less
There were many accounts of what happened in Prineville on that fateful day in 1882, in Reign of the vigilantes, William Thompson told a very different account of the events of vigilantism that occurred on March 15, 1882 Thompson bent the truth to protect himself.
Throughout the tale of time, thoughts of revenge have corrupted even the most innocent of minds. In Andre Dubus’ “Killings”, Matt Fowler is conflicted by two opposing forces: his own desire and his wife’s demand for the death of their son’s murderer. Through her manipulative words and her emotional meltdowns, Matt Fowler ultimately succumbs to his wife’s request and commits the gruesome act, which causes the audience to reevaluate the appropriateness and cost of vigilante justice.
Throughout There Are No Children Here, a continuous, powerful tension always lurks in the background. The gangs that are rampant in the housing projects of Chicago cause this tension. In the Henry Horner Homes, according to Kotlowitz, one person is beaten, shot, or stabbed due to gangs every three days. In one week during the author's study of the projects, police confiscated 22 guns and 330 grams of cocaine in Horner alone (Kotlowitz 32).
In the story of Angela Whitiker’s Climb by Isabel Wilkerson, from the book Class Matters, she talks about the bullet riddled “housing building” that is run by drug gangs. If kids or peo...
“The House I Live” by Eugene Jarecki is a documentary that sheds a light on America’s ongoing battle with drug abuse by encompassing multiple viewpoints from all walks of life ranging from both sides of the law and everything in between: the police officers, politicians, drug dealers, inmates, grieving parents, authors and journalists about how the war of drugs affect their lives and the lives of others. The overall purpose of the documentary was to show the war on drugs and how it has failed in the United States.
Police officers are like guardian angels watching over the good people of the land, protecting them from danger.
It's up to the police to make a decision right on the street to act.
What do you think when you see a police car? Do you feel safer knowing there 's a police officer if anything happens or do you get nervous and think you might get pulled over. The majority of people get nervous when they see a police car. With all the cases in which police use excessive force to arrest or kill a suspect people are more worried and the armored vehicles don 't help. The whole world watched in the early days of the Ferguson protests the huge police response. Armored vehicles, gas masks, assault rifles all worn with a military like uniform, this is the police that exists today. Do small police departments like Fergusons really need mine resistant armored vehicles or drones? I don 't think they do and that 's why I think that the
In the documentary, “High in Houston” better known as the ‘Bloody Nickel’, the “5th Ward” neighborhood in Houston, TX is full of drugs, gangs, and cartels. I could not understand how every day and night man and woman were out either prostituting for either food, but mainly money for drugs to get high. Some of the most popular drugs in this area that were discussed and that were discussed that most dealers sell and most people want to buy is prescription cough medicine “lean” which is codeine and crack cocaine. The drug dealers in this documentary talked about how they sell their items, how they run the streets in the 5th ward and do not mind killing someone to prove that to a person who challenges them. I am sad that right here in Texas, not even 40 miles outside of Prairie View, TX where I attend school class at, there are young man and woman who would whether sell drugs into our communities and kill our black community and keep us down. The question is when will we ever rise above the stereotype? Women day and night are
We have already established that for the police to be involved, the crime has to be committed. Once the crime is committed, someone has to report about the crime being committed and when the report has been made, the police begin its job and starts investigating that report to determine if a crime have been committed. O...
