There were many accounts of what happened in Prineville on that fateful day in 1882, in Reign of the vigilantes, William Thompson told a very different account of the events of vigilantism that occurred on March 15, 1882 Thompson bent the truth to protect himself.
Thompson said the land dispute was a “trivial matter at most” (Becman) according to Reign of the Vigilantes, most people would disagree with that statement and would not consider someone building a fence across their yard or property as a trivial matter. In Reign of the Vigilantes, Thompson referred to Langdon and Harrison as murderers, without them ever being questioned or appearing in a court room. As told in the news article Crook County’s Reign of Terror, Mr. Langdon warned Mr. Crook and Mr. Jory to desist or bring their guns, the two men did indeed return with their guns that afternoon, when Langdon confronted Mr. Crook and Mr. Jory the two men attempted to draw their weapons, Langdon then shot them. This would make the killings of both Crook and Jory as a case of self defense, as surly Mr. Langdon would have been shot himself had he not been the faster gun.
It was apparent that Thompson was the one giving the orders, he claimed in Reign of the Vigilantes that “they met 75-80 men coming to help them”, (Beckman) and that he turned them back saying that “the murderers had escaped”. (Becman) Had this been true, Thompson would have welcomed the help locating and apprehending the men. Thompson also told a man named Long in his party, to shoot and kill young Mr. Langdon if he tried to escape. Obviously Thompson was in charge of the men, and had no fears of prosecution. The class and regional tension separated African-American leaders of that period. A black prosecutor named Scipio Africanis Jones, tried to set free the twelve black men’s who were imprisoned. After the days of the massacres, a self-proclaimed group of foremost white citizens allotted a report. The committee demanded that Robert Hill, the union organizer, was an external protestor who had deceived native blacks into organizing an insurgency. The Negros were told to stay out of Elaine, by the wicked white men and deceitful leaders of their own race who were abusing them for their personal achievements. The black farmers that were muddled in the original firing had been consulting to work out the facts that involved the massacre of white ranchers and the eliminating the white’s possessions. Thus, the firing and the fatal riots that trailed were esteemed involvements that saved the lives of numerous white citizens, although at the outlay of many black
At the start of the 20th century, journalists had begun to play an important role in exposing wrongdoings within politics and society. These journalists, often called muckrakers, used their journalism to focus on political flaws and corruption in city governments. Several popular publishers adopted this form of journalism, which became widely popular

They had a description of the suspect that did not match Bloodsworth but, they went after him as well. They also used eyewitness testimony that could have been contaminated.
The documentary "Valentine Road" connects with many ideas and topics that have been discussed in various theories, lectures, and book readings. This terrifying documentary shows the difficult lives of Brandon McInerney and Lawrence King. An unfortunate incident took place in Oxnard, where King has been shot and killed by McInerney. This entire incident was surrounded in controversy especially because of the fact that King was homosexual. There are quite a few ideas and topics of victimization that can be applied to both individuals, but some applicable ideas and concepts consist of identifying who the victims are and what consequences they suffered and also why, bullying, and criminological theories.
...t this time. The fact that a long the way he was stopped by a dozen men on a bridge fully loaded with weapons and he was the only one not murdered in the car leads to suspicion. Harrison was a white man and this could be an answer to why he was not killed. If Harrison did not have anything to do with these murders then he would have been killed also due to the fact that he could have told police investigators evidence to the murder. Thirdly, if Harrison laid down $600 to get a black person out of jail, which was not accepted at this time in society, it could have led to the closing stages that Harrison would have spent money at any cost to see the African Americans dead. Although Harrison is deceased, the evidence that has been proven thus far concludes that he was the sole perpetrator and if he was still alive, he could answer questions that remain unanswered.
Warriors of God by James Reston Jr. is a non-fictional view of the third crusade. This particular crusade spanned from 1187-1192, containing many gruesome battles and a lot of intense moments between Islam and Christianity. Reston supplies the reader with a little background to the third Crusade when he talks about the first Crusades happening since 1095. Reston gives a fairly impartial view of this holy war. He discusses the battles, politics, and emotions of the Crusade as an outside party and if he takes any side at all it is with the Muslims. He often speaks badly of King Richard and he speaks well of Saladin, the sultan. He portrays Richard as a greedy, anti-Semite, who is intolerable of other religions, while he shows Saladin as tolerant to the Jews, reasonable, and an overall good leader. Reston wrote this book mostly to inform readers about the third Crusade but also to add some of his own insights. His thesis was a little unclear but he stated that the Crusades were the most violent event in history all the way up to Hitler’s rein. Reston did a good job in proving this when he told of battles and then analyzed them. He told of a time when King Richard had twenty thousand Muslims executed and when Saladin had Reginald of Chatillon beheaded along with many other Christian prisoners.
With the help of new recruits, Charlie and Bob Ford, Jesse planned one more robbery. At the time the reward offered was so large that one of the members would soon turn traitor. On April 3, 1882 while planning a robbery in the kitchen table, Jesse stood up, removed his gun holster, and noticed that a hanging portrait was crooked. As he attempted to fix it with his back towards him, Bob Ford shot Jesse in the back of the head. The community was devastated at the cruelty and cowardly manner of capturing Jesse James: The Notorious Outlaw. There was so much anguish against the Ford brothers that within two years Charlie, who was the sensitive of the brothers, killed himself. Bob Ford gets killed 10 years later, by a man who entered his saloon. Jesse James was avenged, but the ironic part of this piece of history is that Jesse James was responsible for many deaths.
It started when a white woman from Sumner said that she was assaulted by an African American. Her name was Frances Taylor. Fannie was 22 years old and her husband James Taylor was 30 years old in 1923. James was a millwright and he was working for Cummer and sons in Sumner. Fanny wasn’t the most social girl in the town barely anyone knew anything about her. People say that all she did was clean her floors with bleach to keep them stone white and take care of her two young children. On January 1, 1923 Fannies neighbor said that she heard screaming and grabbed a revolver to go investigate. She found Fanny on the ground beaten with marks all over her body. Fanny told the neighbor to go check on the baby because an African American had bust open her door and beaten her and that the African American was inside the house. Fanny original report said that the African American just beat her and didn’t rape her. But rumors started going all over the town and people believed he did rape her. Philomena Goins said that she saw John Bradley with Fanny and she said that they were together and that day they got into a fight and he beat her. Then when John Bradley left Fanny house he went to
Menace II Society, a film about a young Black man who has lived the “hustler” lifestyle and is struggling to leave it, is a perfect example of deviance as the main character, Caine Lawson, and the characters around him violate many of society’s norms. Throughout the film, the characters swear incessantly, carry around guns and drugs as most people would carry around cell phones, commit street crimes, especially burglary and mugging, on a regular basis, and beat and kill people unscrupulously. The following quote captures just how deviant Caine and the other characters in this film were, “[Caine] went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed robbery. It's funny like that in the hood sometimes. You never knew what was gonna happen, or when” (Albert Hughes). Why would Caine consider these crimes “funny”, or rather, so insignificant? What caused Caine to become so deviant? The answers to such questions were woven into the plot of the film and will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

From examining John F. Kennedy’s assassination, many people have come to the conclusion that there was a second party involved in the shooting of the President of the United States. The writers give great theories and facts leading people to believe that the Warren Report was false and later used to cover up the death of John Kennedy. With this great information out to the public it is obvious that the mob was involved with the planning assassination. After, all this evidence it only makes sense that the Warren Report is false, and that the mob was involved the whole time.
On March 25, 1931 the Southern Railroad's Chattanooga to Memphis freight with two dozen or so people, and it consisted of mainly men looking for a job. While on the train a stone throwing fight erupted between the black and white men on the train. Soon after the blacks succeeded in throwing all but one of the white men off the train, Orville Gilley was pulled back on after the train accelerated to a dangerous speed. After the whites were forced off the train they went to the nearest police station and reported that the black men on the train had assaulted them. The white youth lied because they were the men who had started the fight in the first place. When the train pulled into the train station the police captured nine of the black men on a flat back truck and took them to jail in Scottsboro.
In mid- August 1908, in Springfield Illinois there was a report that a white woman had been assaulted in her home by a black man, shortly afterward, a second report came in stating there was an assault on another white woman by a black man. These incidents coming within hours of each other inflamed a large white mob. The Springfield police arrested Joe James for the first offence, and George Richardson for the second, meanwhile the gathering mob met at the county courthouse ready to lynch the two men in custody. Not able to get to the men the sheriff had in custody, the mob turn their attention on two other black men in the area. Scott Burton and William Donegan where taken by the angry mob and were quickly lynched. This angry mob violence spread throughout the community and the city lim...
Officially, a militia is part of the organized armed forces of a country that is called upon only in an emergency. There have been paramilitary groups with revolutionary ideas throughout America’s history, but today’s militia movement is a new more organized and violent presence (Meyers). Today the militia are unofficial citizens’ armies organized by private individuals, usually with antigovernment, far right agendas. They rationalize that the American people need armed force to help defend themselves against an increasingly oppressive government that is becoming part of a global conspiracy called the “New World Order” (Sonder, 2000). These armed groups call themselves militias; to both imply the image of the Minuteman of the Revolution and to try to claim legitimacy by asserting that these paramilitary groups were the “unorganized militia” of federal and state law. The causes for the militia movement are many, but most center around a fear of gun confiscation and the role such confiscation would play in their various one-world conspiracy theories.
This essay will contain the ways policing modern society changed throughout the years, and it will show the differences between problem-oriented policing and community policing. It will also show how communities felt safer.
