The history of Vermont is quite interesting. Native Americans were already living there for about ten thousand years, who were actually from the Abenaki tribe. During, this time Vermont was not a state and there was not even any name for it. Later, first immigrant people, French Colonists, came to Vermont travelled from south from Canada and then came to Vermont. The name of this state appeared after French Colonists came in Vermont. The name of Vermont is divided in to two factors: Ver, means green in French and mount, came from Mountain (Vermont History).
Later in the seventeenth century, some French military people came for settlement in Vermont. In 1724, Massachusetts colonists came and established Fort Dummer and became permanent in Vermont. After the American Revolution many more people came from different states like Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and New York and settled in Vermont. In 1791, Vermont became 14th independent republican state in the United States. Vermont was growing nicely and by the end of the 19th and 20th century, railroad developed and new industries an...

A fundamental difference between the New England and Southern colonies was the motives of the founders. In 1606, the Virginia Company was formed, motivated primarily by the promise ...
Both the colony of Massachusetts and Virginia were founded by companies looking to make money off the New World, but the founding of Massachusetts was motivated more by religious goals and family dynamics. Erin Bonuso, author of “Colliding Cultures”,
The American Revolution started in the year 1765, when the Colonists rejected the Parliament of Great Britain to tax them without representation and ended in 1783 with the peace treaty with Britain; Treaty of Paris. But a lot of major events occurred in the colonies before the American Revolution could be over and these events would result in series of social, political, and intellectual transformation in American history. In his book, The Minutemen and Their World, Robert Gross’s describes the lives of people in Concord, Massachusetts before, during and, after the American Revolution, where much of these events took place and changed the way of life people lived in Concord. He goes through a very brief detailed aspects of colonial life in
The characteristics that came to shape the life in New England were the rocky, barren soil, the extreme climate and the rich waters. Although there was farming in New England , colonists looked to other means of survival. They looked to the rich waters for fishing and trade. The coastline of New England was very fertile with sealife. So, fishing became a way of commerce and trade providing a steady economy to New England. Because of the rocky soil and extreme climate, the colonists were forced to plant many different crops on a small pa...
... new places and discovered new ideas. Nevertheless, Gross also demonstrates that the economic problems (land scarcity) had already accelerated emigration from Concord—the younger generations were rejecting their patrimony and staking a claim westward or in other, less settled New England communities. Many of these wayward and prodigal sons returned to Concord and subsequently became successful businessmen. Thus, emigration and immigration in Concord was well-established before the American Revolution.
Manufacturing companies and jobs started to move and build their way up in Colorado. This opened even more opportunity for Colorado to grow. While people were moving to and visit...
Most of the first settlers in America came from England and considered themselves to be Englishmen. At first they relied on their mother country for money, supplies and protection. As the colony became larger and more populous, people gradually started feeling as if they were a separate nation. By the eve of the Revolution the patriotism has built up to such an extent, that the colonists believed America was self-sufficient enough to exist as independent unit from England.
During the 1600’s, people living in England wanted to make a better life for themselves so they left to explore a new land. Upon arrival, they formed colonies. Two of the three colonies formed were New England colony and the Southern colony. Though these people wanted to change their way of living from England, these colonies had different viewpoints on how they wanted to live their lives once they arrived in the new world. Things like climate, education and religion played a major part in their economic growth.
Between 1607 and 1733, Great Britain established thirteen colonies in the New World along the land’s eastern coast. England’s colonies included Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Though the colonies were classified as New England, middle or southern colonies, the colonists developed a unifying culture. With this new American culture, the colonists throughout the colonies began to think differently than their English cousins. Because colonial America displayed characteristics of a democratic society and, therefore, deviated from England’s monarchic ways, it was established as a democratic society.
Colorado is such a beautiful state. It brings in a lot of outsiders but not only for its beauty, but for its history as well. Travelers and tourists have been visiting Colorado since before the 19th century. However, during the 19th century, the development of Colorado boomed greatly because of its iconic people and the fact that so many travelers and tourists enjoyed seeing Colorado. The people contributed to making Colorado history more appealing to tourists so the state really emerged. Tourism has led Colorado to great lengths and still to this day, Colorado brings in many travelers and tourists.

Montana today is place that is still very similar that of a hundred years ago. Ranching and farming out east, mining still goes on in Butte, fishing is big along the western rivers, and now there is a new boom, with oil and natural gas throughout the state. As John Steinbeck said, “I’m in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection. But with Montana it is love. And it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it.”
The British colonies of North America took their beginnings in the early part of the sixteen hundreds. At that time Virginia and New England became the first regions to be settled by the English. It was the birth of America as a whole, but it also was the beginnings of two distinct ways of life. The colonies were founded on Independence, but from the start there were two completely different ideas of what that Independence was and what it would mean over time.
The 205-thousand-square-mile Appalachian Mountain range, which spans from Eastern Canada to northern Alabama, boasts North America’s oldest mountains (formed approximately 400 million years ago), the highest peak of the eastern United States (Mount Mitchell), industrial production opportunities and leisurely recreation. The range includes the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Great Smoky mountains (NCSU, n.d.). A range of recreational activities such as fishing in freshwater streams, camping, biking the Blue Ridge Parkway, skiing and hiking are available in the region. One popular hiking location is the 2,184-mile Appalachian Natural Scenic Trail, which is the longest walking trail in the eastern United States (United States. National Park Service, 2014). Its rich natural capital offers a plethora of resources, allowing production to range from small-scale agricultural establishments to larger industrial outputs of metal and timber. Approximately 80 percent of land has been used for the coal and logging industry since the 90’s (Little, 1995). Though the commercial utilization of the mountains has boosted the economy of Appalachian towns and cities, it has also degraded the range aesthetically and commercially.
Entering a new territory filled with countless opportunities and possibilities came with prices to pay and times of hardships for the new settlers. These pioneers from England came to realize that the grass was not always greener on the other side. The colonists in different areas along the east coast had different and similar ways of establishing life in this new and unfamiliar territory. Whether it were the ones that settled in New England or the ones that settled in Jamestown, Virginia, they all experienced obstacles that they were forced to overcome to create what is known today as the United States of America.
