A total vegetarian diet is a plant-based diet which provides many health benefits. There exists a great variety of food choices in a vegetarian diet, and people are often healthier without meat and dairy products in their diets (Foer 458). Indeed, a total vegetarian diet provides people with the most diet-derived health benefits.
Perhaps, the most widely accepted benefit of a total vegetarian diet is it promotes cardiovascular health. Cardiovascular disease is a heart disease caused by small raised areas on the inside of arteries (Physicians committee). Poor cardiovascular health leads to strokes and heart attacks. Currently, there are a lot of overweight people in the world. There are many different diets including the caveman, zen, magnetic, blood type, chicken soup, and three day hot dog diets. The biggest problem with these diets is that you shouldn 't stay on any of them for extended periods of time because they are generally unbalanced nutritionally (Roberson). A plant-based diet promotes weight management because it is loaded with lots of fiber, and vegetarians can eat large quantities of food without consuming large amounts of calories and fat. Fiber, which the body cannot break down, is part of plant-based foods such as grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beans. Fiber moves through the body undigested and helps remove cholesterol from the body which helps to improve weight management (Andrews). A vegetarian diet is full of natural and unprocessed foods which are higher in fiber. A traditional American diet is full of meat, dairy, and sugar which contain little or no fiber. Furthermore, people on a vegetarian diet can eat large quantities of food without consuming large amounts of calories and fat. Vegetarians consume large amounts of whole wheat, brown rice, and whole grain bread. Vegetarians tend to eat lower calorie dense foods which allows them to eat more food with fewer calories and more nutrients (Andrews). This helps to keep weight management under control. People on a traditional American diet tend to eat large amounts of processed food because processed foods are not filling. Lots of these processed foods are high in fat and calories and low in nutrients. This leads to people overeating because they are hungry. A total vegetarian diet provides a balanced approach to weight
This article details the benefits of a primarily vegetarian diet in primary prevention of heart disease.
Vanessa Ha and Russell de Souza published a study they did over the health benefits of vegetarianism in the Journal of the American Heart Association. They found that switching to a vegetarian diet can cause healthy weight loss, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, lower blood pressure. They also found that vegetarians eat lower amounts of total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol. If the United States’ population could start to lose weight, there would be a multitude of benefits. People would have more energy, they would sleep better, and the nation would get back on track. Weight loss can also help to reverse Type 2 Diabetes. Many people would be able to get off their medication and be able to function without being dependent on their medicine. They would also save time because they would not have to go to doctor’s appointments so often. If the American people were all vegetarians, the obesity problem in the United States could practically be eradicated, as Ha and Souza proved that the vegetarian diet could cause weight loss. People could live normal, healthy
In brief, a vegetarian diet is one that avoids all animal flesh. The vegetarian diet is rich in fruits and vegetables, legumes, nuts and other protein-rich foods. A vegetarian diet is also one laden with grains. There are four different categories of vegetarianism. These include the vegan, the lacto-vegetarian, the ovo-vegetarian and the lacto-ovo vegetarian. Vegans exclude all animal flesh, eggs, or dairy products including foods that contain these products. The vegan diet includes all beans, legumes, vegetables and fruits, grains and the infinite number of foods made by combining them. Many vegans do not eat processed foods using animal products, such as refined white sugar. A lacto-vegetarian diet allows dairy products such as milk, cheese, yogurt and butter while excluding animal flesh and eggs. In the ovo-vegetarian diet, eggs are included but not dairy products. The last type of vegetarian is a lacto-ovo vegetarian. The lacto-ovo vegetarian diet includes both eggs and dairy products. Finally, because vegetarian diets exclude animal flesh and restrict eggs and dairy, it can be difficult to ensu...

Many people have always wondered why people who had always ate meat their entire lives, decide to become vegetarians. People would presume that they wanted to lose weight, become healthier, or even just to try it out. Several would say non-vegetarianism is healthier and could help your body; however, vegetarians can be healthy too by what they eat and how much they eat of that particular food. Although I eat meat and I’m not a vegetarian, being a vegetarian can help your body in more ways than one and have many advantages in helping your body. Many become vegetarians to remove non-healthy things from their body, are animal lovers, or even religious or cultural reasons.
A vegan diet is based strictly around plant-based whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains and plant oils that are eaten consistently throughout the day. Those who disagree with a vegan diet claim that by eating only plant-based foods, the number of calories consumed will be far too low to sustain a healthy lifestyle with adequate protein. Objectors further their argument on the basis that animal based foods, such as meat, dairy and eggs, contain more calories and protein per serving, thus allowing the consumer to quickly meet their needs in a more efficient
Some people consider it “unhealthy” to lead a vegetarian diet, because they don’t think they would get all the necessary nutrients that are needed. But as long as a person supplements for meat, they can maintain a very healthy life! Tofo is a meat-replaced food that many vegetarians eat. They also consume a lot of beans which are an excellent source of protein. Dairy products produced in cruelty free facilities can also be purchased. To maintain a healthy vegetarian diets, supplements can also be found for iron, calcium, vitamin D and B12, and zinc.
The first benefit to being a vegetarian is health reasons. Recent research studies have shown that vegetarians have better health than people who eat meat. The risk of a disease is less likely when being a vegetarian. For example, vegetarians have a lower rate of gallstones, kidney stones, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and colon disease. Studies have also shown that not only does a vegetarian diet have a greater chance of preventing these diseases but becoming a vegetarian can sometimes even cure these diseases. In a study conducted by Dr. Ornish from the University of California, he found that a vegetarian diet is also good for unclogging arteries of patients with very serious heart disease. The American Medical Association announced, in 1961, that heart disease, which is the cause of over half of deaths in the United States, could be eliminated by a vegetarian diet. The AMA has also reported that a high saturated fat diet is a key component to high levels of the diagnosis of coronary heart disease. The reason for vegetarians less risk for heart disease ...
In conclusion, vegetarianism benefits many part of our life. A healthier body, a better environment, and more fair treatment of animals are all requites of becoming vegetarians. It is hard to change eating habits, but it is not impossible. There are many kinds of food that vegetarians can choose today. The taste of the non-meat food is not all bad and some of them maybe much better than imagination. It is not wise to deny being a vegetarian before trying to be. With more and more people adopting the vegetarian diet, the world will be a better place in the future: animals will be treated better; global warming will be alleviated; fewer people will be starving, and ultimately, people will be healthier and be living longer. Therefore, people should start action before it is too late.
Vegetarians tend to be healthier than those who consume meat. This is due to the prevalent unnatural chemicals used in the processing of meats, and eating these are unsuitable for the body. Meats already contain harmful amounts of cholesterol, and over-consumption of red meat can lead to early heart disease. Animals that are raised on farms for their meat are not treated well, and this mistreatment can lead to harm in the meat they are producing. Although one life choice cannot change one’s environmental
Let’s start with some good news first such as the health benefits of this adaptation. A diet consisting of mostly red meat has been known to lead to high rates in diabetes and heart disease and a simple diet change could help reduce the chance of diabetes by 50% and heart disease by up to 30% by a better-quality meat by raising livestock in better living conditions such as free range and grass fed meats. By eating a better-quality meat and ingesting less of it, it helps lead to a higher quality of life, weight loss, a cheaper grocery bill, and reducing your carbon footprint (Green). Ironically one of the main interests associated with the positive impact of switching to the weekday vegetarian is also one of its greatest downfalls for the same cause, health benefits. The largest con to this change is the lack of information and convenience associated with a vegetable based meal plan. Some of the most important nutrients that are easily found in the meats that most of us consume but don’t come by as easy with vegetables. Proteins are one of the core building blocks of the human body and usually aren’t present or in very low amounts when found in vegetables. Meats are also our primarily source of essential fats and oils that are crucial to the human diet. We also lose the vitamins generally involved in our meat
