"If a man empties his purse into his head, no man can take it away from him. An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” This quote by one of our founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, suggests that education has always been greatly valued in life. However, the escalating cost of higher education, among other reasons such as lack of motivation and financial aid, is causing many to question the value of continuing education beyond high school. Many wonder whether or not the time, money, and devotion will actually pay off in their futures. However, educating our American citizens is what will ensure the future success of our country as a whole. Continued education is nearly a necessity for individuals in this day and time. College education is a great tool for our self enhancement. It even exposes us to the values and cultures of other places and people. Subjects like history, anthropology, comparative religion, international politics, and humanities can make us much more accommodating and sympathetic to other cultures. This results in a better bond among international communities. By learning about others values, we could be able to contribute to sound political, business, or economic decisions. Math and science classes in college are also very beneficial by giving us basic skills to run the accounting of our life. Studying math can help us become good engineers, architects, or bankers. Studying science can lead us to being able to contribute to the advancement of technology and medicine. Not only is college important for bettering our society, but it is also important for bettering our own individual lives. There are many rewarding life benefits to attending college or a higher education program. Not only does it better an individual, but it also betters our nation as a whole. The youth of America is our legacy, our key to a successful future. Appropriate planning and education is the way to ensure that our country will continue to be prosperous.
