The articles concerning Uterus Transplantation are about woman who suffered from infertility and wanted to become impregnated. Surgeons in Swedish have successfully transplanted wombs donated from relatives into nine women and they will soon try to become pregnant. Several surgeons tried to conduct this procedure; however, all of them were not as successful as the surgeons in Swedish. The transplants began in September 2012 where the Swedish surgeons successfully transplanted wombs donated from relatives into nine women, who would try to become pregnant. In 2002, a uterus transplant in Saudi Arabia failed after blood clotting caused by organ’s circulation to fail. There were three previous case studies of womb transplantation; Surgeons in Saudi Arabia failed after blood clotting caused the organ’s circulation to fail. Surgeons in Turkey successfully impregnated a patient but she later miscarried. Swedish surgeons were most successful with this procedure. Swedish surgeons transplanted wombs donated from relatives into nine women, it was initially ten but one of the individuals could not proceed due to medical reasons. Majority of the host who were undergoing the procedure were in their 30s and the donors were no more than 60 years old. Unlike the surgeons in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, the doctors in Swedish took the uterus from live individuals. The transplant operations did not connect the women’s uteruses to their fallopian tubes, so they were unable to get pregnant naturally. Prior to conducting the operation, they removed some of their eggs to create embryos through in-virtro fertilization. The embryos were ten frozen and doctors then transferred them into the new wombs, allowing the women to carry their own biological children. When doing this surgical procedure, there are a lot of things that the surgeons should consider to have successful results. The age of host and age of donor is extremely important because you want to make sure that both individuals has went through puberty, matured, and at the age where …show more content…
The surgeons performed the first uterus transplant in the U.S. Unfortunately, the nation’s first uterus transplant failed. The operation lasted for nine hours as it was intended for women with uteruses that were damaged by a disease or born without one. One of their patients, Lindsey (26), experienced complications and the uterus was removed. I think the doctors in Swedish were successful because they got the uterus from live donors so the organ was functional but Cleveland doctors used deceased donors. The parents of the Europe newborn baby boy should try for another baby if they desire because the procedure is intended to produce 1 or 2 children; the only disadvantage is that it’s not guaranteed. The host mother cannot keep the uterus indefinitely because they have to stop taking the anti-rejection drugs, which can cause high blood pressure, swelling, diabetes, and it can also raise the risk of different types of cancer. When trying to conduct a surgical procedure, you have to gather a lot of information regarding what you are trying to do, get participants that is interested in what is taking place, have all of the necessary medications for the patients as well as the necessary equipment. Although this procedure is a good cause, I think it took so long to come to United States because of financial reasoning. My overall thoughts of uterus transplantation are that it is a good surgical procedure for woman who
A recent Court of Appeal ruling looked at preimplantation and IVF selection and how it was possibly going to be prohibited in the UK. Therefore, there are many factors that need to be discussed to whether or not it should be outlaw...
In 2001 scientist attempted to create a cloned human embryo, they had consulted all the necessary sources before getting the “ok” to begin “creating”. Then they had to find a female subject to donate eggs. To start the process of cloning they need to use a very fine needle and get the genetic information from a mature egg. Then they inject it into the nucleus of a donor cell. The female donors were asked to take psychological and physical tests to screen for diseases and what not.

For many years, infertile couples have had difficulty facing the reality that they can not have children. According to Nidus Information Services Incorporated, 6.2 million women in the United States are infertile. This problem leads to many options. A few options have been used for a long period of time: the couple could adopt a child or keep trying to have a child themselves. For those couples that want to have their own children, there are new options arising. In vetro fertilization is an option that gives couples the chance to have a doctor combine the male's sperm and the woman's eggs in a petri dish and implant them into the woman's womb after the artificial conception. This may result in multiple pregnancies - more than five in some cases. This does not only occur in implantation, however. Many times the patient's doctor will ask her to consider selective reduction: aborting a few fetuses to save the ones she can. In a case of multiple pregnancy, selective reduction should be considered an option.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help those who want children but struggle with infertility. The process consists of extracting eggs from a woman and collecting a man’s sperm sample then manually combining them in a lab dish. Once the embryo(s) are created they are transferred to a woman’s uterus. IVF is commonly used in woman who cannot conceive on their own due to different reasonings. “These include but are not limited to blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, woman with ovulation disorders, genetic disorders, woman who have had their fallopian tubes removed and unexplained infertility.” (American Pregnancy)
There are variables that could affect her choice. She could be poor, the child could have a birth defect, and so on. Giving her a right to decide whether she should abort the baby, it’s entirely her choice. What if the mother was raped or she got pregnant from incest? Would you traumatise this mother with the child of the rapist for 9 months, and would you allow an inbred child that will most likely have a disability and be put through literal hell?
Moreover, people opposed clinics destroying frozen embryos because it is the owner’s property. It is the owner’s (in this case donator) decision to determine what will happen to the embryos. There are people who have emotions towards their embryos. Especially for the donator that undergoes a lot of process creating those embryos. Based on an interview, a donator said that a lot of people put emotions and effort to produce the embryos. Embryos matter because they are special for the people who donated it and it is just a personal feeling. Because of this, they don’t accept their embryos disposed.
The use of fertility treatments in recent years has been accompanied by an increase in the number of multiple births seen annually. The twin birth rate has increased by 59% since 1980, and the triplet and higher order multiples birth rate is up 423% (Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter’s, 2004). There are two main forms of assisted reproductive therapy (ART) that are used currently. These are ovulation induction using fertility drugs alone and In vitro fertilization (IVF).
Dozens of couples in the United Kingdom are opting to have this done so they can give birth to free from disease
In America, one million teenagers get pregnant every year (National Abortion Federation, 2003). Of these pregnancies, 78% are unplanned because these teenagers start having sex at a very young age and are unaware of ways to prevent pregnancies. Thirty five percent of the pregnant teenagers chose to abort, as they fear that the consequences of the pregnancy might cause significant effects to their lives. The problems that come with teenage pregnancies include dropping out of school, receiving inadequate prenatal care, developing health problems, relying on public assistance to raise a child, and probably divorcing their partners. In most states, the law allows pregnant teenagers to take their babies for adoption without consulting their parents. The same laws allow the teenagers to have an abortion but require parental notification or consent before carrying out the procedure. These laws prove biased as they favor one resolution over the other, as they force some to bear babies they do not want by restricting their options.
An important scientific argument for IVF is that, by studying fertilization and early embryonic development outside the womb, scientists might learn more about how to prevent certain birth defects (1). This proves that IVF could actually make improvements in medical advances, especially in regards to prenatal care. This is just one example of how IVF can actually be beneficial to the community. The only times that babies are malformed or sick are when the mother puts more than one baby in her uterus. Multiple fetuses increase the chance of birth defects because they have a greater chance of preterm birth, which is associated with long-term health. The long-term illnesses are cerebral palsy, mental illness, and blindness (Reddy 1). With this in mind, having single births is very safe and those babies are still healthy today, just like Sarah and Maggie Marshall’s baby. Single births are also very highly recommended by medical personnel. Going back to the first test tube baby the Browns were expecting, and Steptoe (the doctor) thought that this baby would be a failure. When they did a cesarean on July 25, 1978, a beautiful baby girl was born at 5 pounds and 12 ounces. After the baby was born, the doctor recalled that
An obstetrician is one thing, and a gynecologist is another. The job is combined together, but the two branches can be worked separately. An obstetrician is a physician who focuses and is trained in the management of pregnancy, labor, and pueperium (the period following childbirth). A physician who has specialized and trained in the health of the female reproductive system is a gynecologist. The reason the jobs are combined is because they’re both all about women. Obstetricians and Gynecologists are physicians who provide general medical care to women. They equip medical care associated with pregnancy or childbirth, and they diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases, especially those affecting the female
Candidates for surrogacy are typically women who do not have a normally functioning uterus. A woman may have been diagnosed with a disease in which a pregnancy could have the potential to be life threatening (Leavitt, 2012). Also, a woman who has endured substantial permanent trauma to her reprod...
Therapeutic cloning is a relatively safe procedure. One reason therapeutic cloning is safe is because cells can be safely removed from embryos or adults. Cloning does not require a human embryo in some cases; cells can sometimes be removed from a live adult. Therapeutic cloning can be performed with cells that can be safely removed from adults or adolescents (Marzilli, pg.19) Embryos must sometimes be destroyed in this process, but the pros of treating diseases outweigh the cons (Murnaghan). Therapeutic cloning is also safe because, the organs made are from the same DNA as the patient; and there is a smaller risk of rejection from the body (Murnaghan). When a new organ is transplanted into the human body, heavy medication must be taken so that the body does not reject the donated tissues; this medication does not ensure that the organ won’t be rejected. “...
