Tyson Foods has entered millions of homes in America and is seen as a convenient, healthy form of sustenance. This company portrays itself as a family company, that provides safe food for a growing world population; however, it is in fact contaminated and filled with deceit, deception, and fraudulence. Tyson vocalizes that it has the consumer’s best interest in mind, meanwhile its sole interest is its revenue. It manufactures second-rate chicken byproducts and disguises it as a healthy choice for families. It has been discovered that Tyson distributes contaminated foods, injects its products with antibiotics, and abuses its livestock; thus, society needs to prohibit such rancid foods from entering its homes and being fed to its children, and to put an end to the corrupt company’s empirical power.
According to Tyson Foods, Tyson was established in the 1930s during the Great Depression by John W. Tyson. He began hand-delivering chicken to make a living. During World War II, the demands of poultry grew, and as a result Tyson Foods prospered by feeding off the immense wartime demands. The company was passed down from father to son, rustled its way to becoming a diverse food company, and reached prodigious growth in the 1980s. Tyson has maintained a familial lineage within its company and along with its historic ties and donations to hunger and disaster reliefs, has gained great support throughout the years. In recent years, it is not even necessary to turn on the news to hear about the bad reputation farming has been getting in recent years. What with the media focusing on things like drugs in animals and Pink Slime, or Lean Finely Textured Beef, it is a wonder that people are eating “non-organic” foods. However, many pro-farming organizations having been trying to fight back against these slanders. Still, the battle is not without heavy competition, and a good portion of it comes from Chipotle, a fast food Mexican restaurant that claims to only use completely organic ingredients in their food. Chipotle is constantly introducing advertisements claiming to have the natural ingredients while slandering the name of farmers everywhere. Perhaps the most well-known is “The Scarecrow,” a three minute ad that features some of the most haunting images Chipotle has ever featured. In the documentary, Food Inc., we get an inside look at the secrets and horrors of the food industry. The director, Robert Kenner, argues that most Americans have no idea where their food comes from or what happens to it before they put it in their bodies. To him, this is a major issue and a great danger to society as a whole. One of the conclusions of this documentary is that we should not blindly trust the food companies, and we should ultimately be more concerned with what we are eating and feeding to our children. Through his investigations, he hopes to lift the veil from the hidden world of food.
With regulations being set and laws enacted, the United States has seen a change for the better within the food industry and for the consumers overall. As a result, as much as a company is willing to cut on cost, without the consumers, every business in any industry will become bankrupt. The power is in the consumer and as long as consumers are educated properly and willing to speak up, there is a bright future ahead. Most of us do not think twice about the foods we pick up from the supermarket. Many Americans have a preconceived belief that the food being sold to us is safe, and withholds the highest standard of quality. Certainly, compared to many places in the world, this is true. But is the United States sincerely trying to carry out these standards, or have we begun to see a reverse in the health and safety of our food- and more explicitly in our meat? Jonathan Foer, author of “Eating Animals” argues for reform within the food industry- not only for the humane treatment of animals but moreover for our own health. Although Foer exposes the ills within the food industries in order to persuade readers to change their diets for the better, his “vegetarianism or die” assessment may be too extreme for most Americans. The true ills do not start with the meat, but with industrialized production of it through methods practiced by factory farming.

According to the article “Corrupt American Food Industry is too powerful”, the meat packing industry obtains far more power than what should be acquired. The people of America have the right to know what process the meat they are consuming goes through in order for it to sit in their refrigerators. The American people should have the right to know what kind of cruel difficulties come into play when it comes down to the meat industry. In the movie Food Inc., the Beef Products Inc. (BPI) cleanse with ammonia to kill E. coli in their hamburger meat filler. Food safety is an increasingly important public health issue. Governments all over the world are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. Food borne illnesses are diseases, usually either infectious or toxic in nature, caused by agents that enter the body through the ingestion of food. “In industrialized countries, the percentage of people suffering from food borne diseases each year has been reported to be up to 30%. In the United States of America, for example, around 76 million cases of food borne diseases, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths, are estimated to occur each year.” (Geneva 2)
