This is Margerit, our nutritionist/dietician, she will explain to you what your new diet should consist of, and I will give a basic understanding of what Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is. It is pretty simple actually and by time you will not be nervous about checking your blood sugar yourself. This small machine is called AccuChek. To check your sugar, you will always need an alcohol swab, the test strip, the small lancet and the machine itself. First off you would need to wipe off your finger with the alcohol swab and let the alcohol dry away because the alcohol might alter the blood sugar. Then you would need to open the test strip and the end with the black lines would need to be put in the machine, then the machine will automatically turn on. Now you would take the lancet and place it not at the tip but to the side of your finger and press at the top of the lancet so the needle inside it pokes through your skin. From there on wipe off the first drop of blood, and squeeze your finger for a tear drop amount of blood for collection. When you have a good amount of blood, bring the machine with the test strip inside it towards your finger and collect the blood in the small suctioning hole provided on the end of the test strip. Now the machine will show your blood sugar, which for someone with diabetes before a meal needs to be in the range of 70-130 mg/dL and 180mg/dL 1-2 hours from starting a
