Intro:
Hello my name is Nick and I am giving my speech on Alzheimer’s Disease. I was thinking of what I could do for a speech. Then I thought I wanted to inform people on something that little know about. Then it hit me. Alzheimer’s Disease it has affected my life so much and I know so much about it. So I am going to tell you how it has affected my life in more ways than one. Before I start I want you to imagine something. Look around you know everyone right? All these faces you see practically see everyday take all that you know about them and forget it. Can you do it? I can’t. So try to imagine now that it could happen to you years down the road and the disease gets so bad you cant remember your kids, your mother, or even your family. You probably are thinking right now, it will not happen to me. Well that is what my grandfather said about 6 years ago and now he cant even remember my name.
Body:
7 years ago my grandfather was diagnosed with this disease. Back then he didn’t believe it but these days he can’t remember what he did 10 minutes ago. It all started when he would constantly forget were he would park his car or were he left his keys. At that point you don’t really think that is Alzheimer’s Disease at work. That is what the Doctors call Questionable 0.5.
From there it only got worse. He would leave stuff on the stove and just flat out forget that he was cooking anything at all. He would often forget were his own kids lived. It got so bad that we had to take his Drivers licenses away from him. This is called Moderate Stage 2.
Now my Grandfather is at the last stage called severe stage 3 the worse stage of them all. He does not remember anything at all. You may think that how could you possibly forget everything? Well you can’t but you when you are diagnosed with this fatal disease you either go one way or the other you will lose your short term or you will lose your long term. More often you will lose your short term and work you way back into the past forgetting more and more as the days pass.
Can you imagine looking into some ones eyes that used to comfort you and then they look at you with sincerity and ask you “what is your name?

Thank you to today’s technology hearing aids work with digital technology and they are now equipped with strong computer chips. A hearing aid has a couple different parts...Those parts are the earmold, ear hook, microphone,speaker, amplifier, and the battery. The hearing aid receives the sound through the microphone, which transforms the sound waves to electric signals and then sends them to the amplifier and then the amplifier increases the power of the signals and it then sends them to the speaker so the person could hear it.

Today I’d like to discuss traumatic brain injury also referred to as TBI. I chose this topic because traumatic brain injury is a serious and complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities. Traumatic brain injury effects people of all ages and is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. A traumatic brain injury can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head that disrupts normal functions of the brain Also, traumatic brain injury can cause physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral affects.
Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia which is a brain disorder that impairs mental functioning. Dementia attacks the part of the brain which controls memory, language, and thought. It makes everyday tasks like remembering to brushing your teeth, or to pay your bills next to impossible to do, which is why so many people who are diagnosed with this disease are in complete care. This disease has different phases, the first being slight forgetfulness and then the persons emotions may heighten as well as language impairment, violent outbursts, loss of bladder control and from there it keeps getting worse until complete dysfunction of the brain occurs and eventually death, which most of the time is the result of infection.
Alzheimer's disease is a neurological disorder which kills the brain cells, causing memory loss and cognitive decline. This leads to severe psychological impairments which changes how people think, behave and other complications such as paranoia, disorientation and unprovoked aggression. These psychological impairments reduce people’s functional ability and therefore reduce their quality of life.

Alzheimer’s disease, named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, is a disease that is on the rise in America and the rest of the world. People should learn as much as they want about this disease, because as you age, your chances of becoming an Alzheimer’s Disease, or AD, patient increases. It is estimated that approximately 3 percent of Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have the illness, and more than half of all people over age 85 have the ailment.
The horrible feeling of forgetting a coworker’s or an acquaintance’s name may be one of the most frustrating things a person can experience. This is a fact that many patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s face on a reoccurring basis. Loss of memory is a common part of the aging process and is sometimes referred to as dementia. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and is not reversible in this day and age. In fact, 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases are Alzheimer’s and in 2015 more than 5.1 million cases age 65 or older were reported (Alzheimer’s Association, 2016). The most startling statistic is that by 2050, 14 million Americans and 81 million worldwide cases are expected (Wierenga & Bondi, 2011). While dementia is a part of Alzheimer’s it also affects an afflicted patient ability to perform day to day tasks, increased mood swings, and in the later stages, the ability to even walk or care for themselves. Have you ever had the feeling when you can’t remember a specific thing and it drives you insane? Well try living with Dementia. Dementia is not a disease; it is a group of symptoms caused by another disease, which produces a progressive loss of cognitive functioning (Psychology Today). People often believe that because of old age, a person may have Dementia, but this is a false accusation. In old age you may forget a few things here and there, but it is only when the symptoms affect the person’s daily life that it can be called Dementia.

Alzheimer’s Disease is formed in the brain but yet, has no known cure or treatment. Alzheimer’s Disease has many symptoms. Memory is the biggest symptom along with mood swings and having a hard time with keeping a conversation. A patient with Alzheimer’s goes through 7 stages; The first stage, which is misplacing things or forgetting what something is used for, second stage, they start losing more of their memory and they begin to forget where they are or what they are doing, the third, fourth and fifth begin to mentally decline and need someone to take care of them and worsen over time.The sixth stage they begin to have an even more difficult time going to the bathroom and cleaning themselves or using electronic devices such as phones or televisions. The final stage, at which the long goodbye comes to an end, they now are mentally and physically gone. Some doctors prescribe medication to the patients to help deal with some of the symptoms.

Dementia which is not a single disease is actually a broader term used for the grouping of diseases that all have common symptoms. [3] It is characterized by the worsening of basic functions to a point where it reduces a person’s abilities to perform everyday activities, such as recalling events or speaking. People diagnosed with dementia may also become unaware of where they are or get lost and confused with familiar places such as their own home. Although this is typical with the ageing process dementia significantly worsens these conditions.
