Twin Sisters Crime: Guilty vs. Not Guilty
Tasmiyah Whitehead, twenty year old of Rockdale County, Georgia who is not guilty has been , pleaded guilty to manslaughter for lying to the police about being within possession of a knife in commission of a crime. “Tasmiyah and her twin sister Jasmiyah Whitehead, were both 16 years old when the police said the teens got into a brutal brawl in the kitchen with their 34-year-old mother, Jarmecca Whitehead. The incident occurred before school on January 13, 2010. Their mother was beaten, bitten, and stabbed repeatedly. The police discovered that their mother’s jugular vein, lung, and neck was plunged with a knife from the back, which caused a fatal severing of the mother’s spinal cord. According to WSB-TV, the twins stayed with their grandmother due to violence and extreme strife characterized the environment they were living in (dailynews.com)”.

holding a hard pot over her head threatening to hit her with it. Out of self-defense, Tasmiyah retaliated to protect herself. She did not have time to think about what was going on because she was trying to get away from the violent behaviour. For this reason, Tasmiyah should not have to serve life in prison for trying to protect herself from the brutality. The twin Jasmiyah was actually the one planning to kill her mother. Jasmiyah played an influential partin Tasmiyah telling lies to the policemen to try and get out of trouble. Tasmiyah, acting out on her twin sister’s wishes to kill their mother cost her whole life in prison. According to the Daily News, Tasmiyah was usually the silent one when violent outrages occurred with their mother. In contrast to Jasmiyah, who would always talk back or try to fight with her mother when she got in trouble for her disobedient ways (ucanews.com). Unfortunately, they both played a part in this crime, but the second reason why she isn’t guilty in this crime alone is because Jasmiyah told her twin sister to leave her mother at home dead, and to go to school like nothing ever happened. Jasmiyah stated, “Let’s just go to school it’ll be okay because what we did was not wrong.” This action alone is criminal because she witnessed her mother being killed by her sister Tasmiyah, but did nothing to try and help her mother. Tasmiyah’s conscious must have cautioned her, because she flagged down the police sheriff saying that they found their mother dead. She tried to get help for her mother, but did not tell the truth about how her mother was hurt. Jasmiyah didn’t feel any type of sympathy for her mother and did not care to tell the truth in what happened to their mother. Initially, Tasmiyah wanted to stop the violence between her sister and her mother, but the act sped out of control before she realized it. Jasmiyah had absolutely no remorse for her mother, which proved her contribution to the crime (ajc..com). One more reason Tasmiyah is not guilty alone is because she loved her mother more than her twin sister.
Tasmiyah wanted a better relationship with her mother, and felt taunted by the brutal crime that had taken place. Her sister, Jasmiyah, was the one who put the thought in her head to kill their mother. Jasmiyah stated, “Let’s kill our mother.” This made Jasmiyah an active participant in the killing of their mother. Jasmiyah appeared to be self-absorbent, and only cared about what was important to her. She did not think about the fact that her sister would be placed in jail. She also played a part in the killing of her mother, by cutting her in the jugular vein, lung, and neck. Jasmiyah is also responsible for the severing of their mother’s spinal cord. Little did Tasmiyah know that she would be serving life in prison for listening to her twin sister in the killing of their mother
(mulimess.com). Tasmiyah Whitehead is now facing years in prison for what she believes is a misunderstanding. The act was very harsh, but could have been easily resolved with communication. Tasmiyah also could have went to an older adult who may could have been of assistance in helping her family. If all else failed, it would have been beneficial for Tasmiyah to call the police to help with the violence she and sister faced at home. Now she is spending life in prison for allowing her sister to convince her to harm her mother. This is an example of a crime that happens a lot in the world, which is why it is important for people to be careful who they let play an influential part in their lives. Many people have role models and family members that play a significant part in their lives, but it should not be to the extent of allowing influence to cause harm to self or to other people. Role models and family members are people to look up to and learn vital information from. Many do not understand how influential they can be towards others, which is why it is important to try and do what is right. Jasmiyah, not understanding her influence on her twin sister, contributed to their mother’s death, and her sister being placed in jail for life. Work cited Marcus K. Anna and Gracie Sharpe were killed in a calculated double murder, committed by John Sharpe on the 23rd and 27th of March, 2004 [AAP, 2005]. After reportedly arguing with his pregnant wife Anna, Sharpe fired two spears into her head, instantly killing her while she was asleep. He then contemplated killing his 19 month old daughter, Gracie, for 30 minutes before shooting her in the head with the same spear gun he had used to murder Anna. Gracie survived this initial attack, however, as she reportedly ‘screamed’ in pain [Healey, 2004]. Thus, in order to silence her distress, Sharpe retrieved the two spears from Anna’s head and then fired them into Gracie’s head as well, before dismembering her body with a chainsaw and dumping it into a landfill [Hadfield, 2014]. He later returned to exhume Anna’s body where he mutilated her corpse, scattering her limbs at the same place where Sharpe had left Gracie. While these murders were explicitly “singular” in brutality it was Sharpe’s attempt to conceal the crime by playing the victim, which requires closer, criminological attention [Hadfield, 2014].
though her murder on the 6th of August was not as brutal as the ones
Carcasses attract scavengers. The Guilty Party by O. Henry showcases the untimely death of a girl of twelve, Liz. Above Chrystie Street on the east side, a strange bird stalks the children of the playground. Although people say it’s a stork, locals call it a vulture. In this case, Liz is the carcass that the vulture sets its eyes on.
How would a society mature if it did not advance alongside technology? This is one of the questions impressed upon me while reading an excerpt from American poet and author Robert Bly’s book The Sibling Society. Bly defines a sibling society as a society that is filled with half-mature adults filling the void left by improper role models. They use internet and electronic entertainment as a substitution for the values and convictions that would have been imparted in them by an authoritative figure. Although we have an alarming amount of immature adults, we are not becoming a sibling society due to technology. With the use of technology, recent generations are now growing up with an awareness of the issues in the world around them, helping them
One flaw of the insanity plea is how the victims and their families are affected. For example on March 21, 2010, Kathy Powell, the mother of 21 year old Taylor Powell, who was brutally murdered by Jarrod Wyatt outside Klamath, Oregon, said the suspect's recent insanity plea was a complete lie. Mrs. Powell said she knows little about what happened that night, but voiced frustration about the defense's efforts to suggest her son somehow instigated the fight that led to his death. Wyatt, age 26, was being charged with murder, aggravated mayhem, and torture. He pleaded a dual plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity.
Ever wondered if there is a serial killer in your community? The characteristics of a serial killer may shock you or be surprisingly familiar to some of you. It is important for society to get informed about the various types of serial killers that are out there. It is essential for families to educate their children about strangers, to be careful with everyone they encounter on the streets, store, and even in their neighborhoods. A serial killer is defined as a person who murders three or more people in at least three separate events, with a "cooling-off period" between the kills. The big question is, what makes a person do these atrocious killings? We will analyze personal histories, categorized serial killers,
The world will always be full of crime, thus it is necessary for scientist to grow along with the gruesome and increasing amount of violations. Due to this it sparked scientist to develop crime theories in which emerged to explain why crime is caused by individuals. Some of the few theories that have advanced over the past century and provided many answers to why crimes are committed are biological theories, psychological theories and learning theories. These theories provide an insight to its first use and change in order to provide answers.
A crime is an act that breaks a law that relates to how to behave in society. The harm caused by the act is seen to be against society as a whole, not just a specific person. More specifically, a crime is an act (something you do) or omission (something you don’t do) that is against the law and punishable upon conviction. Crime includes criminal code offences against a person or property, drug offences, and so much more. Why do people commit crimes? Why do women commit crimes? Is a woman capable of committing a crime, and what causes her to do so? Many people believe that women would never commit crimes because of the common stereotypes of them being trustworthy, nurturing, and compassionate people. They place these stereotypes on women because they believe that women are not capable of committing crimes to the point where they would have to face prison. Although these stereotypes are assured to be true, these people do not realize that women crime rates have been increasing tremendously overtime, especially in the 1980's. Women/female offenders have had the fastest growing segment over the last 40 years, but are still much smaller than men. It has been proven that out of 1.5 million prisoners incarcerated in the nation, only 54 out of 100,000 of those people are women. According to Judge Thomas Mostowy, 14% of women crimes are violent, 10% are murders, 60% are against family members, and 20% of the violent female offenders are juveniles who have committed other crimes but notably majority of them are non-violent.
We are all affected by crime, whether we are a direct victim, a family member or a friend of a victim. It can interfere with your daily life, your personal sense of safety and your ability to trust others.
Studies show that sibling relations last longer than any other relationships. Through this period of time bonds are growing stronger than others, which is why Marry Cary, current college student, relationship with her sister made the biggest impact on her life.
My brothers and sister are the best motivation to me. It is not every day that we get along but when we do then it is a good day. Every day they make me want do better, not only for myself but for my mom and them also. They encourage me to do better now so that my future is bright later on. Family is always the best to have on your team especially for their support because they genuinely mean it and you know that it is coming from their heart. I know I can count on all my brothers and sister to be there for me when no one else is because they are family. I hate that they are growing every day and getting older to experience the real life. I hope even later on they will all still support me and we will not drift apart like I know
