Nowadays every student has many way to go to tutoring. Tutoring in the writing center has many choices. The choices that tutor make in regard to these and other questions will shape the form and outcome of the tutoring session. This tutoring session helps students become self-determining through questioning, because the tutor should help students develop self – confidence and improve study skills. Before I start this class, my thinking was that the people who tutor someone or any subject. They usually sit down together and read the paper or kind of essay and tell them to which grammar mistake was and what materials to add and take out any kind of essay or assignment which make sense to help or improving in our essay. As a tutor I believe a writing center will be the best resource for students who need help with their writing. I have observed one main impression about students coming into the Writing Center: all of them are there to get help with their writing. It is an obvious statement but it provides a way of looking at student mentality before they sit down for a tutorial. Tutoring has been a positive experience for me, it has taught me to be less selfish with my time. I realize that this is what tutoring is all about - the small sacrifice of my time in order to help someone else. I took the time to help the student in my free time. Since I knew how good it felt to help others, tutoring has encouraged me to branch out to other forms of volunteering. I love meeting new student at the writing center who is truly excited to learn and write better. The tutor and student both are helping them communicate those ideas more clearly in their writing is tremendously rewarding--and I also learn a lot about a range of topics. Every time I work with a student in the Writing Center I learn something. Sometimes, I have realizations about my own writing, and sometimes the topic of a student's paper gives me ideas of my own. The exposure to so many different subjects because writer come from across all disciplines--is not only interesting, but helps round out my general knowledge. They can compete to see who is “best” they can work independently toward a goal without paying attention to other student, or they can work helpfully with a bestowed interest in each other’s learning as well as their own. Well, it’s depended for student who did not feel like they have learned or they have come too close to understanding. However, they are attracted with writing skills which is easy to write an assignment or essay anywhere. Usually, writer can bring in any kind of writing reflection papers, short or long essay, summaries, formal argument for any class or any subject of topics. This collaborative learning is a technique the tutor use to writer or student to impact learning in a positive way. But this discussion does not explain how collaborative learning actually works. Though these may be the areas where discussion of collaboration first appeared, it is more important to understand how the idea of collaborative learning became connected to tutoring. When, I was in tutor, I become gradually upset that students seemed to be having difficulty with the transition into writing at the college-level. Researchers looking into this problem decided that the help being offered to students was too similar to classroom learning. Collaborative working is that when working together in a group is acceptable to the tutor setting the assignment, the work regarding your studies is in any way collaborative as it is online and it is allowed outside the classroom and it is considered helpful as it help the student learn more.
One would have not known much about how to write an effective essay until they have clearly edited their previously written essay during the Expository Writing Stations. Anyone who has looked over their writing multiple times and has found ways to enhance and professionalize it will learn to write in a more clear and concise manner than they had done before. The Expository Writing Stations has helped change the students’ understanding of how to write a proper essay by having the the students edit and review one another’s essays, finding some things that they should have put on their own essay to help enhance the writing. Students also find out about what components of their writing sounds and looks clear, and how their writing could have developed. Their understanding of using correct, accurate word choice and evidence has evolved. The usefulness of the writing center is a truly great resource, the one thing that I really like about the writing center are the desk area where you can sit and complete your assignments, another is the computer lab which is very beneficial to me, when I need to correct an assignment or print out my assignments.
College writing professors teach writing in a variety of ways around the United States and the world. The reason for this is that some professors are trying to teach their students a different aspect of writing an essay or a paper. Two views on this particular subject that I found interesting were Maxine Hairston’s essay "Diversity, Ideology, and Teaching Writing" and also Thomas Bray’s newspaper article "Memorial Day and Multiculturalism". These essays are two totally different views on how diversity and multiculturalism is to be applied in America or taught in the college writing classroom.
Peer writing conferences are important because they offer students a way to receive in depth feedback on their writing, as well as practice writing skills by evaluating the writing of others. However, even strong writers do not know how to give effective writing conferences, and when students do not have practice with writing conferences and or are not given instruction on how to give them, the conferences are short, vague and can become off topic. Teachers can increase the effectiveness of peer writing conferences by using scaffolding strategies such as modeling feedback, discussing writing as a large group, and using different techniques to have structured small group discussions. With guidance and practice, the teacher should be able to step back from these discussions as the student voices take over.

Building self-esteem, enhancing student satisfaction with the learning experience, and promoting a positive attitude toward the subject matter are all benefits of collaborative learning. A higher degree of accomplishment takes place as a group because you essentially are a team. An example of this is a sports team. In a collaborative situation it takes every member to do his or her part in order for a situation to have a greater resolution; as where a sports team needs everybody’s individual talent to win a game. In retrospect, as a group; the contributions of our own talents can make the difference between a “win or Lose situation” it gives you a sense of competition, and knowing that you can win as a group; self esteem in one’s self is accentuated. Johnson and Johnson (1989), Slavin (1967). Another benefit to collaborative learning is based on the members of your group. Every individual in the group demonstrates their own input based on where they were born, what nationality they are so on and so on. The benefit of this is that you get a different perspective on things rather than always knowing what you know. You can take information from other cultures and add or apply it to what you already know.
I have been working very hard on my reflection papers. I always write my papers in advance and get help from writing center. Although I visit writing center and get my papers checked, mistakes are found in my papers. I don't know what else can I do to avoid those mistakes and get better grades on my papers in future. The application of collaborative learning strategies is a process in which two or more students work together. Collaborative strategies will be used in planning, translating and reviewing the education process to form student learning through group-oriented activities. This source will also be useful in lesson planning to help explain how collaborative learning strategies in the classroom will help students in the learning process improve by interaction; how positive interdependence of collaborative learning leads to common responsibility; how collaborative learning builds students’ self-esteem, and confidence in students. This application recommends that collaborative learning strategies can be implemented with Jig-saw technique as well as in learning technology which can be accessible to all participants working in cooperative groups (Iqbal, Kousar, and Ajmal, 2011).
Proponents claim that learners’ academic achievement can be significantly improved with the effectiveness of use of collaborative learning. The active exchange of ideas within small groups increases interest among learners and also promotes critical thinking and deeper levels of understanding of concepts (Benware & Deci, 1984). According to Johnson & Johnson (1986), there is convincing evidence that collaborative teams achieve high level of thoughts and retain information longer than learners who work as individuals. The shared learning gives learners an opportunity to engage in discussion, take responsibility for their own learning, and thus become critical thinkers (Totten, Sills, & Russ, 1991).
