Turning Point Changes There isn’t only one specific thing that can cause someone’s life to change completely. Change depends on whether or not someone allows it. A sudden change in someone’s life, however, is largely caused by a realization, as demonstrated in the stories A Christmas Carol,At the Crossroads,Urban Farming, and An American Childhood. In A Christmas Carol, Mr. Scrooge is visited by 3 ghosts. These ghosts show him how his negative and degrading life is leading him down a dark path. However, this change isn’t in personality as much and isn’t as obvious to people around them. In the story, Nick realizes how boring his life is and decides to travel across the country. He goes to Florida, on his way across America to California. On his journey, he realizes how kind the people around him can be, but Nick decided to pass on money he received to others. The purpose was to “give more than he received.” In addition, Urban farming was a story with the realization and change of life. With people moving to Urban areas, they knew they weren’t around rural areas to provide them with food. They had to start farms in urban areas. This changed not just where the nearest food source was, but also brought the communities together and brightened up some areas. Communities worked together to farm and collect food, and the farms themselves brought color because of the green plants. The last story that provided a sudden change because of a realization was An American Childhood. In this, a small girl, Annie, realizes something about her and other people’s interests. Annie really likes science and looking through her microscope. When she finally finds what she was looking for, an amoeba, she goes to show her parents. However, her parents don’t want to see it.
