Compare And Contrast A Christmas Carol

Behaving wrong could ruin many friendships. Especially the ones you love. A Christmas Carol is a perfect example of this. It shows how greed and anger can destroy some great companionships. The main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, is the very greedy man of this play/movie. All he cares about is making money and using it all on himself. Until he gets visited by three ghosts which are the past, the present, and the future. This drama and movie have many similarities, yet many differences.

The drama of A Christmas Carol is a very popular selection as it brings out the Christmas spirit of even the stone-hearted. It starts with a grumpy old man named Ebenezer Scrooge. He dislikes Christmas and wants nothing to do with it. In order for him to gain his Christmas spirit back he is taken to his past, present, and future by three different ghosts. Doing this helps him to realize what Christmas is about. The turning point of the play is when Scrooge sees his own grave. This made him fully understand what he has done and what needs to be fixed. Ebenezer makes many

promises and will live out those promises the rest of his days. After waking up from all of this, he starts to share his money and makes many good deeds.

The movie of A Christmas Carol is very similar to the drama as the main idea is developed throughout the story.

Just like the play, Ebenezer Scrooge is the main character in the story. He is a mean, cold-hearted man that has no Christmas spirit whatsoever. All that Scrooge cares about and will ever care about is his wealth until he is taken on a journey. He is lead by 3 ghosts of his past, present, and future as he was in the play. These ghosts show him what Christmas spirit is and try to force it upon him. All of this finally hits him once he is taken to the future and witnesses his own grave. Scrooge pleads for a second chance to change his bad ways. Once he wakes up in his bedroom after all of this craziness, he jumps for joy and makes many new friends while mending with some old friends. He fixes many of his wrongs and lives out the rest of his life as a happier, friendlier, and a generous

man.

There are many similarities between the movie and play, but there were a few differences that could easily be noticed. A major difference was that in the movie, the time period in which the ghosts showed up was within 3 hours. But, the time period which the ghosts showed up in the drama consisted in 3 days. Another thing is that Tiny Tim was introduced a lot earlier in the movie than he was in the play. One more difference is about Ebenezer’s love life. The play didn’t add very much detail into it as the movie was extent and added much detail into it. Some of the similarities in A Christmas Carol are that the plot and setting were almost identical in the movie as they are in the play.

A Christmas Carol is an all around great movie and play as it delivers a great life message. It teaches you to be giving and not be greedy as it can lead to a dull, lonely life. And all of this was given by all the characters as they despised this grumpy old man, but after he made many apologies and fixed what was wrong, they all forgave him and took him back into their lives.
