Have you ever heard of a Tufted Deer? Sure you might have heard of the White Tailed Deer but they are two different species. The Tufted Deer scientific name is Elaphodus cephalophus. They both are mammals but the Tufted Deer has fanged teeth. The tufted deer lives in China but the White Tailed is more common to the United States. They are both herbivores so they do not attack unless provoked not for food. The White Tailed Deer is large than the tufted. A Tufted deer has a long neck and a sleek body. The coat has short stiff hairs that are black in winter and are chocolate brown. The lips, ears, tail, and underside are white. The tufted deer uses its white tail to confuse attackers. There is also a horseshoe shaped marking on its forehead that can be seen no matter what color the coat is. It is fifty to seventy centimeters tall and can weigh from thirty-seven lb to sixty-six lb. The male has antlers that are barely visible because they are so short. Also strands of hair grow long enough to cover antlers. Its tail is very short only around ten centimeters. The head and neck are more grey than the rest of the body and the ears have white highlight markings. It is pretty short so can sometimes be mistaken for a wild hog if only seen for a brief period of time. Males canines can grow so …show more content…
It is almost never found south of Tibet. There were older records of the species living in Myanmar but because of the environment they no longer live in that habitat. The Tufted Deer likes damp forests like a rain forest but not as damp. They like to live very far above sea level. Wherever they live there is always a supply of freshwater near them. They normally live with just one other. Salt licks always a good sign for an animal to live in a place. The deer are ok with a few minor disturbances made by humans but the bigger the disturbances the more agitated the deer will get. Then they will be
The second major case of Endangered Specie. The Pere David deer, was first discovered by a western naturalist in 1865, by then it had existed only in captivity for a while leaving no choice to bring large group of animals with he to Europe; where they were bred enough so that there are healthy populations are find in major
Hey, I didn’t see you there, how are you?I'm just wondering whether or not a big ol' grizzly bear is going to come charging at me at any point in my life, but seeing as grizzly bears are endangered that probably won't happen. In the past, there were thought to be around 50,000 grizzly bears in North America, nowadays they are growing sparse there are estimated to be only around 1800, now not even a 20th of the population in the past. Most of these grizzlies are located in Yellowstone National Park and Alaska, but they can also be found in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Some are thought to be in Washington.
The North American Whitetail is typically 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall at the shoulder, and can range from 100 to 220 pounds. The size of the deer depends on the area you find the deer and how much food there is in that area. The males (or bucks) typically have antlers that they shed seasonally. The females (or does) usually do not have antlers, but can on rare occasions. There are some very definite qualities that make it easy to distinguish the white tail from one of its close relatives, like the mule deer. The whitetail is a reddish brown color in the summer and a grayish brown color in the winter. If you ever see a whitetail in the wild, you will quickly see how they got ...
The author provides information describing the deer population in parts of New Jersey; yet, he does not include any data regarding the population in the rest of the United States, nor does he include any sources of where this information was obtained. A reader may be more
As the deer fed at the marsh's edge, its tail flickering as it nibbled tender and ripe green growth, the nervous animal paused in its feeding and lifted its head to listen. Whatever hint of danger the deer had sensed was ignored once the threat could not be located. It stamped a forefoot, lowered its head, and began to eat once more. This deer had failed to detect a Florida panther that was downwind (going into the wind) and crouched low in the underbrush. Amber eyes, however, estimated the distance between himself and the deer.
White-tailed deer, along with the rest of the Cervidae family, are facing a possible epidemic. Although the disease has not spread over the entire range CWD is efficiently transmitted between individuals. CWD is to the best of our knowledge 100% fetal and incubation can take a few years allowing for many possible transmissions. There also at this time is no form of vaccine or treatment for infected cervids. Despite efforts being put forth to control CWD, being a free-range family of animals proves control to be extremely difficult.
Thesis: The population of white-tail deer in Alabama has drastically increased over the past century causing significant damage to property and homeowners, caused by hunters being less active.
I chose to write about the artwork titled “Mule Deer Still Life” by Angela Prond. The artwork is oil on a canvas board. The artwork is a picture of a mule deer skull with its horns still attached. This picture reminds me of hunting, because I do a lot of it and I have shot mule deer before and saved their horns exactly like this picture is. Angela’s title for the artwork makes me believe that she is saying this mule deer still has life and meaning. There is not a lot of background in this artwork, pretty much just the mule deer skull and horns. She did this for a reason, even though the picture is pretty normal and there is not much detail to it, there is more meaning in her title for the picture.
Deer overpopulation is a controversial topic. Some believe that deer overpopulation is not a real problem. Some may also believe the high numbers that studies show, is a scheme to give hunters an excuse to hunt without reason. The truth is that deer overpopulation is a true issue. Deer, especially the eastern whitetail deer population in these modern times, is out of control. “There are an estimated 30 million whitetail deer in the United States today. Under optimal conditions, whitetail deer populations will double every two years”(Rooney). As the numbers of whitetail deer rise, the land for them to live on decreases. This may lead to deer walking on roads and causing accidents.
The deer are easy to spot. In the summer, it’s coat is reddish-brown and in the winter it is buff. All year around its underside and tail are completely white as well as having a white spot on its neck. The prime deer habitat consists of deciduous trees, primarily cottonwood, ash, willow, elm and box elder. However preferred, the woodland cover is not essential to the deer’s survival.

It was a beautiful October afternoon as I climbed to the top of my tree stand. The sun was shining, and a slight breeze was blowing from the northwest. I knew that the deer frequented the area around my stand since my step-dad had shot a nice doe two days earlier from the same stand, and signs of deer were everywhere in the area. I had been sitting for close to two hours when I decided to stand up and stretch my legs as well as smoke a cigarette.
What animal is black and white and loved all over the world? If you guessed the giant panda, you're right! The giant panda is also known as the panda bear, bamboo bear, or in Chinese as Daxiongmao, the "large bear cat." Actually, its scientific name means "black and white cat-footed animal." Giant pandas are found only in the mountains of central China. They live in dense bamboo and coniferous forests at altitudes of 5,000 to 10,000 feet. The mountains are covered in heavy clouds with torrential rains or dense mist throughout the year. Giant pandas are bear-like in shape with striking black and white markings.
