During class 8, I learned about the importance of truthfulness where we have to make our working environment as comfortable as possible so our teammates are able to say about what they think freely and safely. But in reality, creating an environment which could uphold truthfulness is not easy. Al stated that there are many circumstances that make an individual to not telling the truth such as afraid to hurt other teammates and etc. So in class, we do a little exercise in which we all have to close our eyes and think about our product or task team and held a discussion about what our thoughts to our task team.

Additionally, I also agree with my team that we are quite similar in terms of personality. However, after I did the exercise in class I started to feel differently and questioned about the level of truthfulness that my team has. When I closed my eyes, I thought to myself; since we have the same type of MVS which is Blue-Green we may end up reluctant to tell the truth to others since as a blue MVS, we are very concerned about others’ feelings and tend to avoid to take actions which could harm others. This might be the main reason why I prefer not to shared what I thought in previous exercise to my task team. It was very frustrating for me since I know that it is an important issue which could create barriers to creativity and effective problem solving on my team but on the other hand I was afraid that I might hurt my teammates’ feeling. In addition, I also scared my thought during exercise could influence my team which results to unconducive working environment. Additionally, from radical collaboration book, I found that the content or wording which I choose in expressing truth plays an important role in determining others’ responses. Words are powerful double edge tools which could build trust and relationship with others, however It also may reduce the truthfulness level in teams. Given that reason, I promise to myself to be more careful in using words specifically when telling truth to other people so they do not feel offended. For instance, rather than saying “you are lazy person, I do not like working with you”, perhaps I can express the truth about his/her attitude by saying “I think you should work harder so we could achieve success together”. By choosing better words, I believe I could reduce the consequences of telling the truth to others thus lead me to become more open to my team on or outside BUS

Team leader and members should not take anything personal. Like in any relationship controlled your personal feeling. Step back and evaluated the situation and realize that what you think is personal can be a regular reaction for the person. In a situation words must show example to the people you are talking with. Team communication is more about interacting then presentation. To have an effective team one must listen actively, that mean you are to stop talking and listen to each other (Ted Pollock, 2008).
Deception exists in media, among prestigious universities, and perhaps most commonly in the workplace. According to Dunleavy (2010), reasons for deception in the workplace include: competitiveness, conflict, or a response to a supervisor or fellow employee (p. 241). Dunleavy develops hypotheses’, conducts experiments, and collects data to determine what is considered acceptable and unacceptable behavior as it applies to deception in the workplace. Ultimately, the reason for deceiving and the method in which one deceives, through either withholding (omission) or distortion (commission), directly effects the perception of coworkers’ credibility, power, and trustworthiness (Dunleavy, p.241).
Effective communication encompasses many concepts. For a leader to be effective, one must be able to build relationships between different parties. In order to build a good rapport, one must be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of those involved, and within oneself. Acknowledging these differences will allow for a better collaboration between team members. A leader must also have the ability to put conflict resolution theories into practice. Allowing differing points of view may challenge the original idea and will make for a more thorough decision making process. Although this may seem counterproductive, it actually ensures the best possible outcome. One must be consistent in the message presented yet be flexible, approachable and maintain a positive attitude. Allowing for different perspectives to be heard will allow team members to feel valued. This flexibility helps to solidify the concept that everyone is in this together; thus establishing an environment where all team members can have a buy-in. Honesty and integrity are very important in the medical field. We as healthcare workers are given such trust and responsibility. We should always strive to do our best and when faced with tough situations. When we don't always know what to do or the proper way to react we should always be honest. Let our superiors know what is going on and ask for advice when we need to. This would show that we are honest. When we come into contact with patients they rely on us to do the right thing and always perform our job with integrity. Often people’s lives are in our hands. We have to care about the patient and care about our job in order to continue to provide quality care. If someone hates their job they are not going to give their best in every way they can. The medical field is not a place for that person.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. I agree with the statement "honesty is the best policy". People will be able to trust people who are honest, liars will have rumors spread around about them, and it's just plain easier to tell the truth. Each member is comfortable in finding their place and can feel a sense of belonging within the team. As a team member, I portrayed the roles of a team player and a researcher. I may not be the brain of the group, but I was very eager to help and became a reliable member that follows-through on tasks to resolve conflicts. Also, I became a researcher too, at some point.
