Trauma patients
I am currently taking a EMT course through Copper Mountain College. We have had to study trauma and medical cases. I would like to share with you in detail some of the cases that we have studied first ill introduce you to some of the assessments that have to be done before we begin.
For a trauma patients especially one whose injuries are serious-time must not be wasted at the scene. This patient needs to get to a hospital as quickly as possible. On the other hand, enough time must be spent at the scene to assess the patient adequately and give proper emergency care.
A trauma case can range anywhere from a broken bone to death. Traumatic injuries are the result of an outside forces acting on the body. Falls, vehicle collisions, and violence are just a few causes of trauma. It all depends on the mechanism of injury, meaning what caused the accident.
My first trauma patient is a male patient, he has stopped at an ATM machine near his house.
Rushing to make a committee meting, he didn’t notice the man watching him from a short distance away. As soon as he gets his cash, the man dashes in and attempts to grab it. The man who well call Rick, briefly resist and receives a stab wound in the abdomen.
On arrival of the emt they see a man lying on the ground in a pool of blood near his abdomen and back. with a few of his guts purtruding from his abdomen this looks serious. Blood is everywhere and his skin looks as if it had been stretched and pulled till it tore. The skin is blue and red, very swollen and bruised. Rick is screaming for help. As best as possible the emt bandages the wound and loads him up for transport. On the way to the hospital Rick stops breathing. Turning blue and white at the mouth the emt tries CPR. After regaining his breathing they continue to the hospital. A week later Rick recovers fully.
The next type of patients are medical patients. An example of this would be a case like, one afternoon, an elderly man whose stomach hurts, calls 911. There is no apparent mechanism of injury. This man just appears ill so as far as we can tell he could just have the flu. We as emts would assess him to find out more information the proceed to the hospital.
Doing an assessment on a patient is very difficult and must be done effectively and you
Since he had so much downtime he had added his name to a volunteer list of emergency ambulance calls. Gary and his wife had lived in very small prairie town in the middle of of a farm country. With one hamy-down ambulance that the city had given them since they had bought new ones. They had answered calls to car accidents ,farming accidents, gun accidents, poisonings, and a very good amount of heart attacks. He would usually go alone or sometimes with another man who had also volunteered to answer emergency ambulance calls. He recalls that he has seen at least a dozen heart attack victims in the last year. Sometimes the distance were so long that he could not make it. If he did they had to wait at most an hour or maybe longer for the flight for life helicopter. One day he can remember was one day a woman called and said” quick it's my Harvey he is having chest pains again”. He got in the car should of got there in twenty minutes but he got there fourteen by driving like a crazy person. Then saw the man with a weird smile as if trying to say sorry for the difficulty. The wife had also gave him a look like thank god you're here save him please the gray look on him was bad. When he tried to put him on his back he jolted for some reason as if he was getting hit by electricity became stiff and fell on the ground. He told the wife to call for the chopper. Then bent
It is unfortunate that accidents that result in injuries are a part of life. Further more it is also unfortunate that often the party responsible for said accident do not feel compelled to offer compensation to the party affected. However in spite of this, there is still hope for the injured party thanks to personal injury lawyers. They are tasked with representing their clients who suffered from these events while making sure that their clients receive the compensation that they deserve. Ultimately personal injury lawyers play a big role with regards to safety initiatives by helping those injured, which is something that we all should aspire to do.
Gibb’s model (1988) first describes the event, so my description of the event is: Mr X was admitted to the medical assessment unit (MAU) from the A+E (accident and emergency) department, with a preliminary diagnosis of a T.I.A. (transient ischemic attack) and dysphasia. Ross and Wilson (1996) describe this as, caused by small...
Timeliness in medical care can be of the utmost importance. Letting things progress can result in a slippery circle, where a minor infection, untreated end up being life threatening. With increased damage caused by neglecting health care, or waiting on a health care provider, the physical damage, and costs associated increase, often exponentially.
The treatment priorities of the registered nurse upon admission to the emergency department are as follows; within the first 10 minutes of Mr. Bronson’s arrival to the emergency department begin a 12 lead ECG. Assess Mr. Bronson’s vitals heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and administer oxygen 2-4 liters via nasal cannula (Sen, B., McNab, A., & Burdess, C., 2009, p. 19). Assess any pre hospital medications, and if he has done cocaine in the last 24 hours. At this time, the nurse should assess Mr. Bronson’s pain quality, location, duration, radiation, and intensity. Timing of onset of current episode that brought him to the emergency room, any precipitating factors, and what relieves his chest pain.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in the year 1980 we had approximately 501,900 persons incarcerated across the United States. By the year 2000, that figure has jumped to over 2,014,000 prisoners. The current level of incarceration represents the continuation of a 25-year escalation of the nation's prison and jail population beginning in 1973. Currently the U.S. rate of 672 per 100,000 is second only to Russia, and represents a level of incarceration that is 6-10 times that of most industrialized nations. The rise in prison population in recent years is particularly remarkable given that crime rates have been falling nationally since 1992. With less crime, one might assume that fewer people would be sentenced to prison. This trend has been overridden by the increasing impact of lengthy mandatory sentencing policies.
Life is not a contest between each and every person, but a test. Just because someone believes that always making a decision that is in the best interest of themselves is right doesn’t mean that they are out to make the decision that worsens others around them. Personal ethical egoism is the idea that people should act in the best interest of themselves. I believe in altruism and that ethical egoism is an unacceptable theory because it’s proven to be inconsistent and incoherent.
Luckily, an angel in the form of a Coast guard chef rescued him and sought out help. The next thing he knew, he was in a hospital bed without legs (from the kneecap down) and with a broken neck.
Mark and Rickey rush home. Ricky is in state of a shock and Mark calls 911. Ricky is taken to a hospital, and a police officer listens to the story of Mark. He doesn't quite believe Mark's explanation of events.
The United States prison industry is unlike any other in the world. It is very expensive and is largely ineffective in reducing the crime rate and the rehabilitation of its offenders. The Prison Policy Initiative, a nonprofit organization devoted to finding the hidden impacts of society’s reliance on incarceration, discovered in a recent study that the average incarceration rate for the United States in 2014 was “716 out of 100,000 people”, whereas the rest of the world is around “155 out of 100,000 people” (Wyler). According to a report that examined the catastrophes of mass incarceration released by the White House, the U.S. prison population has increased 220% between 1980 and 2014 despite there being a drastic

Human fascination for lions and tigers has prompted circuses, such as Ringling Brothers, to hold these feline animals in captivity for entertainment. However, these actions are morally impermissible because it causes unnecessary harm and suffering, therefore compromising the animal’s welfare (21). Furthermore, the moral issue that arises is whether these circuses are minimizing the level of discomfort their animals experience. The basis of these arguments is not whether lions and tigers have the same mental capacity or communication skills as humans, but the ability to feel pain and discomfort.
Because English is a living language there are frequent changes in the meaning that words carry. These changes can be largely influenced by environment. One of the best examples of this fact is some of the distinct differences between British and American English.
The Standard English is English found in books and newspapers, widely used in the mass media and taught in most schools. Both British and
