June 15, 1999, the rising sun was bright and the air was humid. The morning rush hour commute was like any other seven o’clock day in southern Indiana. The cars were jammed at every stop light. And the people crossing the streets weren’t making it any better. However, one wrong move changed the life of Thomas Pain forever. “I don’t remember how I got there, or why I got there”, said Thomas Pain, “but I do remember this. My friend, Joe, and I were driving down the highway. Joe was a rule breaker. He’d been to jail more times than he could remember. The list goes from deadly fights to grand thief auto. Anyway, it didn’t take much for him to get mad. So the rush hour commute really ticked him off”. “Man I’m tired of these drivers,

We both unbuckled. Thomas climbed into the back. Joe released his foot from the gas pedal and his hand from the steering wheel. As the car slowed down it drifted left. Joe positioned himself in the seat and I throw myself to the steering wheel. The car scraped on the side wall ripping the paint. He positioned myself into to the set and as he did that he saw something in the distance. Cars, lots of cars coming their way. “Stop the car”, yelled Joe.
Thomas angrily tried to put his foot on the break. The cars honked and swerved out of the way. Thomas got his foot on the beak and swerved hard but it was too late. A semi-truck rammed into their back tier. The car was launched to the curb and flipped over the wall. They were falling and falling fast. The car rolled so many times it made them sick. They fell for what seemed like forever. Rolling, rolling, and rolling. Falling fast, faster than anything. Thomas sees the ground AND.
It was dark. Thomas opened his eyes. They were upside down. The whole car was totaled. Thomas looked for Joe. Joe was gone.
“Joe”, yelled Thomas at the top of his lungs.
No one answered. Thomas looked down an almost vomited. There was a metal alloy through has stomach. Blood was

The subway passengers would not take a stand against an injustice right before their eyes. Injustices were in their lives everyday and what was another one? The subway passengers seemed to be desensitized toward the pain. Clay lived out the lyrics in Bessie Smiths song, Downhearted Blues,“Trouble, Trouble, I’ve had it all my days. It seems that trouble’s going to follow me to my grave,” (Bessie Smith, Downhearted
“You know, you have to move fast or face the consequences,” said the officer after a dozen passengers moved out of earshot. Frank’s head shook in disbelief. Eyes were everywhere. He played cool. He hated the way the officer smelled, like wet dirty clothes worn for more than they should.
This poem, brimming with sudden and broken rhythms, is characteristic of jazz riffs popular in the 1920s. In “Subway Rush Hour,” Hughes uses the musicality of his poetry and incorporates it with an important social statement regarding the relation status between blacks and whites.

I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”
Writing is by far the most challenging course I’ve ever had. It is a combinations of grammars, dictions, and proper conjugation that when done correctly, produce a beautiful piece of language. I for one, did not do very well in my attempt to writing a beautiful language. Well according to JK Rowling, “one must fail in order to succeed”, her quote is kind of inspiring for me but the better question I have for her is how much do I have to fail to succeed? My writings are like sort of driving on a road that is full of holes and cracks. It is never smooth. But my writings process in response to the assignments that Professor Bever has given, made me realize about how I’ve become that better writer and preparing for the future. With the assignments I had received and the instructions on crafting a masterful piece of paper. I have made numerous
Logan was on his way home from an evening at the local bar. He and some friends had gone out to have a couple beers. As he sped down the road, he blinked vigorously to try to clear his vision. Although it was a perfectly clear summer night, Logan’s vision was blurred from the alcohol. “As long as I keep this car on my side of the road, I’ll be fine,” he thought to himself. He was doing a decent job of obtaining control over the vehicle, or so he thought. Only three miles from his country home, he became unaware of his position on the road as it began to curve. As he continued around the familiar curve in the road, a truck came out of nowhere at hit Logan’s small Toyota Camry head on. The big F-350 pickup truck was no comparison to the little
I am sure you are like everyone else out there and you want to achieve meaning in your life. There are unfortunately no short cuts to success or to invite meaning and fulfillment, into your experience. They are all the result of self-discipline and consistent commitment. Of course the moment you start down your journey towards the success you have visualized, you will start to enjoy the fruits of your endeavors. The challenge is to remain focused, patient and driven enough to stay on the path you have chosen. This is where discipline comes into it.
At the moment, I was shocked when Ms. Clark told me that Jerry had no mother nor skates, not because I heard her doltish voice. I was shocked at that fact that a responsible and caring little twelve years old boy lied to me. After a while, I wonder why Jerry lied. One thought I had in mind was that Jerry didn't want to get adopted. I wanted to ask why he lied. Although, I wasn't sure if Jerry wanted to talk about it.
Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
With the modern age’s influx of new forms of communication, the skill of writing has taken a back seat for most people in their daily lives as brevity has become of greater importance. The more you can say in fewer – and often shorter – words, the better. While this is acceptable for those who have already developed the necessary motor and mental skills required to write well, it is increasingly worrisome for children who have not yet mastered these abilities, and could potentially set them back for most of their lives. Creative and persuasive writing is incredibly important and should be stressed in education to avoid future academic difficulty and promote a stronger intellectual generation.
She slammed the door behind her. Her face was hot as she grabbed her new perfume and flung it forcefully against the wall. That was the perfume that he had bought for her. She didn't want it anymore. His voice coaxed from the other side of the door. She shouted at him to get away. Throwing herself on the bed and covering her face with one of his shirts, she cried. His voice coaxed constantly, saying Carol, let me in. Let me explain.' She shouted out no!' Then cried some more. Time passed with each sob she made. When she caught herself, there was no sound on the other side of the door. A long silence stood between her and the door. Maybe she had been too hard on him, she thought. Maybe he really had a good explanation. She hesitated before she walked toward the door and twisted the handle. Her heart was crying out to her at this moment. He wasn't there. She called out his name. "Thomas!" Her cries were interrupted by the revving of an engine in the garage. She made it to the window in time to see his Volvo back out the yard. "Thomas! Thomas....wait!" Her cries vanished into thin air as the Volvo disappeared around the bend. Carol grew really angry all of a sudden. How could he leave? He'll sleep on the couch when he gets back. Those were her thoughts.
Finally it passed through the other side followed by an eerie screeching sound. The dreadful sound was emanating from the dry rotted tires that were rubbing against the rails. After the car emerged from the exit of the car wash, it was then wiped dry by the co-workers of the car wash. Watching the employee’s wipe the car I could hear the boy my age say, “I feel bad for who ever owns that car”. The car was fully washed and ready to go as one of the staff members approached the benched and asked which one of us the owner of the vehicle. Again the muttered another comment, “sure isn’t mine”. The comment from the boy made me hesitant, but for a moment I realized the only person I was fooling was myself. So I picked myself up and as I was about to leave, the man in his mid forties stated to me “it could have been worse, my first car barely ran”. With that comment I was a little more encouraged to get into the car and leave with some dignity.
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
