There are many leadership theories that play an important role in the every day workforce. Some of the theories are successful in producing a strong and productive leader, while others lack the qualities required for the job. Out of the multitude of available theories out there, I feel that the Transformational Leadership Theory is the one that stands out as being the most successful. This theory is far from coercive and instead focuses on making a satisfied team that collaborates to form a productive work environment. An environment like this, ran by a top-notch leader, is needed for success. People may wonder how this relates to transformational leadership. A leader that follows this theory is compassionate and caring towards the staff. An employee can’t love their job if they are fearful of their employer, or if they don’t agree with them. Here is where that quote comes into play. A person might love their career path, but that doesn’t mean they love their job. To be enjoyable, a job must have a happy work environment, and that includes a great and encouraging leader. Transformational leaders have high moral standards and values, and provide a vision and mission to their followers, thus followers have respect and admiration for their leader (Mittal & Dhar, 2015). If an employee feels that their leader cares about them, and wants the best for them, then that employee will enjoy going to work. If they enjoy going to work, then it won’t feel like their working, but instead will feel like they are doing what they love to do. Do I think of myself as a potential leader? Yes, most definitely. I know I have what it takes, and I will do everything within my power to lead when it is necessary. As for my future as a leader, I see myself starting in this role as charge nurse, and later on, nurse manager. I love to be in control of situations, and feel that I have the qualities it takes to form an effective working environment. AFDD 1-1 describes three leadership competencies: person, people/team, organization Effective leaders (tactical level) need to build face-to-face and interpersonal relationships that directly influence behavior and values. I will identify three major health issues that are global but has the potential to affect the United States health care system. I will describe these global health issues influence health leaders. I will relate global leadership with transformational leadership. I will illuminate three elements of cultural and diversity within health care organizations. You will find a table of cultural attributes to be made aware of. Studies show that this disengagement or dissatisfaction carries over into our personal lives affecting our health and personal relationships.

As employees, we often have our own ideal of a good leader, which may be influenced by experiences and perception of workplace norms. While one’s opinion of an effective leader may vary, there are several recognized leadership theories. The following will focus on the transformational leadership approach.
Transformational leadership is one of the most popular leadership styles. According to Kendrick (2011), “Transformational leadership involves four factors: 1. idealized influence, 2. inspirational motivation, 3. intellectual stimulation, and 4. individual consideration.” These four factors make transformational leadership have an impact on followers. The goal of transformational leadership is to cause a positive change in individuals, help motivate them, and develop a leader within each individual.
In the article titled, “Does the Transactional- Transformational Leadership Paradigm Transcend Organization and National Boundaries?” by Bernard M. Bass, Bass addressed the different paradigm of transactional and transformational leadership as well as how other factors influence their effectiveness. He notes that leadership is universal and that there are a lot of of sub-factors in addition to hereditary component, which is about forty percent, that affect one’s capability of becoming an influential leader (Bass, 1997). The part of the article that I personally found very significant is where Bass examines the quality of a transformational leader. According to Bass, leaders who qualified as being a transformational figure was someone who had exceeded Maslow's Hierarchy of needs by achieving self actualization and moved past selfish interest. Similarly, one of the components of a transformational leader according to Bass was “Inspirational Motivation [according to which] leaders articulate an appealing vision of the future, challenge followers with high standards, talk optimistically with enthusiasm, and provide encouragement and meaning for what needs to be done” (Bass, 1997).
Due to metaphoric nature of healthcare system, it is significant to encourage leaders to adopt a transformational leadership style, which is flexible for changes. Transformational leadership style recognizes the areas in which requires changes. Transformational leader must have a vision and should be able to communicate effectively to his followers. This type of leaders guide change by inspiring supporters and creating a sense of commitment. By assuming the qualities of transformational leadership style, leaders will be more comfortable and confident when suggesting a change in healthcare policies (Smith, 2011).
There are many different aspects of becoming a transformational leader in 21st century schools. Educators, however, need to recognize the impact that moving in the direction of change will improve our schools success in all aspects of the school. Transformational leadership, as it is now, will continue to evolve in the years to come and this will likely be accompanied by even greater uncertainty and ambiguity. In the forthcoming years, educators will likely see even greater diversity and practical approaches to leadership. That being said, educational leaders need to support these theories in order for student achievement.
