Previous experimental research and Meta-analyses have indicated that transformational leadership has a positive effect on individual performance and organizational outcomes (Howell & Hall-Merenda 1999). Numerous studies have reported positive relationships between transformational leadership and outcomes at the individual level and organizational levels (Avolio 1999 and Kirkpatrick & Locke 1996). Good and effective leaders provide guidance and directions to people they are leading to achieve a common goal. Effective leadership is built upon the capabilities of a leader rather than the believed natural traits. There are two major types of leadership styles which are transactional leadership and transformation leadership. Leadership theories include the great man theory, trait theory, behavioral theory and contingency theory. The effectiveness of an organization depends on three basic determinants which include Efficiency and process reliability, Human resource and relations, Innovation and adaptation to the environment. Transactional leaderships allows organizations to achieve their current objectives more systematically by linking job performance to valued rewards and by ensuring that the employees have resources to get their job done. Transformational leadership will result in high levels of consistency, assurance, trust, motivation, and performance in these new organizational environments.

Using this approach, the manager (leader) and the associates (followers) are “transformed” to enhance job performance and help the organization be more productive and successful. Therefore, the qualities of transformational leadership make the essence of transformational management and the key to successful management of transformational organizational changes.
Leadership is a communication process of a leader and individuals in which the leaders behavior or attitude directs individuals towards any goal effectively. It is widely believed that leadership creates the vital link between organizational effectiveness and people’s performance at an organizational level (Avolio, 1999; McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). The effectiveness of an organization depends upon the leader having an effective leadership style in order to effectively reach the goal of the organization; with it being one of the key driving forces for improving a firm’s performance. Scholars suggest that effective leadership behaviors can facilitate the improvement of performance when organizations face problems (McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). To effectively achieve leadership of individuals and organizational outcomes, four theories can be used; Fiedler’s Contingency Model, Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Model, Vroom & Yetton Participative Leadership Model, and House & Dessler Path-Goal Theory.
There are four more attributes added to the transactional leadership theory and forms the transformational theory. Basically, it is the process where the leader and follower raises their hand for each other towards a greater benefit (Dems, 2015). This type of leadership style is very energetic, enthusiastic and passionate and it’s not confined in a hierarchical relation. Here leader exposed the clear goal to the follower and having a high expectation. But he never forgets about his follower to help them, encourage the. There are many leadership theories that play an important role in the every day workforce. Some of the theories are successful in producing a strong and productive leader, while others lack the qualities required for the job. Out of the multitude of available theories out there, I feel that the Transformational Leadership Theory is the one that stands out as being the most successful. This theory is far from coercive and instead focuses on making a satisfied team that collaborates to form a productive work environment. An environment like this, ran by a top-notch leader, is needed for success.
In business, leadership is defined as developing of a clear goal, involving others by establishing trusting relationships to share the goal, giving the information and tools to accomplish that goal, and leading and managing the differences between the members of the organization (MaRS, 2012). Harvard Business School professor and leadership author John Kotter said that leaders construct a bright future by associating people with the vision, and motivating them to succeed in spite of the difficulties. Discuss the role of leadership and how it can impact organizational performance. The role of leadership is the most important part of an organization. Leadership is having the ability to influence people to trust, believe and follow the vision. There are several different types of leadership styles such as transactional, leader- member exchange, and authentic to name a few. Transactional leadership appeal to an employee’s self-interest which involves motivation in some way to get the employee to do what is needed. This leader mostly deals with employees achieving a goal, then being rewarded for accomplishments. “Leader-member exchange suggests that leaders develop different relationships with each of their subordinates through a series of work-related transactions.” (Hellriegel and Slocum, 2011, p.323) This leadership is a type of bonding between leader and employee or obligation to each other.
