There are a number of reasons that a tooth cannot be repaired due to disease, trauma or crowding. Some patients may have tooth decay, others may need to remove teeth that impede any orthodontic treatment, and others may simply need wisdom teeth removal. If there are no other solutions that are viable to repair the tooth, Dr. Sarkis Aznavour will opt for the tooth extraction.
How do I know when a tooth needs to be extracted?
The following oral health concerns determine when a tooth needs to be extracted: - Primary teeth don't fall out on their own - Broken/Cracked Tooth - Damaged Roots - Severe tooth decay or abscess - Preparation for dentures or orthodontic work
- In preparation for a dental implant - Impacted wisdom teeth
- Tooth infections

You should not feel any pain during the tooth extraction procedure. You will only feel the brief sting of the shot that contains the local/general anesthetic. Once the anesthetic takes effect and our dentist starts to work, you may feel some pressure, but no pain.
During the recovery period, you will experience some degree of pain. However, this pain is minimal and can be easily managed most of the time.
Tooth extraction aftercare
Following the tooth extraction, it's important to follow all instructions given by our Santa Clarita dentist in order to minimize discomfort, reduce the risk of infection, and speed up the recovery. Here are some specific recommendations for a proper care at home:
- Take pain medication as prescribed - Apply ice for 10 minutes at a time to reduce swelling - Avoid rinsing or spitting forcefully for the first 24 hours - 24 hours after extraction, rinse mouth with warm salt water - Limit physical activity for at least 48 hours - Eat soft foods - Do not smoke or drink with a straw
- Keep your head elevated, prop it up with pillows when lying down
- Avoid the extraction site when brushing and flossing your teeth
Is wisdom teeth removal the same as other tooth
Unfortunately, sometimes, your teeth die due to a fracture or some other problem. An extraction is the removal of a tooth that is no longer viable.

The article Poor Teeth was written by Sarah Smarsh with the goal in mind being to shed light on the issue between upper and lower class society in a particularly concrete way. Teeth and dental health are an easy thing for people to imagine in their head because everyone has a set whether they’re white and shiny or black and rotted. This makes it easy to draw a comparison between people that care for their teeth and those who don’t. However, access to dental knowledge and services which the lower class often times doesn’t have is very different between the poor and the rich. While the rich stroll through life showing off their perfect glossy white rows of teeth, there are less privileged people out there with barren mouths whose weak pale gums
"Chronic pain persists despite the fact that the fact the injury has healed. Pain signals remain active in the nervous system for the prolonged or infinite amount of time. Physical effects include tense muscles, limited mobility, lack of energy, and changes in the appetite. Emotional effects include depression, anger, anxiety, and fear of re-injury"(Cleveland Clinic 2013). Chronic pain can develop from multiple common conditions. These can include; instance migraines, diabetes, IBS, fibroids, and endometri...
After surgical joint replacement patients need pain management and analgesia because there is an increased amount of pain and stimuli that are usually not painful suddenly become bothersome (Scholz & Yaksh, 2010). For rehabilitation of the joint to occur, the patient must undergo physiotherapy. This therapy includes strengthening the joint and its surrounding muscles. If an intolerable amount of pain is present, the time for recovery could be prolonged and even chronic complications may result. The natural progression is that the amount and intensity of the pain perceived varies from patient to patient but as the incisions heal the pain intensity gradually declines (Scholz & Yaksh, 2010). “However, some patients experience deep pain or pain referred to the dermatomes that correspond to the operated organ, which persists for months or even years” (Scholz & Yaksh, 2010 p. 512). In the literature a clear distinction is not made in the description of post-operative pain. For instance post-operative pain could occur as a result of aggravation of the affected area by exercise, friction, or some other manipulation that occurs in the post-operative and recovery period (Scholz & Yaksh, 2010). Scholz and Yaksh (2010) ask “are the mechanisms responsible for sustained pain the same as those underlying acute postsurgical pain, or does, in this subgroup of patients, the trauma associated with the surgical intervention provoke different changes in sensory processing?” (Scholz & Yaksh, 2010 p.511)” The post-operative pain that is under examination in this paper is that which is produced as result of the acute joint rehabilitation process. The goal of this project is t...
Patients feel fear not so much from the actual pain but from the lack of control that they feel lying in a dental chair. That creates a lot of anxiousness in some patients, as they don’t feel helpless. Most dentists continue treating all patients in a similarly assuming that they all have similar pain level and will handle the procedure in the same way. Dentists should be mindful of their patient’s level of tolerance and make them aware of the entire procedure ahead of time so that they are able to handle the unexpected situations. They should take time to ensure that the patient feels comfortable at every step. Use of medications and wide array of techniques can help patients eliminate pain and anxiety and making dental visits a pleasant experi...
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Many people are anxious about going to the dentist. Their fear is so severe that they would rather bear the pain than opting for dental treatment. This fear and phobia of dentists are not new but today, because of improvement in technology, skill, and training, dental procedures can be performed with minimal pain.
For those with a strong fear of the dentist, general anesthesia or deep sedation offers the highest level of unconsciousness. Patients using these medications will be totally or almost unconscious throughout the work. Patients can't be easily awakened until the sedation wears off or until medication is provided to reverse the
Ever since I was little I remember playing games where I would fight the bad guy and win the girl in the end. This never seem to affect me or make me wonder what small effect it had on my thought process. In games such as Zelda, call of duty, assassin creed, gears of war, Mario, and even halo you play as a white heterosexual male. The idea of playing this way never seemed to phase me as a young child. As I grew up and became more aware of the difference of people and the need for other as well as myself a need to be able to connect and find one 's self in different place such as games, movies, and TV shows. I became aware of the one sided views that video games seem to have. Then I realized that it was seen as acceptable to only have the one sided displayed due to the lack of speaking out on the need for change.
I sat up dazed, glad it was all over. They then showed me my tooth and I was beyond grossed out. My jaw still hurt from the procedure has we headed home. On the way home my dad told me that I should be more careful when brushing. He said that if you don’t take care of your teeth now it will cause many problems later. Yes, before I was very careless but now I should be more responsible. There should be no short cuts to brushing my teeth. It is not worth all this pain. I should be flossing and using mouthwash everyday.I will try my hardest never to get a cavity
the blockage, the pain is likely to go away over a few days. This usually will
On September 14th, 2016 I had a wisdom tooth removed at Triad Oral Surgery by Dr. Stefan Simoncic. Before my appointment I was informed by my insurance company (Cigna) that although there were waiting periods and they would not cover the cost of the procedure I still would receive a discounted rate for going to an oral surgeon that was in the network. This is why I chose Triad Oral Surgery. At the time of service I was told I would need to pay the amount of $1332.0, which I paid with a debit card. I was also informed that this was the discounted rate. It wasn't until later that I reviewed my recent claims and learned the discounted rate I should have been charged was actually $730.00. I notified Triad Oral Surgery that I had been overcharged
In this “Digital Age” that we currently live in, it becomes very easy for an individual to become infatuated with the amount of social media outlets available on the internet. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat all revolve around the idea of showcasing one’s personal life for the sake of receiving positive feedback or attention by peers and strangers from the outside world. An episode of the Netflix sci-fi anthology series, “Black Mirror,” decides to tackle this topic in a surreal yet imaginative way. The episode in particular, “Nosedive,” investigates a hypothetical future or alternate universe where social media profiles and star ratings have become the norm. The plot revolves around a young lady named Lacie, who
This lesson is designed to review and reinforce a few important concepts about plants (e.g. Needs, parts, sequence of planting) and to also guide the students through applying a few scientific inquiry (e.g. Making observations, experimentation, discussion, reflection, reporting results etc.). The students have previously planted corn and bean seeds and today’s lesson has provided the students a chance to see the results of the planted corn and bean seeds. Additionally, seeds have been planted under and growing under the following conditions: without water, and without soil. The students see the results of these seeds planted under these conditions for the past week. Two plants in particular have already been grown their growth has been
