Per 5 Ria Phelan Dunlap / LA 12/17 The Dentist I took a seat in the lobby of my dentist’s office as I waited to be called. I was as stiff as a board when it came to any matter regarding my teeth. I never had a good record when it came to dentist visits so needless to say I was petrified about my upcoming appointment today. Up until I got my first crown, I was very care free with my teeth. On my last dentist visit however I was told I needed to get a tooth pulled. The thoughts of this conjured up images of a torture chamber and all the hurtful tools which would be used. “Ria Phelan” my dentist called as he grinned at me “ How was your day” he asked, as he perched me in a dental chair “Good,” I answered …show more content…
but thinking this might be one of the worse days of my life. He then talked to my mom about the entire procedure. Just hearing that made me so scared I already felt like crying. I didn’t want to look scared and weak so I forced back the tears. “Don’t worry Ria maybe it won’t hurt that bad. I am probably overthinking things too much. This will be over before I know. Plus they probably have some special tools so it will be quick.” I thought to myself. “ Okay then, would you please sign here” he said to my mom. I then saw his assistant take out a long needle. They were about to start “ Would you please hand me the anesthesia ” my dentist said to his aid They brought out the long, sharp needle to inject in my gum, cheek, and other places in my mouth. I looked at my mom with fear written across my face. She didn’t look very happy but she knew I had to get this done with sooner or later. “Please let this be painless and brief”I thought to myself but I knew that wasn’t going to happen “Can I have the pliers now” my dentist said. His aid passed the pliers to him as I trembled with fear. “What, Pliers I thought it was going they were going to use something more sciencey and technical.” I thought to myself “ Open wide” he said softly I knew this was going to be the worst part.
My eyes were tearing up even before started. I knew from my past that it will hurt, and I know how much. They then started. He yanked to one side, and then the other, bringing out the tears. I squeezed my mom’s hand as it continued. I struggled and moaned but it wouldn't stop. I cried like a maniac for the pain to stop. “It stings. Please stop” I Muffled a cry but I doubt they heard me. “Oh don't be such a baby” I remember my old dentist saying. I couldn't get those words out of my head. I tried to block out those words, I tried so hard but it didn't work “It will all be over soon. I would have to get pulled out sooner or later so I should be glad to get it over with it. But I'm not. I thought to myself. “ Just a few more minutes” he said Soon after my brothers walked wondering what all the screaming was about. At this point of the procedure i didn’t think things could get worse but that was before Aryan’s little comment. “Eww there is so much blood. ” He commented with a disgusted look on his face. I looked down to see so much blood gushing down my chin. I was regretting ever letting them come …show more content…
along. I then looked down to see blood gushing down my mouth and let out a yelp of pain “Ahhhh” I shrieked . Oh it hurt so bad I was begging for it to stop. Not only was my mouth hurting but it felt like the pain was surging through my body, every inch. “Gross, Ugh ”, my big brother Patrick murmured as soon as he saw the blood in my mouth and was totally grossed out. “Ugh, Patrick wouldn’t last a second in my position” I wondered When they soon left they seemed to really made things worse.
The pain felt twice as made and 1 minute like an hour. They yanked harder and harder bring out many huge tears. “Dont worry it all be over soon” My mom reassured me ALMOST OVER!! Are you kidding it feels like decades! I thought to myself I gripped my mom’s hand for comfort luckily it helped. The pain seemed to die down and I started to feel my tooth starting to come out. I knew the final blow was about to happen “Ahhh!!!!!!” I let out a yelp that traveled throughout the building. They had finally pulled out my tooth. I sat up dazed, glad it was all over. They then showed me my tooth and I was beyond grossed out. My jaw still hurt from the procedure has we headed home. On the way home my dad told me that I should be more careful when brushing. He said that if you don’t take care of your teeth now it will cause many problems later. Yes, before I was very careless but now I should be more responsible. There should be no short cuts to brushing my teeth. It is not worth all this pain. I should be flossing and using mouthwash everyday.I will try my hardest never to get a cavity
again.
It was very painful, but the pain got worse when he had to find the bullet. When he finally found it and tried to pull it out it hurt twice as much. The pain just wouldn’t stop. The pain was unbearable. It was the worst pain that i have ever felt.
Now you feel safe and you don’t actually need to feel the pain to the extent you did when protecting yourself. Because you are now protected by your mother.
Many people are anxious about going to the dentist. Their fear is so severe that they would rather bear the pain than opting for dental treatment. This fear and phobia of dentists are not new but today, because of improvement in technology, skill, and training, dental procedures can be performed with minimal pain.
I was in my basement with my younger brother and my dad. My brother and I were bored so we started to pass a basketball back and forth. All of a sudden the ball hit my brother in the mouth. He flinched and had a look of pain on his face. I saw a tooth come out of his mouth and fly under a shelf. My dad gasped and looked at my and my brother. I was afraid my brother was going to be really mad at me. Luckily my brother doesn’t get hurt easily and he was fine, and actually happy I knocked out his tooth. I was relieved to know I didn’t hurt my brother. The only problem now was to find his tooth. My dad got a flashlight and shined it under the shelf searching for the tooth. Thankfully we found his, although it was very dusty.
I have worked in the dental field for over five years now. During this time, I’ve assisted in several different types of dental procedures. But I have a favorite. My favorite procedure to do is to extract teeth. If you’re like most people, you’re probably cringing at the thought of having a tooth pulled. But believe me, having a tooth pulled in a dentist office is a lot different than your mom doing it with a piece of floss and a doorknob. There are a lot more steps and instruments needed in a dental office to make a terrible experience more comfortable.
Extraction of teeth is a considered a quite normal and almost painless procedure these days. You just have to visit the dental clinic and the dentist is going to extract your tooth easily without causing you any pain. You are not going to have any lasting pain after the tooth extraction process as well. So, there is no need to fear a tooth extraction. However, if your pain does not subside in a few days and instead becomes severe then there is a chance that it might be a symptom of a condition called alveolar osteitis, commonly known as dry socket.
and pumped what felt like a gallon of Novocain into my gums completely numbing the side of
Dr. Rust's Office, these three words echo throughout my head and I can't breathe. I sit in this awful discomforting place. My body shakes in terror and Suddenly I hear a soft comforting voice say my name, "Genna, Dr. Rust is ready to see you now." On the outside, I am smiling and happy, but on the inside, I scream in terror. Although I had been there and experienced that extreme pain many times before, I dreaded yet another visit to the dentist.
“Oh I see,” Daddy Monster said, “Looks like we got to go the dentist today.”
It is normal for your mouth to feel a bit sore once the implants are installed, which can make the process of flossing and brushing uncomfortable. It’s important that you don’t let this discomfort prevent you from taking care of your oral health. You need to stay on top of keeping the surgical area clean in order to reduce the risk of a potential infection.
I stared in horror at the fearsome needle taunting me to challenge its glinting tip. I closed my eyes, prayed with every cell in my body for the pain to be minimal, and grimaced as she expertly twirled the needle between her fingers and then slid it through my flesh in one fluid motion.
He was shaking. It was from the cold in his body or the pain I couldn’t tell. Mom was trying to act calm but her eyes said otherwise, She was terrified. Scientists say our brains repress or forget traumatic memories. Parts of this I forget. My Mom took him to Medstar Hospital, and she left us in the house. She said it was too late for us to go out and for us to go to sleep. We couldn’t sleep, so we worried.
It felt weird having metal in my mouth. My teeth were no longer smooth. As soon as I got home I ate like I never ate before I ate real good that night. In my mind I was thinking no one knew what they were talking about braces,do not hurt at all. Till I thought, as a soon as went to bed I felt like my teeth got knocked out with a baseball bat, then drilled back in and got knocked out with a bus. It was major pain, I ran to the car so fast to get the wax to relieve all that horrible pain I was feeling. The orthodontist was right I would thank her for that wax. For the next two weeks I ate nothing but smoothies, my teeth were so sore. I cried myself to sleep every
After a few minutes, I get called into the dentist’s room to begin my check up. A rush of nerves hit my body and I run into the restroom to give myself a brief pep talk. I finally go inside the room and sit on the dental chair. As soon as a walk in, I noticed the tray with all the dental tools covered in blue plastic. The blue plastic indicated that the tools have not been used yet. I then notice the dentist and his dental assistant sitting there with a smile on their face. The dentist and his assistants begin to make small talk with me, but I stayed quiet. Instead, my mother answers all the questions on my behalf. In that moment, I was not in the mood to talk and I was paralyzed by my nervousness. The dentist and his assistant put on their gloves and began opening the tools. They gave me a pair of sunglasses and a bib for my shirt. Then the dental chair makes a whirring sound and positions itself so it 's easy for the dentist to begin poking in my mouth with the dental tools. The whirring sound causes me to start squeezing onto the armrest to calm me down, and I remember ripping the chair’s fabric slightly. The dental assistant turns on the air compressor, which
When he first pointed it out I assumed that he was pulling my leg. When I did reach up to touch my face, I pulled my hand down and saw that it was wet with my own blood. I had kept a level head until then, but when I saw the red liquid staining my hand, no matter how much I hate to admit it, I started crying like the little third grader that I was.
