There are many problems that students run into during college years. Life happens, and issues with time management start to run rampant as students start to juggle priorities. Family priorities could come first in a student’s life. Financial pressures may start weighing down spirits and reduce motivation. The stresses that come with having a full time job and juggling school commitments increase with time. Procrastination becomes a more common behavior as strain and demands increase. These burdens and stressors can be harmful, and unfortunately they are becoming widespread in the college community. Learning some valuable information to combat this type of behavior at an early age can prove to be helpful and healthy. Making some minor adjustments to institutional practices can be supportive to achieve an effective learning environment.
Problem:
Procrastination is a major barrier hindering effective learning for college students. Procrastination is becoming an epidemic amongst college students. There are two common reasons students procrastinate: lack of time and unorganized priorities. These same students generally have time management issues and are likely to procrastinate in other areas of their lives. The stress levels that procrastination behavior brings are not healthy. Some students do not see this behavior as a bad one. Some students actually thrive on the rush against time, as if it produces creativity.
Other reasons why students procrastinate include fear of failure and success, perfectionist expectations, and legitimate activities. These activities may take precedence over school work, like a job and or family obligations.

Students will be motivated and encouraged to finish assignments on time; they will be more relaxed. It will reduce academic stress and improve success strategies. A time management plan reduced academic stress more than relaxing. Anxiety lessening and time management in combination with relaxation activities may be an effective approach for decreasing educational stress in college students. (Misra and McKean)
The outcome of this research clearly has the potential to change the view of this epidemic; from being inevitable to being one that can be maintained with some planning. Planning within the courses to assist each student with effective learning techniques is benificial for all.
Anxiety. Regret. Frustration. Restlessly glancing at the clock, cringing every time I do. Staring at a blinking cursor, waiting for inspiration. Spending a restless night trying to squeeze out something to turn in the next day. This is a process known all too well by me, and most high schoolers in America, one known as: Procrastination. I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
With every new experience come challenges, and anxieties that can be overwhelming if they are not handled and dealt with in a reasonable way. Beginning college is certainly no exception. Stress takes many forms, most notably in the academic sense, as exams, papers, and various projects and assignments. Making the grade is an important aspect of many college students, and the best way of getting good grades without sacrificing all aspects of a social life is effective time management. Well developed time management skills not only help to organize all the different pieces of a students life it also reduces their levels of stress and anxiety, while allowing them to achieve decent grade point averages. Simply learning and implementing useful time management techniques can help anyone through the turbulent transition to college academic life.
The definition of procrastination is: the action of delaying or postponing something. Tim Urban, who conducts a speech called Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator for TED in 2016, explains that every human is a procrastinator- some more than others. I agree with everything he says in his speech because I can connect with every piece of evidence he claims, mostly including that there is a “Panic Monster” that pops up in your brain when you are close to a deadline and haven’t gotten anything done, especially when it comes from why I’m always so stressed out about school. When you keep putting off things, they keep piling up and getting in your way of achieving other things. Then you have missed opportunities, frenzied work hours, feel stressed, guilt and resentment; you find you are being overwhelmed easily because there is just so much to do.
Time management is not a new idea and many methods have been proposed regarding the best way to handle time management issues for business students. These suggestions can often be quite simple, such as writing down lists of things to do in order to support people in making good use of their time for work or recreational purposes. When time pressures are high, planning tasks and actions does not always lead to the completion of the work. It is in recognition of this that time management training programs have been designed, aiming to give an insight into the time required for activities, ways to make time plans, and increasing the efficiency of people by teaching them how to plan properly, how to prioritize tasks, and how to handle unexpected tasks. This is increasingly easy, particularly for students, as “books, articles, and time management training programs that were initially developed for managers have been made available to everyone”.(Claessens, Brigitte J.C. 2004).
