There are many problems that students run into during college years. Life happens, and issues with time management start to run rampant as students start to juggle priorities. Family priorities could come first in a student’s life. Financial pressures may start weighing down spirits and reduce motivation. The stresses that come with having a full time job and juggling school commitments increase with time. Procrastination becomes a more common behavior as strain and demands increase. These burdens and stressors can be harmful, and unfortunately they are becoming widespread in the college community. Learning some valuable information to combat this type of behavior at an early age can prove to be helpful and healthy. Making some minor adjustments to institutional practices can be supportive to achieve an effective learning environment.
Problem:
Procrastination is a major barrier hindering effective learning for college students. Procrastination is becoming an epidemic amongst college students. There are two common reasons students procrastinate: lack of time and unorganized priorities. These same students generally have time management issues and are likely to procrastinate in other areas of their lives. The stress levels that procrastination behavior brings are not healthy. Some students do not see this behavior as a bad one. Some students actually thrive on the rush against time, as if it produces creativity.
Other reasons why students procrastinate include fear of failure and success, perfectionist expectations, and legitimate activities. These activities may take precedence over school work, like a job and or family obligations.

The benefits to implementing the suggested solutions above are abundant.
Students will be motivated and encouraged to finish assignments on time; they will be more relaxed. It will reduce academic stress and improve success strategies. A time management plan reduced academic stress more than relaxing. Anxiety lessening and time management in combination with relaxation activities may be an effective approach for decreasing educational stress in college students. (Misra and McKean)
The outcome of this research clearly has the potential to change the view of this epidemic; from being inevitable to being one that can be maintained with some planning. Planning within the courses to assist each student with effective learning techniques is benificial for all.
