People adventure and those people are the most interesting of all the others because of the stories they tell or are they? People who are afraid can also tell stories because of stories on how they went to being afraid of something to how they overcome it. So most things aren't so different after all. So is their a difference between courage and a thrill-seeker. Basically yes their is more than a difference they are like opposites of each other. They don't compare but instead contrast to every single aspect of each other. One way is that a courageous person is someone that looks fear in the eyes and fights for what's right and themselves but a thrill seeker is someone who doesn't see fear but instead they go on the perilous journey just …show more content…
One way this can be true is that someone that seeks thrill will only go on the adventure for fun like in the movie that is called "Journey 2" and in this movie a young boy wants to figure out what causes so much trouble in a part of an island and he wants to do it only for the fun and their was no treasure in for him to do it he just wanted to do it because he was a thrill-seeker. On the other side for the courageous people an example could be Mafatu from the book "Call It Courage" when he was teased for being afraid of the water at sea because his mother died their and he was to afraid to save her but then Mafatu was courageous enough to go set out to see and go to an island and bring back something to show his courageous tribe that he was not afraid anymore but instead happy for what he had done and now he was to be the most courageous boy in the island. This was a good story and it wasn't because of the thrill but instead because of the courage he had to do the thing he …show more content…
For example in one movie called "Journey 2" as mentioned above their was also the boys girlfriends father who went only for the money. He was going for the riches because in the island they head out to their was a volcano that throw out gold rocks. This was mostly for the business he had with helicopters and the father also got money by bringing the boy and his father to the island by a helicopter. On the other hand the father didn't just want the money for himself he was not selfish and instead was courageous as well because of a reason. He decided to go to that dangerous island all for his daughter and to get her enough money to join a university so that she can live a good life so that the father could stay happy. Their were many dangers on that island but for his daughter nothing was to big nor to
An example of courage, as the judgment that something else is more important than fear, is through the character of Kak in B for Buster by Iain Lawrence. In this novel, Kak is characterized as a young, determined boy, desiring to turn himself from a comic book reading boy into a World War II hero. Planning to escape his drunken, abusive father, Kak enlists himself in the Canadian Air Force although he is underage and only sixteen years old. During his first mission, he is becomes frightened of the risk of not coming home alive, but doesn?t show his emotions because of his austere, intrepid crewmen. During this mission, Kak did not have an absence of fear, but he felt that becoming a hero like the ones in his comic book, and accomplishing his dream of fly, was more important than his fear of dying.
One of the best explanations of courage is the following by Maya Angelou: “One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtues with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.” Her explanation summarizes all that courage can lead you to who you are in life. Courage is standing up for what you believe in, despite disapproval, pain, fear, uncertainty, or intimidation. Courage is challenging what is normal. Courage is giving voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Courage is using whatever power available to educate the world about injustice. Courage is following your heart even when the path is not known. Courage is trying after failing.
Courage is the thing which can be found in a child to an old man. It needs a lot of courage to take out courage from the heart. It is like a brain. It depends on the person, how and when he uses it. This tiny word has the power to convey the whole gesture of a person. According to Harper Lee?s genius ?To Kill a Mockingbird?, Courage is when you know you are licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through it through no matter what.
Courage can be best described as the ability to face something that frightens someone. When
Q1: The argument suggests courage be defined based on, the actions of an individual and the situation they are placed in. Someone could be put into the same situation and act on the situation differently based on experience, knowledge, desperation, and the meaning of the action or situation to an individual.(192c1-3-192d7) Someone with more knowledge will act more accordingly to a difficult situation if they know what their chances are in succeeding in that action or the consequences attempting it. Courage is a representation of bravery. If someone stands up for something not only to benefit them but to
In this case, knowing the ocean can be unpredictable these mean still chose to go through with their journey. Even though the probability of dying is low, taking a risk that could mean losing a life is not worth it. Therefore, people need to be knowledgeable about the activities that they are going partake in. For example, In “To build a Fire,” a man went on an expedition to map out a pathway and he went all alone, along with his dog. This man did not learn enough about his expedition until he got himself involved in the life or death situation. “That man from Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country. And he had laughed at the time!” Consequently, the man had died on this journey, for making decisions that were risky. Another example of getting involved in a life-or-death situation is volunteering to go to war. Although these people want to protect their country, they need to know that there is a risk involved in going to war. For example, In the story “Moral Logic of Survival guilt,” it talks about soldiers who choose to go to war, and either come out dead or
Leo Buscaglia, a motivational speaker and American author, once stated, “Life is uncharted territory. It reveals its story one moment at a time” (thinkexist.com). The quotation reveals that anyone can have an adventure because life is an adventure. Homer’s the Odyssey and Miguel de Cervantes’s Don Quixote tell the stories of Odysseus and Don Quixote. The two men’s lives are full of adventure, but they are two completely different adventures. Odysseus continually fights for his life, whereas Don Quixote simply fights for chivalry. Odysseus and Don Quixote are different adventure heroes because of the reasons for their adventures, their accomplishments, and their bravery.
When telling their story, the narrators clearly express their aspirations of living an adventurous life. They both view international travel as a vessel for self-discovery and meaningful memories. For example, in Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa, David Sedaris expresses his desires for life-long memories and international travel when he writes, “They weren’t rich, but what Hugh and his family lacked financially they more than made up for with the sort of exoticism that works wonders at cocktail parties, leading always to the remark, ‘that sounds fascinating’.” According to this passage, Sedaris seems to believe that money is less important than experiences and memories themselves. One is able to infer that he yearns for a life that is filled with adventures. He wants to have the ability to tell interesti...
After going through many trials Poseidon threw at him, Odysseus was determined to get home. He was devoted to his home, and he took every chance he had to push himself forward. As Odysseus states “..what i want and all my days i pine for is to go back to my house and see my day of homecoming. And if some God batters me for out on the wine-blue water, I will endure it, keeping Additionally, Rumpelstiltskin spent more than 20 years to find his son, who was stolen from him, never doubting himself. Searching for his lost boy, his determination moved him forward throughout his journey.Harriet Tubman believed that every slave should be free, she took many routes during her journey to find ways for the slaves to escape. Not knowing the way she was going, Tubman was still determined to make it to Canada, she crossed unknown paths beyond Philadelphia to lead the slaves to their freedom and their new homes. Having your mind determined on one thing can venture a journey further ahead than those who go on random will. Determination can lead a hero into the right path, it helps one choose what they want to do and how they're going to do
Although everyone must explore and be adventurous to find who they are, they should do it in a rational way. In my point of view Chris McCandless was suicidal when he decided to enter the wild. John Krakauer, the author of Into the Wild, led us to believe through the shaved clean cut pictures of Chris that he was going to come home. However, I believe Chris did not intend to come home because of his unreasonable thinking and his unwillingness to prepare himself for the wild.
Many people confuse courage for not being scared of what could happen, Franklin D. Roosevelt once said that “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important that fear.” Courage isn’t being able to act like nothing will scare you or make life more difficult, it’s the ability to realize that something will be difficult or scary and you overcome the difficulty. Courage is the ability to overcome hardship, not avoid it or create more of it to make yourself seem more
Courage is a state of mind that enables a person to overcome fear, pain, danger, or hardship. Although different from one another, all aspects of courage involve taking risks.
What is courage? Courage is the spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, and bravery. Courage to me is bravery, heroic acts, and people that put their life in danger. Many people show acts of courage everyday in the world. You might not know if you are showing courage, unless it is a big act.
As stated by Yeung Kathryn, “You get in life what you have the courage ask for”, courage is a highly acclaimed trait that shows the action on the consequences of fears and doubts. This is not a single characteristic. It is the combination of numerous quality such as bravery, passion, faith and so on which makes a perfect human being. Though it is very easy to pronounce, it needs lots of struggle to raise up. The value of courage is profound by motivation behind it. By being brave simply is not considered as courage.
First, a courageous act must be known to the person that it’s dangerous. Most people wouldn't even think about doing an act that was dangerous even if they would be labeled as a courageous person afterward. If an act is risky it is hard to get someone to do it because the majority of people need not be injured in order to go to work or even just do normal everyday activities. Although most may not actively put their lives in dangerous situations
