SETTING
The majority of the book takes place downstairs of Chesterton High School, where community service was held in room 104. It takes place in a small town where there are many running trails through woods, abandoned skate parks and many thrift shops.
PLOT
The book is mainly focused on what got Ashleigh Maynard into sixty hours of community service. With it being summer, Ashleigh’s boyfriend, Kaleb is constantly away from home with his baseball team, playing as much as they can before summer ends and they all part off to different colleges. Ashleigh, whose only an upcoming junior realizes she’s been quite lonely without him, other than cross-country. So a few nights before school starts again, Ashleigh partied at her best friend Vonnie’s house, who is known for throwing the biggest and baddest parties. With the music up, and the red solo cups filled up to the rim, everyone there let go and just enjoyed lounging around on the patio deck or the pool. Rachael, one of Vonnie’s friend, who Ashleigh can’t stand, suggests that if Kaleb isn’t going to make it to the party, why not send him a present just as juicy. Doubting herself and the idea, she never would really go through with sexting him a picture. Until all her friends talked her into it, or at least slurring the

Ashleigh blamed and assumed that Kaleb was constantly with girls until one day he couldn’t stand it anymore. They fought, and he drove back down into town and br...

THEME
To always think of the outcome of things and never be pressured into doing things you’re not comfortable with. Another theme is to always keep your head up, because things always look bad, but you need to step back for a moment, and look at it as a whole. That way you can wrap your head around things, and know it can only go up. Things may seem bad at first, but it may just teach you a lesson.
PERSONAL RELEVANCE
I think this book is very interesting and informative towards teens my age because it
shows a poor decision made, and the mess it led up to. It teaches us as a whole, that sexting is
illegal and that we should not follow what Ashleigh did. It only produces a chain of events

Remembering this theme will remind me that no matter how bleak things look, there is always a way for things to get better. It will also encourage me to work harder to discover this way, which will encourage me to work harder even in normal situations.
I think that the messages this book displays are important for anyone to think about, and apply to their lives every day.

The main idea of the book was a girl learning to cope with her past and and trying to grow from it. Charlie starts of in a mental institution for self-harm. She is then taken out of the place because of her mother’s lack of money. She goes to Arizona to be helped out by her friend Mikey, which is gone most of the time. Charlie gets a job at a weird coffee place and meets a guy named Riley, where they instantly get a connection. The rest of the book is Charlie trying to learn how to deal with all of her past hardships and find a better way to deal with the memories and pain. The only two coping methods she seemed

I would recommend this book to all teenagers and young adults. The allegory would be an
Teens should be able to read this book because it also, teaches about real life family situations. Lastly, “ Mary, her dad and her stepmom moved all the way to jackson Mississippi . But, at home back in ashland, Ohio Mary’s mom is very sick and dying” (Arnold 3-5 ). This quote, proves that this could be happening in a real life family situation. It also, is showing that teens that read this book this same problem might be happening to peers around them. Teens should be informed about family problems so they know that peers like them might have the same problems as them and could
While Alex explores the strange new world of college life, her friends take jobs as lifeguards or perform menial labor at the local deli. When Alex returns the following summer, these new tensions explode at a beach party. While the book has its dark comedic moments, the pages are full of the ennui and nihilism of young adults with nowhere to go.
It was as if Lexi’s heart started pumping extra blood to her head to the point of almost becoming dizzy. She sat down and shook it off. Her brother asked her what was wrong and she just brushed it off to the heat. As the game muddled on, Lexi’s brother asked his sister did she see that woman who caught the ball? He too thought that Natalie was quite a looker. Lexi agreed, since her brother already knew her sexual preference. In fact he was always the most supportive thru- out the
On Wednesday, August 7th, Arlyn ate lunch at home, acting normally. I noticed she didn't eat a lot, but it was no big deal. Afterwards, she showed us a dress she had bought, presumably to wear in Misty Smith's wedding. Then, Arlyn said she wanted to go visit friends and left the house.
After work I called Kendra to tell her what happened. She said, “Randy has done something indistinguishable previously. Randy took a girl’s application, looked for her number, and started texting her. She told him to stop, and he didn’t.”
