This Changes Everything by Naomi Klein is a book that stresses the importance of immediate climate change action. This Changes Everything denounces the incredibly popular capitalism in favor of a completely different system. Klein believes that climate change offers a chance to “change everything” in relation to the economic and political systems that have been put forth.

The type of rapid system change that Klein describes calls for immediate change to shake the foundation of capitalism with the help of everyone in the nation. Gradual environmental change can occur anytime in the distant future with the help of both everyday people and political leaders making policy changes. Probably the largest difference is that capacity of help the planet receives by both ideas. A rapid change to economic and political systems would have a much larger impact on a global scale than would a gradual change to environmental reform. Another difference between rapid system change and gradual environmental change is who has the power to make the change. As aforementioned, rapid change has to be made through social activism by the people, because denouncing capitalism is not what the elite minority stands for, while gradual change can happen by the political leaders, but within the agenda of the elite minority. Another difference between the pace of system change is what kind of change is made. Klein’s rapid economic and political change calls for starting from scratch within the realm of the economy and politics. It insists on the stray from capitalism to a new form a better world socially and environmentally. A gradual shift to environmental progress could be approached from various ways but would most likely happen in a way that does not disrupt the capitalistic economy that is seen today.
