As physical therapists, we play the role of healers, motivators, and teachers. In order to successful treat the complex patient, physical therapists must play the above three roles throughout their time with the patient. The knowledge acquired in Professional Issues lecture is beneficial when learning how to best manage and teach a patient. In this report, I will discuss the areas of critical thinking, objective goal setting, identify my current level of critical thinking, the theory of multiple intelligence, and topics of discussion with Mary McMillan. I am able to identify numerous deficits in my thinking patterns. In addition, I have begun the process of reflecting upon my thinking style in an attempt to practice my critical thinking skills. While I’m aware regular practice is required to progress to the next level, I often fall short and do not spend time practicing daily. When thinking about this question, I created three activities I believe could help further develop my critical thinking skills.

1.Every morning and night I can find a quiet place and spend a few minutes thinking about the day ahead of me or reflect back on my day. I think having time alone with only my thoughts will help me better understand how I think. A better understanding of how I think would allow me to pinpoint and analyze areas of weakness. If I am able to correct and improve these weakness, then I could slowly progress to the next stage of critical thinking.

2.Surrounding myself with experts in our field or spending time with my classmates who are different thinkers than me. My goal during these interactions is to be as close lip as possible so I can process, analyze, and attempt to better understand other styles of thinking and make the comparison to my style. Studies show this style is usually a pupils linguistic and logico-mathematic approach, which may place students with different intelligences at a disadvantage1. Research suggests educational systems should utilize the multiple intelligence approach in order to teach in a more effective manner1. In cases where the multiple intelligence approach has been implemented in a school setting, the results have revealed an increase in not only the amount, but depth of knowledge2. For an educational system to teach in the most effective manner they should have their teachers teach in a variety of styles that involve all intelligences of all the
