According to Audrey Berman, nursing includes promotion of health and wellness, prevention of illness, restoration health and caring for dying. Nursing should also be professional, holistic and client centered. As Kathleen Masters said Nightingale Nursing approach is focus on the person and the environment, through the nursing intervention to help the people recovery. When applying the theory to nowadays, that means providing a comfort place to the client to recovery. When we say caring, it seems very abstract. However, Audrey Berman illustrated that there are six Cs of caring in nursing, including compassion, competence, confidence, conscience, commitment and comportment. At that time, there is not so much complaint. However, the education level of Hong Konger is increasing and they can know more about the disease and their right. Therefore, the client and their parent may have a high expectation on nurse. People may think nurse should not just a caregiver, but should be a professional caregiver, educator, consellor with passion and ethic. Beside working in the hospital, the demand for nurse who work outside the hospital is rising. They are respect, trust, empathy, power and professional intimacy. In the video, Ms. Ho is working at the hospice hospital, she has a good relationship with clients. Ms. Ho respects all of the client, and offer a good care to the client, in order to let the client live and die with dignity. Besides, the video also shows that all of the nurse are well educated, therefore, clients are willing to trust the nurse and trust that the nurse can protect them. Ms. Ho treat the patient with her heart, showing her empathy. She knows that clients in hospice hospital not just need physical care, but also psychological care. This inspirits me that if we use our passion to care the patient, they can feel and it can help us to build up the nurse- client therapeutic relationship, and they may be brave to seek for your help when they need, this an increase the quality of care. Last but not least, although nurse may have more professional knowledge than some of the client, seem to have more power than client, we should know client also have their autonomy and right to choose.
