Even though playing video games can sometimes be educational; it causes laziness. Video Games have been around since the early 1940s. Meaning people have been playing video games for at least the last 74 years. Based on research the first violent video game came out in 1976 known as Death Race. This game was described as sick and disturbing. Death Race was a driving game and you received points when you ran over people. Think that is violent, imagine the violence in the video games 28 years later. Violent video games affect the present and the future because they impact children’s mind, behavior, and education.
In today’s society video games have a bad reputation and a negative connotation because research has said that video games promote violence. Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill by Dave Grossman and Gloria DeGaetano is a book about the negative effect the entertainment industry has on children’s, “We should not be surprised that half the video games that a typical 7th grader plays are violent”(1). Well violent games do not make a child violent, however if you have a violent kid already then a violent game may make them more violent (Zichermann). It has also been said that video games can distract kids and cause anti-social issues. Dr. Dimitri Christakis from UW states, “Children habituated to games may find the real world underwhelming and under stimulating.” Which means that children will be out of touch with what’s going on around them because they are too consumed in their video games.
“We are no longer worried that children are missing school because of video games, though. We are worried that they are murdering their classmates because of video games.”-(Tom Bissell). Video games are teaching kids about violence and other things. Many video games teach kids how to kill other people even if it is animated especially in "M" rated games. Video games are bad for little children.
This is the largest and one of the most influential types of media that the children of the past few generation have been exposed to, it has passed music in terms of it industry, people play them worldwide, yet we know so little of the affects they have on us and what we could use them for that could create hugely helpful innovations for the world. The media is biasedly propagating misinformation and using video games as a fall man for the violence that can more easily be attributed to poor parenting and neglect, or just downright psychosis in the individual. So see video games for what they are meant to do, stimulate, captivate, and entertain the human brain, and not to create mindless violent monsters.
By far the largest concern of technology today is video games. There have been so many experiments and studies to try and figure out if video games have a negative or positive effect on our children. A growing body of research is linking violent video game play to aggressive cognitive, attitudes and behaviors (D.A. Gentile, 2004). Video games can obviously be dangerous for our children causing aggression, bad performances in school and obesity. Although we cant blame all of these problems on the use of video game...
Video games challenge the player and expand his ability to react fast with very little lag time. With years of practice the player becomes quicker and more accurate with the movements. Thus hand and eye coordination is better, the player sees something on the screen and has to physically react to it. Not only is hand and eye coordination improved but so is manual dexterity (Taking Children Seriously). For example Madden 2004 is a football game, which requires fast reactions. If the player does not have the quick reaction skills develop then the other team will most likely sack him. The player needs to realize he has a limited time to throw the ball and most get the pass off quickly, he needs to scan the field, look for a possible escape route, and watch for the defense closing in. Another type of game, which improves hand and eye coordination, is shooting games. Although these games, such as Time Crisis 2, are being criticized for its violent content, these games force the player to quickly scan the screen for criminals to shoot before they are shot. The police force uses similar methods to train their officers to raise reaction speed when they are out on the streets. Related to h...

Nowadays, video games are frequently accused of having detrimental effects on children and adolescents. The main arguments against video games are that they lead to addiction, that they provoke violence, and that they impair social development. Whether or not such claims are true has not been determined with certainty as scientific studies have produced contradictory results. Nevertheless, video games also have beneficial effects, which tend to be underrated, as they do not receive the same level of media coverage that adverse ones do, and are thus unknown to the general public. Some of the positive effects of playing video games on mental development include: stimulating analytical thinking, improving concentration, and encouraging planning and anticipation (“Video game controversies”).
In society’s current era of technological advancement, video games have gone a long way since they were first created. Video games in the twenty-first century are no longer just toys or junk in the lifestyles of the youth. They have become innovative inventions that not only entertain its users, but also help aid the people in both the academic field and in jobs. The influences that video games bring about in the culture of the youth today are, in fact, not the negative influences that most people think. Video games are actually this generation’s new medium for educating the youth. The information they learn are also mostly positive and useful things that they may apply in their future lives (Prensky 4). In a generation that revolves around technology and connectivity, developers and educators have already been able to produce fun and interesting games that can teach and train people. Video game developers and educators should continue to collaborate in order to create more positive, educational, and appealing games.

A video game may involve interacting with people over a webcam but it is not giving a child the ability to learn how to interact with others face to face. Violent video games can cause children and young adults to swear and act in an aggressive manor and that is not what people look for when building relationships. These violent games are also causing children to be more aggressive towards others and not caring about their actions. These young adults do not have filters on them when out in public. They see bullying as a normal action, not one that needs to be punished. Hitting, kicking and stabbing are typical actions seen in a violent video games and these young children are learning to use them on others. These games are causing children and young adults to feel stressed and later have anxiety attacks from them. Children are becoming addicted to these games and when left alone they feel sleepless, nervous and uneasy. Violent video games have a part on the violence among young people increasing every year. These games influence human behavior, which isn’t always positive. Children and young adults need to understand the difference between interactive violence and impact violence. Violent video games are impacting the lives of children and young adults and how they connect with the

One such change was the increased accessibility of personal computers and gaming consoles as well as the introduction of numerous video games. Due to their entertainment value, these games gained popularity among children and teenagers. Although many concerns have been voiced related to playing video games, especially those that are violent, [e.g., increases in aggressive behavior in children (Anderson & Bushman, 2001)], this paper will argue that certain video games also have beneficial effects.
