The yew tree is a very ancient and old tree. It is described as ‘so ancient it almost seemed to be made of the same stone as the church.’ Which highlights how old and resilient the tree must be. The reader can also assume the tree is ancient because all the stories the monster is telling were set a long time ago. The tree’s resilience reflects Conor’s own resilience and emotional strength, even whilst he is going through very hard times.
