What if your son or daughter was in a war and his leg was blown off or his skin was burned up, would you want help? Many troops go out and defend the country that we live in every day and many get very injured. These troops that are mentally or physically injured deserve help for risking their own lives for ours. There are many who get injured and have to deal with their injury for the rest of their life. Even these types of injuries can get help dealing with it.
Nick Bennett was a man that had to deal with one of these traumatic injuries. Nick was in Iraq and was nearly killed by a surprise rocket that came down on him and his other troops. The rocket came out of nowhere. He suffered a post-traumatic stress disorder and was haunted for the

It was created in 2003 in Roanoke, Virginia. This was created by John, a former troop, to help people like him get help with their injuries. John was in a war and his convoy drove over an IED (a mini hidden bomb) and crashed and killed fourteen of his members. After this event, he started a nonprofit charity in his basement with 50 dollars. He wanted to help marines like him after a horrific injury. (source 1).
The Wounded Warrior Project does not have any ties to national organizations because it is one itself. “We have an obligation to empower our wounded warriors to lead happy, productive lives,” said Roger Campbell of the Wounded Warrior Project. The wounded warrior project wants to honor and empower Wounded warriors that incurred an injury on or after September 11. You are also eligible for the charity if you are a family member of a wounded warrior. They offer a combat recovery program, This program helps the warriors forget what happened to them and their friends in combat. Another program that they offer is a Physical health program which helps the warriors get back to their full condition. There are also many other programs those are just a

This charity has helped many warriors get back to their normal lives after a horrible injury. Although there are many warriors that die everyday and many that get injured very badly, The Wounded Warrior project has helped many of them heal and relax.
Many families over the years have used wounded warrior to help get their family member or friend. 94% of family support participants learned self-care techniques. There are 945 warriors working with this charity trying to help people just like them get back to normal. The unemployment rate for nonactive duty warriors is 16.6 percent right now. Without the Wounded Warrior Project, that number would be much higher. After an injury, Warriors can help get jobs from the Wounded Warrior project. They also have jobs available for their charity for the warriors to work. “When I opened the backpack and saw shorts, and a t-shirt, and a calling card, all these things… I really don’t know if there will ever be a gift that can come close to the significance and the timeliness of that one.” -Wounded Warrior. This organization does a great job helping others. If it wasn't for them there would be many warriors suffering from serious injuries. This organization should continue because there are people out there defending us and our country that go through so much to protect us, they should deserve something back if they are injured.
The Boys of ’67 Charlie Company’s War in Vietnam, by Dr. Andrew Wiest, is an account of Charlie Company’s involvement in the Vietnam War: from the activation of the Ninth Infantry Division, the draft and training, the arrival in Vietnam, the battles and losses, the replacements, the Freedom Bird, and ultimately for some, to the return home. The author writes of boys who were just becoming men and how they were brought together, the only division during the Vietnam War to be trained together and deployed together, to create a group of soldiers who became a band of brothers. The Boys of ’67 is the story of that brotherhood and how they walked through a year of living hell and were changed forever. As Dr. Wiest writes, “That jarring transformation, along with the transformation of the country to which they returned, changed the lives of the boys of Charlie Company forever.”

Soldiers relied on drugs and alcohol to ease stress and forget the horrors of the battlefield. Word spread back to the states that the soldiers were using drugs and the military acted quickly to suppress drug use. After banning marijuana, the soldiers used heroin and favored it. The drugs used were easily obtainable but were harder to obtain after coming back to the states. Some veterans were able to stop their alcohol and drug use, because it began to affect their marriages and relationships.
In Tim O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, the readers follow the Alpha Company’s experiences during the Vietnam War through the telling’s of the main character and narrator, Tim. At the beginning of the story, Tim describes the things that each character carries, also revealing certain aspects of the characters as can be interpreted by the audience. The book delineates what kind of person each character is throughout the chapters. As the novel progresses, the characters’ personalities change due to certain events of the war. The novel shows that due to these experiences during the Vietnam War, there is always a turning point for each soldier, especially as shown with Bob “Rat” Kiley and Azar. With this turning point also comes the loss of innocence for these soldiers. O’Brien covers certain stages of grief and self-blame associated with these events in these stories as well in order to articulate just how those involved felt so that the reader can imagine what the effects of these events would be like for them had they been a part of it.
Veterans who have long services and are influenced by the military’s training have struggles with their civilian life after separating the military. They have to start from the beginning with their stressful, impatient, and painful. On the other hand, our Congress have mandated some benefits for all veterans to share their endurance. However, there are some reasons that many veterans cannot get any benefits from the government like some homeless veterans can’t afford themselves and their family, which is telling our society need to care more about them. For the reason that, our society should take more action to help veterans because of their services and scarified
While soldiers are away from home, many things might change that they aren’t there for, for example, family problems and disasters. In addition, veterans might come home to a whole different world than when they left, and this already makes their lives more challenging to go with these changes. In addition, soldiers might also come back with physical injuries, like a lost limb, or loss of hearing. As a result, this makes everyday tasks much harder than they actually are. Veterans also might be mentally scarred from war. For example, a mental disorder called post traumatic stress disorder, makes life for the veteran and family much
It was once assumed that the government would provide services for veterans, but nonprofit organizations and communities have been picking up the slack to help veterans get back on their feet after returning home. The government is dependent on nonprofit organizations to supply veterans and their families with the necessary goods and services. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is an organization that provides services for veterans and their families. The WWP focuses on mind, body, economic empowerment, and engagement, all things that help veterans through post-war symptoms (The Wounded Warrior Project). The government is recommending giving less housing allowances, limiting pay raises, and having higher fees for health care benefits; other cuts would include stores being unable to give discounts to military families (Nissenbaum and Barnes). The amount of money veterans receive for housing, health care, and retirement is being cut left and right by the government and the money is being used and put towards other departments. In California, The County Veterans Service Officers Inc. plays a very important role in verterans’ lives (California Association of County Veterans Service Officers, Inc.) Many organizations help veterans who are in need of services because our government is not always able to provide...
They are much like shelters for other specific causes, however, this one is very much dedicated to helping veterans get back into the swing of an ordinary life. Veteran homeless shelters provide many things. One of the many things would be health benefits. According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, “A person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable may qualify for VA health care benefits.” (2015) Another thing that these organizations do is help homeless veterans become more social among each other as well as provide them with hot meals, a place to sleep, shower, and a new pair of clothes. Places like the homeless shelters for homeless veterans even help them get a job and get their life back in order before they were
It is understandable that some people may disagree on improvement of veteran care due to simple things like the fact that “veterans were getting addicted….even dying, from over prescription,” when they asked for assistance with their PTSD, but when all things are considered, veterans risked their lives for freedom. People should be able to take the time to take care of those who were willing to give their lives for freedom. Colby Buzzel says “if you want to know what the price of freedom looks like, go to a V.A. waiting room- wheelchairs, missing limbs, walking wounded.” These are all things that veterans have to go through to ensure freedom. And that is added to their struggle of PTSD. So, before people say that veteran care for PTSD does not need improvement, they need to think about whether or not they are willing to pay the same price that these veterans were willing to
The war destroyed and put an end man's life. It destroyed people in physical and even the emotional. These soldiers with major injuries will hold them all back from what they love to do most and what they w...
War is one thing that we all know is a necessary evil. The United States has been involved in many wars since being founded in the late 1700’s. There are many reasons that the United States has been involved in, or is currently involved in wars. Although war is not always a popular thing to become a part of, the full effects of the war are not always known and may never be known as long as the United States is a country. Stephen Crane tells us that there are many effects of war in his poem “War is Kind”. From that it can be derived that physical, mental, family, etc are all effects of war needing to be monitored. All of these effects are causing hardships among the people that are coming home from these battles either directly or indirectly. The full effects of any war are never known and are something that is going to need further investigation to allow professionals such as mental and physical health doctors to provide soldiers with the help they so greatly deserve.

In turn, donations and goals accomplished by and through the Salvation Army foundation give the administrators confidence that their programs are working. Social networking has allowed these organizations to have campaigns for fundraising they are associate within communities and other non-profit organizations.
Our soldiers not only risked life and limb for our country while serving in the Vietnam War, but they continue to suffer immensely. Americans as well as Vietnamese troops and civilians suffered great losses when it comes to casualties. Witnessing first-hand the pain and death of strangers and allies, isn’t something one is likely to forget. Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been one of the many repercussions of witnessing these gruesome events (Mental Health America). Veterans, their families, and the government have come together in combat in attempts to address the detrimental effects of PTSD.
Nonprofits serve multiple roles in improving the quality of life (The Philadelphia Foundation)They are created and put in certain communities for different reasons pertaining to each situation and enhance the environment in that way. Think about it, when you drive through a community with lots of homeless people, what do you automatically think? It’s poor community, right? Well I do, and you never want someone to think poorly of the place you liv...
One way you could give back to veterans is visiting sick or injured veterans in a V.A. Hospital. A V.A. hospital is filled with veterans who have served. The hospitals provide
