Change is from within. How does one become so glorious and victorious and overcome such battles? The day he never thought even existed becomes reality in a blink of an eye. His own mother, murdered in cold blood right in front of him. He watches as the knife pierces her skin, her eyes slowly closing but not before looking at her son and saying 3 meaningful words “I love you”. The Vampire Diaries is the perfect example of the one and only “Healing Myth” because it portrays Stefan’s broken beginning, the brutal catalyst, and the powerful archetype. The beginning of something incredible to witness. Love can drive many away. Love drove Stefan away for many reasons. The upbringing of young Stefan was horrific. At first glance, Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the hour-long TV series which premiered in 1997 and is now in its third season, bears little resemblance to the book which started the vampire craze -- Bram Stoker's Dracula, published a century earlier. And yet, looks can be deceiving. Although the trendy -- and often skimpy -- clothing and bandied about pop-culture references of "Buffy" clearly mark the series as a product of a far different culture than that of the Victorian England of Dracula, the underlying tensions of the two texts are far similar than one might think. Beneath the surface differences in the treatment of their heroines, the two texts converge in similarly problematic anxieties about gender and sexuality.
J. Gordon Melton, in the excerpt “Sexuality and the Vampire” published in his The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead (1998), explains that vampires have a sexual appearance that started from their origin in Dracula. Melton supports his statement by analyzing the monsters' transition to sexual beings through the stories of Dracula’s desires, multiple countries’ erotic tales revolving around vampire-like beings, the manifestation of sensual themes in literary, stage, and screen works, and their current evolution of the once terrified immortals to loved heroes. The purpose of this essay was to outline the seductiveness of the written immortal creatures in order to explain the fanged-mammals’ appeal beyond their terrifying monster abilities.
Without the force of love, conflict would cease to exist in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. Love specifically seems to be the foundation for misfortune to occur because of how obsessed characters become with reaching for what they cannot have. Unfortunately, love or even lust at times seems to drive the plot and lead to action, most of which are disastrous. It all began with Abelard when he tried to save his daughter Jacquelyn from the wrath of Trujillo and ended up dying anyway. The theme of calamity continues nearly fifteen years later when Belicia throws away family and friends over a man. The man she loved, The Gangster, turned out to be married into the almighty Trujillo family and well, that doesn’t end so well for Beli since she
The True Blood series had an excellent run and was successful on many levels. Turning obscure actors into common names, giving others titles such as “Sexiest Man Alive” and giving even others the ability to secure roles in international movies. The series itself was given awards and became celebrated on an international scale. But to those of us that were die-hard vampire fanatics since “The Lost Boys” swept the world in the 80’s, we were just happy that the vampire stories had been revived. Now we can just have to wait until the next amazing macabre fantasy is
Vampires are intriguing mythological figures that are endured in the literature since the eighteenth century but the bloodsucking creatures from then are different from the ones we watch in popular films today. In the past, they were portrayed, as bloodsucking monsters that fed off the lives of helpless humans but today, according to Karen Backstein the modern vampires are made too sexual. In her article “(Un)safe Sex: Romancing the Vampire” Karen Backstein explains how today’s vampires has been drastically altered and they are now too sexual. Because of her credible background of having a PH.D in cinematic studies she does a wonderful job in convincing her audience that movies like Twilight and popular TV shows like True Blood, Vampire Diaries, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have
...spell merely made them fall in love with Helena. However, since they were temporarily “in love,” they acted irrationally, resulting in complete chaos. It was the state of being in love that caused them to make rash decisions, not the spell. Therefore, irrationality and love are connected.
Healing is a relative term. Healing is also a universal term. The question is how these two fundamental parts of human existence related. The key is found in healing hospitals. Now to many, a healing hospital sounds redundant. However, a healing hospital refers not only physical healing, but also an all-around healing environment. This encompassing theory of a healing hospital provides care for physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological needs for all patients. Instead of discrimination and rejection of religion and faith, it uses these cornerstones of people’s worldview to reinforce their healing process. This is a very biblical aspect of care
The reality of love is governed by one's reality and each and every individual subconsciously obscures their reality in their own form which is dictated by one's past, influences, and surroundings. Unfortunately, John’s grueling reality caused him to associate negative emotions with love. The paralyzing anxiety of being exposed to one's significant others grotesque imperfections leaves a deep unrepairable scar in one's heart. In addition, to painful memories of one's past stirring up driving one to the brink of insanity. Clearly, John has only been exposed to the sharp and jagged end of the blade of love. This negative association with love might have played a key factor in his demise as it is done with a vast majority of other human beings. Love is something we as humans endeavor for, only to be shattered and consumed by that very same
... show the reader that people in the world customarily really do not change. Victor contradicting himself leads Walton to understanding that his pursuit of knowledge may cause the deaths of his crew who have family and friends.
Dr. Marc Parnes tells his story about becoming a healer. He tells us a great deal about being a physician healer. Write a few sentences about your own story/trek to be a healer, perhaps....(for instance)....how you decided it, what told you to go that direction, how it feels at this moment for you, or what you know about yourself as a healer?
In Shakespearean drama, a dynamic and explosive fusion of jealousy, pride, anger and ambition is characteristic for heroes’ behaviour. The tragedy was caused by the excessive flaw in character - self-respect and dignity combined with the feelings of hate and revenge. A disaster usually occurred to lead to destruction of the protagonist. Due to divine justice, punishment is inevitable and therefore no happy ending is possible. Therefore, time is the hero’s main enemy, mercilessly working against him. The mystery of tragedy is that once the protagonist has learnt a lesson of how to renew the order in himself, death is the only outcome /no memento mori, however/.
...rrive home from school early because they have received a notice. Dr. Stockmann reassures his family that everything will be ok. He will host a school in the same room where he was branded an enemy of the people, and raise the poorest boys to drive out the wolves. Katherine worries that the wolves may drive him out of town, but Thomas reassures her that they don’t stand a chance. The doctor has made another great discovery…that the strongest man stands alone.
Love can be described as the lustful tension between two beings, or the bond that one shares with family and friends. Both of these are expressly shown in the tragedy. Both also containing similar, yet starkly different characteristics. In all, the concept of love is a great
Although we might not all agree on whoever or whatever created the human body, I think we can all agree it is an amazing, self-functioning machine. The ability of the body to maintain a healthy status quo and to heal itself without input is unlike any man made machine in existence. However, with today’s society wanting more and at an ever accelerating rate, the incredible inventions of doctors, engineers and scientists have that work in conjunction with the body to heal is truly amazing. Despite the body’s talent to heal subconsciously, it turns out there is many ways we can affect the process with our current health, both positive and negatively. The human body has programmed ways to recoup and revive damaged cells but in an ever changing world there are many things we can do externally and internally to affect the body’s already amazing process.
Throughout the tragedy Shakespeare foreshadows the conclusion numerous times by adding clues toward what will happen next. In addition, when in times of despair Juliet constantly will resort to comparing good to bad. Finally, adolescent decision making is truly perceived to be ignorant. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet’s tragic fate was able to end a feud that had torn apart two families for several generations. The theme that people cannot escape their own fate is shown through the motif light and dark. Although Romeo and Juliet entered the dark together they now will spend eternity in the light.
