A Unique Caribbean Gemstone. A unique gemstone that has fast become the Caribbeans most famous gemstone. The name "Larimar", from a combination of "Larrissa"( daughter of Miguel Mendez) and "Mar", was the name was given to the stone by Mr. Miguel Mendez, who combined his daughter's name LARIssa, with MAR, the Spanish word for sea. Larimar is an extremely rare gemstone that has been found only in the mountainous, relatively inaccessible region of the province of Barahona, in the south-western region of the Dominican Republic overlooking the Caribbean Sea. It is the only locality where Larimar, classified as blue pectolite, appears on the terrestrial crust as I know it. Larimar has an extraordinary blue appearance, similar both in color and Scientifically, Larimar or Blue Pectolite is unique in it's mineral and chemical make-up. Sodium calcium silicate with a copper ion is the chemical description of Larimar. Larimar is also known as a healing stone. It can soften the stress and tension that problems bring. Its powers are believed to reduce anger and frustration and then gives relaxation, the various colors each exert their own particular energy. Blue tones calm the spirit, greens assist healing, while red patterns strengthen the will. Larimar helps us in a physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritual way. Highly recommended for stress. Larimar is a new and extremely welcome member of the family of healing stones. Larimar is finely tuned to the human body, especially the 5th Energy Center (Chakra; Vishuda), situated in the throat area of the body. This area is also associated with communication. The Energy Center (5th Chakra) holds the thymus gland, which regulates the immune system, and the thyroid gland near the trachea, which secretes a hormone to regulate growth. Larimar increases speech and communication skills, supports the healing process (thymus), and increases the possibility of regulating thyroid gland malfunction - physical as well as on other levels or It also softens the stress and tension that problems bring. The Atlantis Stone. Larimar is sometimes referred to as the Atlantis Stone, it is said that this connection was helped along by a Spiritual Master who once lived in Trinidad & Tobago and having founded many Yoga Centers in the Caribbean, United States, Australia, and South America. He claimed some islands in the Caribbean, particularly the Dominican Republic, were in fact part of the sunken continent Atlantis. Edgar Cayce, ?The Sleeping Prophet? (1877 - 1945), indicated that part of Atlantis could be found in the Caribbean. He also indicated that on one of those islands one would find a blue stone with extraordinary healing attributes, a description that corresponds to Larimar. Other sources in Europe have ratified the widespread belief that the island where Haiti and the Dominican Republic are situated, was indeed part of the Atlantis continent. It is well known that Larimar exists only in one region in the world, close to Baoruco, province of Barahona, Dominican Republic, not far from the border to Haiti, and hence the popularization of the name Atlantis

Deep within African mines, elusive diamonds lay enveloped in the Earth’s crust. Possessing much influence, beauty, and tension, nature’s hardest known substance causes parallel occurrences of unity and destruction on opposite sides of the globe. Diamonds, derived from the Greek word "adamas", meaning invincible, are formed deep within the mantle, and are composed entirely from carbon. Moreover, only under tremendous amounts of heat and pressure can diamonds form into their preliminary crystal state. In fact, diamonds are formed approximately 150km- 200km below the surface and at radical temperatures ranging from 900-1300 C°. When these extremes meet, carbon atoms are forced together creating diamond crystals. Yet how do these gems, ranking a ten on Moh’s hardness scale, impact the individual lives of millions of people besides coaxing a squeal out of brides-to-be? These colorless, yellow, brown, green, blue, reddish, pink, grey and black minerals are gorgeous in their cut state, but how are these otherwise dull gems recognized and harvested? Furthermore, how and why is bloodshed and violence caused over diamonds in Africa, the supplier of approximately 65% of the world’s diamonds? (Bertoni) The environmental, social, and economic impact of harvesting, transporting, and processing diamonds is crucial because contrary to popular belief, much blood has been spilled over first-world “bling”.
And there was Bartholomew Diaz who was also a navigator of the sea, but he was from Portugal, and the first European to round the cay of good hope in 1488.
The ocean is what connects the people of the Caribbean to their African descendants in and out of time. Through the water they made it to their respective islands, and they, personally, crafted it to be temporal and made it a point of reference. The ocean is without time, and a speaker of many languages, with respect to Natasha Omise’eke Tinsley’s Black Atlantic, Queer Atlantic. The multilingualism of the ocean is reminiscent that there is no one Caribbean experience. The importance of it indicates that the Afro-Caribbean identity is most salient through spirituality. It should come to no surprise that Erzulie, a Haitian loa, is a significant part of the migration of bodies in Ana Maurine Lara’s Erzulie’s Skirt. Ana Maurine Lara’s depiction
“Table rock is a conglomerate composed of olivine, augite, andesine, labrodorite, magnetite, hematite, apatite and orthopyroxine. Table rock is a geologist’s classroom as the lava caps display irregular column jointing and uneven displacement” (Lorenz, 1970).
Many people would argue that Columbus had discoverd the west Indies this is because most of the historians in the 1400's, which were Europeans therefore they writ biased text glorify their country where by they wanted to avoid any form of negative conspiracy attached to it. Even though we have read the Europeans point of view, we are still left in the dark as to hearing both sides of the story. We have been shown only one side of the coin, the arawaks were illiterate and therefore is was most unlikely to keep anyform of records concerning the evens that had taken place. As outsides to the real facts, we have little knowledge of the arawaks and what had really happened.

Before Haiti was called Haiti, it was called Quisqueya by its original inhabitants the Arawaks, the Tainos, and Caraibes. CLA stands for "conjugated linoleic acid". It is a fatty acid known for promoting good health. This was first identified by Dr. Michael Pariza in 1978 while he was studying beef extract as a cancer prevention. What he found instead provoked a surge of research and scientific studies into the benefits of CLA as a fat reducer. After looking at decades of research scientists have found that CLA may in fact help the body to deposit less fat, build more muscle and may
Neither legends nor danger were a match for the overwhelming curiosity of a forbidden place. In the early eighth century a bishop from the near by town of Avranges named Aubert made the crossing. After finding it safe enough he started frequenting the island which seemed to be an escape from civilization for him, and a place where he could meditate un-intruded. During meditation one day on the island the archangel Michel visited Aubert and convinced him to build a church on the island. In 708 the modest chapel began construction on the island, many buildings have come to rise and fall on the island since then.
Easter Island was founded by Dutch explorers in 1722. History.com recently stated, “ Easter Island roughly covers 64 square miles in the South Pacific Ocean.” Scared sites recently said, “ Easter Island is one of the world’s most famous yet least visited archaeological sites.” Meaning that it is famous ground but archaeologists hardly go there. Ayurveda is the general name given to the collective practices of ancient Indian medicine and is made up of many different components such as lifestyle changes, iridology, massage therapy, aromatherapy and importantly, the application of medicinal plants and herbs. As an ancient science, until recently not much research has been conducted on the efficacy of such treatments and practices. This has been due to both the lack of availability of concrete resources and debate on the validity of translations of first sources. Of all the herbs, the use of three of the traditional plant-based treatments- namely Neem (Azardirachta indica), Sage (various Salvia species) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) - will be discussed due to reported high efficiency rates and frequent usage. These plants are reported to be highly useful in the field of Ayurveda and are not only the most frequently listed of all the herbs but also the most frequently researched. Although many cases have been documented to prove the usefulness of these herbs, there have been many cases that discourage the practice of Ayurveda by providing an argument against the safety and reliability of these herbs. Many of these claims now have recently been verified or shown to be false through proper scientific study. The use of neem and turmeric in particular has become highly controversial due to the concepts of biopiracy and biopatents and a brief introduction of that topic will be given with specific examples. Issues of safety and the general lack of scientific study will also be discussed. Negative effects of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic remedies that have been discovered through research are presented. Other benefits of using Ayurvedic plant-remedies such as cost effectiveness will also be analyzed.
