Teenage “suicide is the second-leading cause of death among children and young adults aged 10 to 24” (Fox, 2015). In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet both commit suicide. Analyzing the story, it becomes obvious that these teens were likely to commit suicide because of the risk factors and lack of protective factors in their lives. When teens feel hopeless they are likely to commit suicide. People have different reasons to die by their own hands. Emotional, environmental, and, mental are the three categories that most people's reasons fall into. Undoubtedly, emotional causes often spur from breakups, or other drastic negative changes in social life. Oftenly, teens will commit suicide to “ escape feelings of pain, rejection, hurt, being unloved, victimization, or loss”(Tracy, 2016). Consequently, when teens have no solutions for their problems they feel that suicide is the solution. “Bullying, cyber bullying, abuse, detrimental home life, loss of a loved one or even a severe breakup” are ways that the environment can increase the chances of voluntary death (Tracy, 2016). Both Romeo and Juliet were at high risk because they had been grieving over the loss of each other; plus they had nowhere to turn to for help. Additionally, the couple was in a high risk environment.They were both being forced out of their homes for different reasons and felt that life without the other was hopeless. Furthermore, Romeo and Juliet had proven to be rash teens and made impulse decisions taking them to their demise. Romeo commits suicide because he thinks Juliet is dead; Juliet feels helpless when she sees him dead, so she stabs herself. The young lovers seemingly couldn’t cope with their grief; they took their lives in common ways. Romeo and Juliet felt despondent, and they recklessly determined to expire
