The Tudor scandal that took place during the lives of Elizabeth and Mary is a well-known story of betrayal, hatred, envy; and England became a stress ball for the famous Bloody Mary. Henry VIII was known for having six wives, and then ridding himself of them after each of them failed to give birth to a son. The first wife, Catherine of Aragon married Henry in 1509. Previously married to Arthur (Henrys older brother) was “passed down” to Henry as he took the thrown after his brother’s death. Yet after eighteen years Henry said "'If a man marries his brother's wife, it is an act of impurity; he has dishonored his brother. Under rule of now King Edward there was an abundant amount of scandals amongst the Tudor family. Many male figures in the family tried to fool the young king into handing over the thrown; since queens weren’t seen as valuable the females didn’t advance towards the thrown. Edwards died at the young age of fifteen on July 6th, 1553 from tuberculosis. Mary happily took the thrown and became Queen of England. As Mary took the thrown she attempted to turn England Catholic as it had been, before her father changed its religion to Christianity. Soon after becoming queen Mary thought about marrying Prince Felipe of Spain the son of her former fiancé Emperor Carlos V. Although the contemporaries assured her the fact the Prince Felipe was eleven years younger than her didn’t matter, the citizens of England didn’t like the idea of a foreign king sitting on the thrown. The people of England feared that England would become a part of Spain, even though Mary assured she would not let that happen. Mary agreed to marry Felipe October 1533, making the engagement official. Many people including the King of France thought that Carlos V would try to get England to join the war between France and Spain, but all he really wanted was to control England’s trade so that Spain could make of course, more money. When the people heard news of the marriage there were many rebellions against the marriage. Royal subjects of both England and Spain questioned the safety of both Mary and Felipe. Mary was forced to prove that her safety was valid by punishing the rebels. She must use them as an example. Many of Mary’s advisors told urged Mary to execute the leader of the biggest rebellion.
