She then went to her cousin, Elizabeth, for protection. Soon, Mary divorced Hepburn, and he then died of insanity, in a Netherland prison, in 1578 (“Mary, Queen of Scots” par 12-15). Mary was accused for the Babington Plot, which called for the assassination of Elizabeth. Many say that this plot was also to trap Mary, since many people wanted to kill her. The first chapter in the book discusses the reign of King James V, father of Mary Stuart. He became King of Scotland at the age of one after his father’s death at the Battle of Flodden. His marriage to princess Madeleine ended after her sudden death, and James then married Mary of Guise-Lorraine in 1538. This marriage cemented the Alliance between Scotland and France but worsened relations with England leading to the war with Henry VIII, which ended in Scottish defeat in 1542. James V died in Falkland Palace, on December 14, 1542, “As a worn-out, desperate man, at the age of thirty years”. His daughter Mary, just six days old, was his successor.

By 1548, the Scottish were actively seeking French aid and betrothed their young queen to the French dauphin Francis, the son of Henry II, on the condition that Henry send an army to Scotland to drive the English out. Queen Mary of the Scots lived an interesting life starting with her father dying when she was only 6 years old to her execution at the age of 44. Many people can argue about her reign and how she was either unjustified or justified in her actions on how she ran her country. I believe she was an misunderstood women whose family screwed her over and had to suffer the consequences of her families ill actions towards her country. Having her life being raised in France she wasn’t fit to run Scotland as she was brought up with a different outlook of life. This is what led to her downfall and causing her to be executed at the age of 44.

Mary Queen of Scots wanted to be the queen of England and was ready to attack them. French forces increased their numbers, without planning to attack England. However, Elizabeth was worried and decided to attack. She sent her weak army up to Scotland and was easily defeated. Mary laughed in her face and sent back one of her men wearing the French colors. Later on Elizabeth sent an assassin to kill her and it was successful. Mary Queen of Scots was killed.
