How would you feel if your husband had six wives? King Henry VIII was king of England from 1509 to 1547; he succeeded his father Henry VII when he died on April 29, 1509. Although Henry was a decent king in England, almost everyone knows him as the King of Six Wives. There are even famous rhymes According to History.com the rhyme goes, “Divorced, Beheaded, Died: Divorced, Beheaded, Survived”. There is also a musical about his six wives appropriately titled “SIX”. This musical shows us the point of view of each of the wives and the betrayal they felt as Henry broke their hearts. The most famous thing about Henry VIII besides his wives was his weight. Between 1510 and 1518 Catherine gave birth to six children, four and two girls. All except Mary, her eldest who later became queen of England, died in early infancy or were stillborn. As a result of Cathrine producing no hier Henry was prompted to appeal for an annulment from the Roman Church in 1527. Henry finally separated from Cathrine five months after he married Anne Boleyn. Cathrine later died January 7, 1536. Anne Boleyn is his second wife; she was born around 1507 although it is not known she was first united with Henry when she was his mistress until 1525 when Henry and Anne secretly married later on Anne’s arrogant behavior made her unpopular at court later when she fell pregnant she had a miscarriage in 1534 and gave birth to a stillborn male. Still upset about his lack of a male heir, Henry convinced Anne to cheat on him and got her charged with adultery. She was later executed on May 19, 1534. Our next wife is Jane Seymour. She was born in England in 1509 although this is not for sure known. She is thought to be one of the major reasons for Anne Bolyn's downfall, although she was the first wife to provide Henry with a living male heir unlike his previous
