The Truth Behind the Bag
Doritos, Lays, Hot Cheetos, Fritos, Takis, These are a few of the many different kind of chips there are in the world, But why are we so obsessed with the consumption of this product? Eating chips is not a bad thing as long as you can control the quantity of what you eat. Chips tend to be addicting and recent research confirms that some chips contain an ingredient that may cause cancer. But my main point is to reveal the truth about the danger of eating spicy chips; Flaming Hot Cheetos in particular, and how it can affect your body and health.
We all know that chips are not the greatest thing to be eating all the time. Most chips are high in sodium, they have high fructose corn syrup and they contain a high percentage of fat. You mix that all together and you have a perfect combination of a very addicting snack. People of all ages; children, teenagers, adults, all consume or have consumed this product at one point. It is a tasty snack, and they have a variety of flavors to choose from. Think of the most absurd flavor you can possibly imagine, and I assure you they have that kind of flavored chips. It is a very accessible snack. You can find chips everywhere. In gas stations, super markets, vending machines, airports and even schools. It is also very inexpensive. For a good size bag the cost will not be more than a dollar and fifty cents. What’s not to like right? It all sounds great but what we neglect to see or to put attention is that it is great for now, but how about in the long run?
Today you see children that cannot even talk yet; children that are still in the strollers, you see them eating chips. Again in our eyes it looks fine to give them something to munch on, but do we stop and think that...

Eating chips is not a bad thing, overeating them is. We must be informed of what we are eating. Read the nutrition labels on the backs and make the calculations. The manufactures disguise the truth so it will not look so bad. Be careful of chips that contain high levels of acrylamide for they have some serious risk factors. We don’t always know the truth of what we are eating and how dangerous they can really be. Now just think for just a moment after all you read and learned do you want your children to go through; what seems defenseless, but serious addiction? Would you put your own son or daughter through that? Now that you know the truth behind the bag, get informed and spread the word.
Nutri-Grain cereal bars were created by the Kellogg Company and first introduced in the 1970’s Australia. They were later introduced to the United States and other countries. As more women began to work outside the home, the ritual of a family breakfast became obsolete as many individuals turned to quicker solutions for breakfast. There are many different beliefs about the proper way to eat healthy. People are often mislead and live unhealthy lifestyles as a result. Both Mary Maxfield and Michael Pollan explain their own beliefs on what a healthy diet is and how to live a healthy lifestyle. In the essay, “Escape from the Western diet” Michael Pollan writes about the flaws of the western diet and how we can correct these problems to become healthier. In the essay, “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating”, Mary Maxfield criticizes Michael Pollan’s essay about eating healthy, and explains her own theory on how to be healthy. She believes that Pollan is contradicting himself and that what he is stating is false. Mary Maxfield ponders the

In “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” by, Mary Maxfield (pp.442-447), she affirms a bright argument about how food is not moral or immoral. Therefore, you can eat whatever you desire and not suffer any negative side effects, which she ignores. Her key points including stated facts such as “Culturally,we resist these scientific findings,” that people can be fat and healthy, “in favor of a perspective that considers fatness fatal and thinness immortal.”(pp.445) The main point to Maxfield’s claim in healthy eating, is being active and living a fit lifestyle. When we think of our national health we wonder why Americans end up obese, heart disease filled, and diabetic. Michael Pollan’s “ Escape from the Western Diet” suggest that everything we eat has been processed some food to the point where most of could not tell what went into what we ate. Pollan thinks that if America thought more about our “Western diets” of constantly modified foods and begin to shift away from it to a more home grown of mostly plant based diet it could create a more pleasing eating culture. He calls for us to “Eat food, Not too much, Mostly plants.” However, Mary Maxfield’s “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating”, argues differently she has the point of view that people simply eat in the wrong amounts. She recommends for others to “Trust yourself. Trust your body. Meet your needs.” The skewed perception of eating will cause you all kinds of health issues, while not eating at all and going skinny will mean that you will remain healthy rather than be anorexic. Then, as Maxfield points out, “We hear go out and Cram your face with Twinkies!”(Maxfield 446) when all that was said was eating as much as you need.
Eating the pizza instead of the salad seemed like a good idea at the time, but now one is stuck in this sloth like state hours later. It seems letting cravings control what and how to eat is not the best strategy to healthy living. Mary Maxfield, in her article “Food For Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Food” discusses her views on how people should eat. She believes people crave what their bodies need, therefore, people should eat what they crave. Maxfield claims that diet, health, and weight are not correlated with each other, and because of this, people view obesity as unhealthy, thus forcing them to distinguish “right, healthy” foods from the “wrong, unhealthy” choices.
Many people in America love to get greasy, high calorie fast food from many places such as McDonalds and its competitors, but in the article “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko, he reveals the health problems associated with these fatty, salty meals. His articles are affective with its well organized layout, rhetorical appeals and tone which give it a very convincing argument. As you read through the article the author reveals the underlying problems with eating fast food and how there are no warnings of such problems posted. As a former obese child who grew up to diet and watch what he ate he sets a credible stance for the argument.
Everyone loves fast food, surgery desserts and indulging in sweet and salty snacks covered in chocolate. What people rarely think of is how unhealthy they may be eating and what they’re putting into their bodies. The consequences can be life threating if not taking the right procedures to maintain a healthy lifestyles. As we continue these unhealthy lifestyles they can be taken after by our children and their grandchildren. Children that continue in their parents footsteps or start these habits soon learn the finances as adults such as health costs. In “Bad Food? Tax it, and Subsidize Vegetables”, Mark Bittman suggests that the people of America should stop eating unhealthy foods so often. In the article, Bittman tells his audience that people have “heart disease, diabetes and cancer are all in large part caused by the standard American Diet” (page 35). He also states that eating healthy can result to a better health care system saving millions of lives. The big issue is Americans eating unhealthy every day, but proposing a plan to help stop it from happening.
Take a second to understand why fast food firms choose to sell products that are unhealthy. Their unhealthy products are in a high demand in the food market; in fact, they are simply giving us what we demand for. Most firms have started putting food labels on their menus so there is no room for excuse when making the right food choices. Nobody is forcing us to eat a whole box of Krispy crème donuts or a super-size meal at McDonalds. I believe that we are always looking for shortcuts in life and now we can anticipate there is a shortcut in what we put into our bodies. So we are consistently after things that are cheap, fast and affordable. Who better to attend to our needs than the fast food industry?
In American society’s everyday busy life, fast food is a commonly consumed meal . You can drive down a single road and often find more than five fast food chains’ restaurants. In a society where people are always “on the go,” a cheeseburger meal with a large soda is very easy to grab, and inexpensive. Although people might think it’s just a hamburger and fries, do they really know what is in the food, and how it is going to affect their bodies. Fast food has become a dangerous billion dollar industry, and it is harmful for the consumers. Those who know the dangers need to inform the others that they are taking a risk by pulling into that drive through, and putting their health on the line. People are consuming too many calories and aren’t physically active, because of changed lifestyles and technology advancement, in the last 20 years. Both adults and children pass a lot of time watching the television, playing video games and researching or chatting on the computer. These lifestyle changes encourage sedentary behavior. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that in their study to calculate obesity across the nation. In 2010 “no state had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%” compared to a maximum of 15% to 19% in 15 to 20 states in 1994 (CDC, 2011). Physical inactivity and high calorie intake from processed food has made big changes to our health. Now days people don’t even cycle or walk to the grocery store, or at least walk to the nearest bus station to go to school or work. Every year people’s physical inactivity increases while our eating habit become worse.
Cancel the fries and it will be the right consumption for the average person, or get fries without the salt added to the fries under the heat lamp (Muntel). Once a person manages their appetite, it will get easier to eat less. Leave out the soft drinks and substitute it with water. Every local gas stations, supermarkets, and even auto stores sale soft drinks. Soft drinks are accessible to everyone and are everywhere a person can think of. Blaming fast food restaurants and companies for individual choices is not having people take responsibility for their own actions. Restaurants now have healthier beverages like flavored water from Dasani and Aquafina. It might cost a few extra dollars, but they also have healthy, delicious smoothies and a decent variety. Eating healthy or drinking healthy does not always have to taste bad. Self discipline is something that comes easier to some than others. Fast food restaurants do not force people to eat their less nutritious food, people choose too. It is hard to ignore something that is delicious, but people cannot blame fast food places for obesity. Junk food causes a major problem in the world today because it is addictive, causes many internal and external problems, and there are many ways to prevent a diet filled with these foods.
