Asia was awesome! Everything, from the food I ate to the people I met, gave me a new perspective on life. I still cannot get over the fact that I have traveled to the other side of the world. This school program gave me many memorable experiences, allowed me to learn a lot about the culture of Asia, and introduced me to friends that I'll treasure for a life time. I knew that there was a reason I got to go, and while I was there I tried to make the most of such an opportunity.
One of my most memorable experiences in Asia was my trip to the doctor. I knew that my slight fever and scratchy throat could be contributed to lack of sleep. With a twelve-hour time difference, I had the worst jet lag that was possible. Yet, the Secretariat felt that I should go to the doctor, so off I went. Once we arrived I took one look at the building and decided that I felt much better. The office was a hole in the wall that practiced family medicine and surgery. It was in stark contrast to the gigantic, pristine medical facilities I was used to. There was a very long line to see the doctor so I took a seat next to a hacking baby and an anxious young mother. What happened next was the most distressing part of my adventure. Once my chaperone announced that I was part of the school program, the doctor took me right away. As I followed the nurse back I passed by people who had been sitting there for much longer. There was a man with b...

...nd was wonderful to shop with. Michael was a perfect gentleman. Marnie was always encouraging and understanding. Nisha and Rebecca Kozitza were amusing . . . and so on. If it had not been for everyone's wonderful personalities we would not have been able to endure such cramped living spaces. The final farewell was testament to the closeness of our newly found friendships. I look forward to another alumni event. Until then, I will treasure the friends I've made.
The trip to Asia was a chance of a lifetime. It could not have been any more perfect. We worked hard and learned a lot. The memories and friends made are unforgettable. I only hope that I helped make someone else's trip just as wonderful.
Next we have the Broadsword. It was a large, heavy, double edged sword that was used to hack rather than stab. The blade was a wide, sharp, metal layer of death. It was used to knock riders off of their horses, and to destroy the opponent's armor. Once the armor was hacked through, if the opponent was still standing, the Broadsword was of much less use, but still proved effective. With a length of 30-45 inches long, and a width of 2-3 inches wide, it was a powerful tool that only the strongest warriors, or knights,
Langston Hughes uses poetic elements to express the reader his feelings towards America. Langston Hughes is very upset that America is not what it promised to be. Living in America, he never saw America to be the land of the free, what it promised to be. Instead, he saw America to be cruel to him and now wants to change America to be the country of the free he thought it was. He expresses all his emotion about America, in his poem, Let America Be America Again, by using connotative diction, repetition, narrative tone and organization; poetic elements.
These nocturnal primates inhabit forests elevated 1,200–1,675 meters above sea level in Tsinjoarivo, Madagascar (Blanco and Godfrey 2013). Strong temperature fluctuations and food shortages require the lemurs to hibernate in underground dens during winter months (Blanco and Rahalinarivo 2010). During this time, their small bodies lower their core temperature to 15 °C, which slows metabolic and heart rates (Blanco and Godfrey 2013). Hibernation also explains why females dominate dwarf lemur social hierarchy (Blanco and Rahalinarivo 2010). Since females cannot forage when caring for infants, they must instead outcompete males for food to build up fat reserves before winter (Blanco and Godfrey 2013). Evidently, obligatory hibernation maximizes favorable food distribution and guarantees dwarf lemurs will have sanctuary from climate
Henry VIII, infamously known for his many marriages as well as his role in the English Reformation, reigned as king of England from 1509 until his death in 1547. After his brother died, Arthur, he was expected to take the throne. Henry married his brother’s widow, Catherine of Aragon, because it was his father’s dying wish. In addition to strengthening the alliance between the ruling families of Spain and England, however, their marriage was also meant to provide a political advantage. In the beginning, their love was genuine as he was quoted in a letter to his father-in-law about his new wife, he writes, “The bond between us is now so strict that all our interests are common, and the love I bear to Katherine is such that if I were still free,
...resting and wonderful. I had the opportunity to do and see things others may never have the chance to see. I feel very fortunate for having this opportunity. The differences and similarities in architecture and in paintings were a pleasure to witness. I enjoyed the culinary art of each of these countries as well. The way the food was presented was very artistic, almost like it is a painting. The streets themselves were works of art with the way all the cobblestones were placed. The art experienced on this trip was very insightful, it helped me to understand the different art styles of people and time eras. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to see some of the places where history was made. I feel changed for the better having been on this journey.
During the middle Ages, a system called feudalism was developed due to the dangerousness of kingdoms at the time. Feudalism was a set of legal and military customs for a structured society by allowing the allotment or owning of land in exchange for service, loyalty, and employment. Feudalism was a hierarchal system meaning that there was a pyramid of command with the king on the top. During that time the king was believed to have divine right, which means God gave the rule the right to rule that kingdom. The feudal system, a city within a city, was created to maintain order within the kingdom by giving barons parts of the kingdom to rule in exchange for their loyalty to the king.
In 1543 Henry married his sixth and last wife, Catherine Parr. Parr was a wealthy widow whose two previous husbands died leaving her with a lot of money (this will be Henry's fate too which will prompt some people to name Catherine a „black widow"). She was more of a nurse to Henry than his wife since he was very ill at this time. She was still able to slightly influence Henry and reconcile him with his daughters Mary and Elizabeth. She urged Henry to put them back in line of succession after Edward and Henry did this returning the proper titles and recognition to his daughters.
Q2: As of now, the earliest human like species to have existed was Homo habilis. It was one of the earliest of Homo genus. “Refer Figure 1” Key features include its brain which was 50% the size of modern humans yet it had larger braincase than earlier Hominin species. It features leg and foot bones, which indicated that it walked on two legs. It was also smaller than humans as Habilis stood no taller than 1.3m high. Habilis were also thought the first to use primitive stone tools mainly for hunting of prey and scrapping for new tools. Homo Sapiens differ from Habilis as they have
On a cool Saturday evening, a couple of neighborhood friends and I was outside playing a game of kickball. As we played, laughter and excitement filled the air as we ran from base to base. While playing an abnormal pain struck my right eye. I thought maybe it was just a minor pain that will go away. So I proceeded with the game of kickball. After a while the pain began to worsen and I started to get worried. I knew for a fact something wasn’t right so I ran into the house to inform my parents.
The plane ride back is always the worst part of any trip. You have just embarked on an incredible journey that always leaves you wanting to do more and see more, but alas you have to go home. This trip was different, however, because I felt so gratified. I experienced something I never thought i would be able to by traveling to where my grandfather grew up. I experienced getting to know someone I could never meet but am forever connected to and entwined with. Finding things out about, and traveling to places connected to your lineage can be a difficult undertaking, but very much worth it in the
In the early years of the twentieth century, Italy has created a new system of government, however suffered social and economic conditions. Improvements were made however, poverty and literacy were still problems that have not been solved well. While entering World War I, the nation was neutral up until joining the British and French in exchange for certain advantages. However, it was unsuccessful as Italy failed to take control of the territories that it claimed at the Versailles Peace Conference, and suffered significant losses. The ideology of fascism occurred when the power of Italy was shrinking and the idea of being a pacifist became weak. Benito Mussolini created a group of fascists to represent a means to stop the socialists and the communists coming into his nation.
“An Event Which Changed My Life” An Event which changed my life, well when, I think back on my life there’s Many changes for the good and some were bad but, there were some learning experiences that help make me a better person. The events in my life, was dealing with the Birth and The Death of my first daughter. The First, Event was the birth of my first daughter it, was a joyous event in my life.
Sometimes it just takes one event to forever change your outlook on life. One such event happened to me when I was only 5 years old. My day started out as most 5yr olds growing up in the south in the late 60’s, only I was a bit different because unlike my neighborhood friends, my mom was 55yrs old. My mother gave birth to me when she was 50 years old and I was the youngest of 8 children, most of which were grown with children of their own when I came along. My mother spoiled me rotten, she was very attentive to my every demand. And I mostly demanded cereal, Rice Krispies only! My mother wasn’t very playful with me (what 55yr old would be?) but I felt her love. She would not let me out of her sight, she was always there, until one day she wasn’t. I woke up that morning in my mother’s bed as I often did, and I shook her to wake her up as I always did, only this time the shaking wasn’t working. I remember yelling for my siblings to come wake mommy up, I needed my Rice Krispies! Only instead of waking her up they began yelling and screaming and calling people on the phone. What’s going on? It’s not that serious, just get mommy up! I saw men in white shirts running into the house and then leaving with my mother on a stretcher. I didn’t
There have been very few events throughout my lifetime that I feel have impacted or inspired me with such noteworthiness and that I know will change my outlook on the world and affect me forever. One of those events occurred when I traveled to Portugal, my parent’s homeland. From this excursion in 2007, I learned the importance of family, most importantly the distant kind. It provided me with a totally different perspective on the world and how large and extended one’s family can really be; even across cultures and continents. I felt so fortunate learning this lesson at a young age and growing to appreciate the ideals I was brought up with as a child. The family I have in Portugal has always been there; however, their faces have aged and are blemished with the passing of many years and difficult times. Some newer additions to the family have started to become a part of the modern Portuguese workforce. One of my cousins was studying to become a veterinarian and another was working as a nurse at the local hospital of Montalegre (or “Happy Mountain”).
I was able to spend a lot of time with my family, our friends, and play all sorts of games. This experience made me start to like traveling. Every time I would get the chance to travel, I will take that chance. We were able to go to a theme park, eat many delicious foods, and play many video
