As many of us know there has been a shocking number of teens mainly doing something called the Tide Pod Challenge, where they have basically been dared to eat a Tide Pod and post a video of it on social media such as YouTube and Facebook. On the bright side of this tragic ignorance among teens Hurts Donuts, a local donut shop in Springfield, MO, famous for its variety in design of donuts has come up with a funny twist in hopes of bringing awareness to this problem. Hurts Donuts has said that they created this donut as a way to say, “eat this (their donuts), not this (Tide Pods)”. Unfortunately, people have also been freaking out over this as well. I read a comment on an article that was suggesting feeding a donut replicating the laundry detergent pod to a toddler and then leaving the actual detergent pod laying around the house and wait for the young child to eat one, so they could sue Tide, which would be terrible. Then there are the ones with the sense of humor commenting “oh no, I accidently threw in one of your donuts in the wash and it made my clothes all sticky”, which is exactly I feel needs to be the message of these donuts, to take how serious this …show more content…
YouTube has also been adding age limits to the comedy videos. But why would teens be doing something so dangerous? Well honestly, it’s all about the likes, comments, shares, followers, it’s all about that fifteen seconds in the spot light. What better way to gain popularity by doing dumb acts for others to laugh at. This isn’t the first time something like this has happed, there has been several “challenges” over the years from the cinnamon challenge to the eraser challenge to the bath salt challenge. None of these are smart things to do but luckily the attention slowly faded away over time and teens stopped doing
The presentation will also emphasize how persuasive advertisements can have significant effects on society, including society’s ideological perception of products and their contribution to the nation’s overall health. It was even found to have more Kilojoules than an average Mars Bar! In fact, the study found that most muesli bars usually have more than 1000 Kilojoules. See how misleading advertisements and packaging can be! These clever marketing techniques give extremely sugary foods a healthy perception to make it more enticing to buy – even though it’s still not healthier than confectionary.
of Philip Morris, said “People could point to these things and say, ‘They’ve got too much sugar, they’ve got too much salt […] well, that’s what the consumer wants, and we’re not putting a gun to their head to eat it. That’s what they want.” (Moss 267) However, consumers are being unconsciously forced to fund food industries that produce junk food. Companies devote much of their time and effort into manipulating us to purchase their products. For instance, Kraft’s first Lunchables campaign aimed for an audience of mothers who had far too much to do to make time to put together their own lunch for their kids. Then, they steered their advertisements to target an even more vulnerable pool of people; kids. This reeled in even more consumers because it allowed kids to be in control of what they wanted to eat, as Bob Eckert, the C.E.O. of Kraft in 1999, said, “Lunchables aren’t about lunch. It’s about kids being able to put together what they want to eat, anytime, anywhere” (Moss 268). While parents are innocently purchasing Lunchables to save time or to satisfy the wishes of their children, companies are formulating more deceiving marketing plans, further studying the psychology of customers, and conducting an excessive quantity of charts and graphs to produce a new and addictive
James Franco says “Attention seems to be the name of the game when it comes to social networking”, I agree with this as all teenagers in today’s society seem to want is attention. This affects them by distancing themselves from who they truly are and what they believe in as they are very focused on trying to give the people only what they like to see. For example, the Snapchat article states, “Teens have this fear that people might be doing something cooler than us, so we feel like we need to make it seem like we are doing something even cooler.” Teenagers go that extra step of doing something that they might not agree with just to feel good about getting other’s attention. This has affected teenagers because they have forgotten of expressing what they believe in or what they
When teens are getting involved in multiple dangerous activities, parents usually get involved in straightening out their behavior. In this documentary, the parents are rarely shown, and when they are shown, they are not doing anything to stop their child’s behavior. The teens are having parties involving underage drinking, drugs, and other activities in their parent’s backyards. They are allowing illegal activity to go on right outside of their window.
Furthermore, schools have become a paradise for fast-food franchises . Vending machines stocked with candy and soft drinks are unacceptable: nearly 19 out of 20 high schools in the U.S. have vending machines that sell pop, while almost 60 percent of elementary schools do. More than 70 percent of high schools sell can...
Studies also found that 6.4% had intentionally cut bruised or harmed themselves and that 8.1% had though about suicide and 1.3% had actually attempted suicide. This evidence shows that social media is bad for teens and preteens. If social media got banned then there would not be any sort of problem like this.
...rts have suggested that communities and schools become involved by eliminating the amount of vending machines throughout schools and places within the community. It is also suggested that the government become involved and lower the prices of healthy food choices, and limit the promotion of unhealthy foods.
Although YouTube is a profiting site, it must consider the welfare of the community. This paper discussed the effects of wide coverage of YouTube and the accessibility of the internet. As argued before, YouTube being a top entertainment site needs to implement stricter rules about censorship. YouTube should censor videos being uploaded in their site to obstruct cyberbullying, to diminish portrayal of harmful or dangerous activities and to abolish promotion of nudity and sexually suggestive
Why is it that Tide ads have changed their ways and gone from a woman’s story about the greatest laundry detergent...
Is it youtube’s fault that kids are doing stupid challenges like the tie pod challenge, or there are challenges like the challenge where you light yourself on fire, there are other stupid stuff that can seriously hurt you like stunts and other things, these trends are born and driven by what people do when others might be looking.
Teens are inspired by many famous people, but these famous people think they are better than most people because their fame lets off neurotransmitter in their brain. This neurotransmitter is dopamine; it is the same neurotransmitter that goes off when one eats or has sex (Kardaras 2016). Dopamine is also given off when one uses the internet, this is why people become easily addicted because it makes them happy. Peoples bodies are always looking for happiness and with the use of technology one will receive happiness. This happiness is given off the use of social media and the false reality it creates for
Social media is having negative effects on teenagers. Since teens can feel safe behind a screen they are a lot more comfortable doing things that they should be more cautious to doing. First example of this is sexual encounters online aka “sexting”. Sexting is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photos over a cell phone or the Internet. By not being face to face it makes it easy to send explicit pictures to another person, and engaging in sexual conversation. Peer pressure plays a big role in these behaviors to gain status in the social
This world has become immersed in online media from socializing on networking sites to seeking information on search engines. People of all ages have become reliant on online media, but the most engaged users are the younger, more easily impacted generations. Although there are many positive uses for online media, there are many negative uses as well. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for these negative effects to impede upon the perceptions of adolescents. Some countries have been trying to reduce this effect by expelling the inappropriate content of online media ("Influence on Children Media...”). However, in the United States, children are thrown in the waves, expected to stay afloat in this massive sea, but many are being dragged under the surface by the nefarious temptations media creates. Content that is not appropriate for the young, growing minds of children are easily accessible; a myriad of devices may be used to access this material, all at the click of a button. Without adult content filters on online media, adolescents of various ages are exposed to dangerous conceptions. A world of pornography, violence, and public humiliation lay in the user’s fingertips.
Snacks everyone likes snacks and vending machines people all over the world has their favorite snack or drink that they like to eat or sip on . In most schools they have vending machines with the kids favorite snack or drink the kids like to eat.The government is trying to take the good snacks we like because they think that the vending machines are causing obesity. But my opinion is that it doesn't and my paper is about to explain why.
It used to be almost impossible for children to get pornography. Comer stores would place adult magazines such as playboy on the top rack behind all the other magazines so that only the title was visible and it was out of reach of children. Movie stores would have separate rooms at the front of the store for their porn videos; this way they could monitor who went into the room. In today's technologically advanced society, pornographic magazines and videos are becoming extinct. Computer users can easily search for sex sites, with millions and millions or results. All it talks is the click of the mouse and children can visit any site they want. There is know way for Internet sites to monitor who is on there site, if you click the button that says your over 18 they let you in, so a 15 year old can easily get on to the site. Pornographic websites also place other moral and social problems not just on underage teenagers but on adults as well.
