A Mandala can tell multiple aspects of a person. For example, it could tell me someone's favorite color, place, it could even examine what people enjoy doing. Essentially, it can express unique and meaningful characteristics of a person, place, or thing. Additionally, you can put anything on a Mandala, for example, rainbows, butterflies, cats, dogs, the possibilities are endless. However, all these symbols, signs, and things are not just any ordinary object…… these things have a powerful meaning. My mandala portrays multiple meanings, signs, and symbols that all mean so much to me. In other words I decided to draw a rose, and each petal would represent something of meaning to me. Let me start off with the rose, I chose this

I love My family uncontrollably, and there is nothing in the world that signifies the love we have for each other. They are always there for me when I need them no matter what, and so am I. They are very supportive in what I do no matter how complicated it could be. They help me up when I feel like I can’t anymore, and they don't ever leave my side even when things get bad and they are the reason of who I am today, I don't know what I would have done without them. Furthermore, You may be wondering why I mostly use Red, white, and green in the background, and why there is a bird in my mandala. Well, those colors and the bird (or the eagle) represents my culture flag. I am proud to be who I am, which is Mexican because I have something unique to share with the world, and I can express what I Love with others. Additionally, I have multiple cousins that are there for me, we talk with each other as if we were brothers and sisters/ brothers. We play around and stand up for each other, and I feel like I can be myself around them because they make me feel safe and comfortable. I also have aunties that support me and look out for me. We have parties as families, we love to just hang out, have a barbeque and just have fun, and sometimes I wish we would never leave. Equally as important, there are many different types of religions, maybe you're Christian, Catholic, or Mormon, but for me……. It is Catholic… I know
When we think of religion, we picture distinct overview of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to certain spiritual manifests. Various religions developed certain stories, symbols, and sacred backgrounds that explain everything from the meaning of life to the overall power of the Universe. Catholics are Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Catholicism shares few beliefs with other Christian practices but, essential Catholic beliefs are as followed: The Bible is the inspired word of God. Baptism, the rite of becoming a Christian, is necessary for salvation whether or not a baptism is done by water, blood, or choice. God’s Ten Commandments provides a certain direction — an ethical standard to
What is religion? Each person’s definition of religion is different. Each person’s faith is different. This is a question that has been asked for centuries, and regardless of the answer given there is no right or wrong answer. Religion can be defined as a group of people who have shared beliefs who feel their life has purpose or meaning. This feeling or belief that their life has meaning can come from outside of themselves, as well as within. Taking this one step further, these shared beliefs put into action in the form of worship, can be easily identified because they happen regularly. It can be said the Primal religions were in fact not religions. Some may argue Confucianism is not a religion. Others may say Taoism is not a religion. However, one argument can be made. All three of these “religions” share “features.” Huston Smith, author of World’s Religions, says “six features of religion appear so regularly as to suggest that their seeds are in the human makeup.” These six features discussed in World’s Religions are as follows: authority, ritual, explanation, tradition, grace, and mystery (World’s, Page 67). First is authority, Smith argues religion is so complex that people will need assistance or guidance from those held in a higher light, or of a higher authority. Next is ritual, which can be happy (a wedding) or sad (a funeral), rituals are shared between people of the same religion in many forms as a sign of common beliefs. Following rituals, some explanation is required. Many of a religion’s followers ask for explanations, some ask, “What is my purpose in life?” Others may ask, “Who is God?” Depending on one’s religion, the questions or
The pentacle is the circle drawn around the pentagram which then makes it into a pentacle. It is a symbol of faith in the Wicca religion similar to the Cross being a symbol in the Christian religion. I believe the pentacle is a symbol of protection and associated with magic as well as protection against evil. While the pentagram’s points may represent the elements: Spirit, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water; I feel as if
Religion is defined as "the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God" . There are many recognised religions of the world, which all teach its followers to live life "the right way", whose definition varies according to the religion itself. They have some beliefs and practices that distinguish themselves from each other. Some examples are differences and similarities of Buddhism and Islam.
Catholicism. There are three major differences in the teaching of the two. Christianity teaches by scripture and what the bible says, where Catholicism teaches by tradition. They believe that the church is the judge of the truth. They also believe that salvation comes from doing works and that people can’t be sure of eternal life. Christians believe that salvation comes from admitting your sins, asking for forgiveness, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. Catholics believe that Mary is the mediator between God and man, whereas Christians believe that Jesus Christ
It has been stated in the textbook that Buddhism is a lifestyle and a mediation practice (Altshuler and Janaro 282). Therefore, the white Buddha statue represents enlightenment and purity within the religion of Buddhism (Heim 367). The Buddha statue is the most prominent object within the picture, thus it depicts the representation of Buddhism as the overall main topic in the photograph. The lotus flowers that are pink in the photograph represent fortune and beauty within the Vietnamese culture (St John 562). In Vietnam there are three different colors of the lotus flower, which each represents a different meaning: red represents beauty; pink represents history; white represents purity (St John 562). By having that being said, the worshipers who are taking a picture with the white Buddha statue along with the pink lotus flowers represent the respect of the belief of Buddhism, in capturing their moment with the statue. Anello’s photograph of Long Son Pagoda capture the historical aspects of the Vietnamese culture along with the belief of Buddhism. There are many symbolic representations within the photo that are influenced by the Vietnamese culture and the religion of
The reason behind the Lotus Flower is I’ve always had a passion for Greek Mythology. The stories behind how the Gods and Goddess came to be and possessed their powers amazes me. Ever since middle school I’ve enjoyed the many different stories and tales that the Greeks have told. I want to visit Greece one day to visit the Colosseum and tour around the ancient grounds of Greece. Art and music have been apart of my life as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved to draw and listen to music for hours to understand the lyrics or get the full meaning of a song. Everything as an underlying meaning to it, and to see art and read about how an art piece or a song came to be fascinates me. The Veterinary Symbol represents my love and affection for animals. I want to be a veterinarian when I get older. I remember waking up so early as a child to watch the vet shows that came on Animal Planet just to see how people helped the animals. Saving and giving an animal the life it deserves is what I strive to do in the future. Beach waves to me represents home. I’m originally from Holdens Beach and that’s where the majority of my family live. I enjoy going down there to see my dad and just relax on the beach. It makes me feel so peaceful and at one with myself. I go there just to get away from time to
Each religion has a different perspective but most important is where the religions generated from. Major religions started in various parts of the world.
To me, family is the most important thing in my life. They always encourage me to be the best I can be and nothing more. A quote that I think describes family to me is one by Alex Haley that states, “In every conceivable manner, the family is the link to our past, and bridge to our future.” Through the stories I hear from my mother and grandmother, I have a clear link to my families past and the generation of women that led to me. All the values these women held close to them throughout the years have led to the formation of myself and my values. Over the past three generations, the women in my family have overcome oppression. My mother, growing up in a time where women could never have aspirations to be CEO’s or politicians, somehow came out stronger. She saw what she didn’t want for her future, and jumped at the chance to start a new life in America. No single model of family life characterizes the American family, despite ideological beliefs to the contrary (Andersen). My family couldn’t be labeled an “Italian family” or an “American family.” We are a mix of the two cultures and ideologies, which is what makes us different. I am the first women in my mother’s family to be born and raised in America. My great grandmother had a complete different childhood and adolescence experience than I yet we still have a common cultural base. All her ideals were passed onto my grandmother, than all the down to me, a hundred years in the making to become who I am
Religion, although very complex, it is something humankind shares with one another. Each religion may contain different views, or beliefs, but all are used for the same purpose. Religion may be used to make sense of the world surrounding us, for emotional and mental health, or just a way to live life. Religion can be much more than just a daily routine or following a set of rules on how to live life. Religion is faith in a higher or higher powers and it is that belief that influences how we live from day to day.
I researched traditional Buddhist symbols and drawings. Using inspiration from the research I created numerous designs that was elaborate, display Buddhist culture and more importantly symmetrical. I first designed the frame for the centerpiece, which was made from pieces of wood to create a secure structure. The frame consisted of seven individual panels, a skirt and hood for each panel. The frame also had an additional panel, which was the entrance. The entrance panel only consisted of a hood. Each individual panel was then attached to create an octagonal freestanding
Religion can be defined as a system of beliefs and worships which includes a code of ethics and a philosophy of life. Well over 90% of the world 's population adheres to some form of religion. The problem is that there are so many different religions. What is the right religion? What is true religion? The two most common ingredients in religions are rules and rituals. Some religions are essentially nothing more than a list of rules, dos and don 'ts, which a person must observe in order to be considered a faithful adherent of that religion, and thereby, right with the God of that religion. Two examples of rules-based religions are Islam and Judaism. Islam has its five pillars that must be observed.
My Mandala is about Respect, Honesty, Compassion, Enjoyment and Courage and the Cross. For respect I drew, a man saluting, I drew this because in the army a salute is a sign of respect and I chose this because respect is very important for me, for I would like to be respected for what I have done and so it is very important in my universe. Also for honesty I drew Pinocchio with his long nose when he lies, now I know that drawing Pinocchio with a long nose usually signifies a lie, but for my Mandala it means what happens when you lie, and so for me I want to show how it means for me honesty. I chose honesty because I believe that honesty is very important, because it shows a person's character, and I would rather have a friend who is honest
There are a lot of different cultures in the world we live in today. Finding the place you belong and discovering your own culture can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at culture as an individual versus culture in your family, or even within your community. I’ve always been very family oriented, so that plays a big part in who I am and how my family’s dynamic works. I believe that my family has had a huge impact on the development of my culture, and I hope that I have had the same impact on theirs.
My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
