The novel, Triskellion, is an adventurous book written by Will Peterson. The two main characters, twins Rachel and Adam, are on a quest to find all three blades of a missing artifact, which holds secrets about the village their mother grew up in. There are many strange events, along with odd characters that appear in this novel, and even more in the other two entries of the trilogy. They also have to find all the blades before the Greenmen do, which is one of the conflicts in the novel. In the novel, Rachel and Adam move to their grandmother’s house in England, after their parent’s bitter divorce. This novel represents the theme of great determination leads to great success.
In Triskellion, the main characters Rachel and Adam are on a mission to assemble a three bladed artifact, known as the Triskelion. The Triskelion is a Celtic symbol consisting of three legs (blades) or lines radiating from the center. “Why do we have to go and get this blade?”(Peterson 239). The artifact that they attempt to assemble reveals secrets about the village their mother grew up in. They also meet another strange but helpful character named Gabriel, who helps them assemble the artifact. Gabriel also plays a major role, as he persuades the twins to keep pushing forward and to

assemble the ancient artifact.“Gabriel wants to meet us at the chalk circle when we’ve got the blade”(Peterson, 330). Gabriel also helps them reveal the secrets behind the village of Triskell. There are several conflicts in the novel.
One of the major conflicts is when many of the villagers die due to unknown causes.”‘Are you kidding? How did they die? I don’t know about you, but I saw a knife’”(Peterson, 244). Rachel and Adam discover a bloody knife after there were many deceased corpses. Another major conflict presented in the novel is assembling the three-bladed artifact that holds secrets to the village’s past. “‘What does this Triskellion do, anyway?’” (Peterson, 294). The artifact reveals that the village was actually a sacrificial burial ground by a medieval knight and his wife. The knife was used by the knight himself to sacrifice him and his wife. There are also many few minor
conflicts. The setting(s) of the novel play an enormous role as the story develops. There are many mysteries behind it, and there are many environmental interactions. “A place their mother had spoken of since they were old enough to understand” (Peterson, 8). This quote shows that the village is very mysterious and holds many secrets. The author utilizes the small area of the village, entirely, as there is no part of the village left out. “Above it, along with various other landamarks, a simple route was drawn from the station to their grandmother’s house, Root Cottage, which had been marked on the map with a bold red X”(Peterson, 12). This shows one of the places within the setting, where the main characters Rachel and Adam live in. The settings in the story take part in many events in the novel. In the novel, Rachel and Adam go through several different conflicts, but all relating to the same major conflict. And in the end, twins Rachel and Adam present that through great determination comes great success.

Throughout his villanelle, “Saturday at the Border,” Hayden Carruth continuously mentions the “death-knell” (Carruth 3) to reveal his aged narrator’s anticipation of his upcoming death. The poem written in conversation with Carruth’s villanelle, “Monday at the River,” assures the narrator that despite his age, he still possesses the expertise to write a well structured poem. Additionally, the poem offers Carruth’s narrator a different attitude with which to approach his writing, as well as his death, to alleviate his feelings of distress and encourage him to write with confidence.
The article, Racial Conflict, written by Peter Katel in January 8, 2016, is about racism in the United State and to discuss if U.S. policies are discriminatory. Propelled largely by videos of violent police confrontations with African- Americans, protesters have taken to the streets in Chicago, New York and other cities demanding changes in police tactics. These brutal policing tactics had lead persons to say that U.S. policies are discriminatory. For example, Chicago police officer shot 17-year-old Laquan Mc Donald 16 times in the street.
