This essay will be explaining the differences and the similarities in the given prompts. The two prompts given are from S. E. Hinton’s book The Outsiders and Harper Lee’s book To Kill A Mockingbird.
The first excerpt was from The Outsiders. At this point in the story, Cherry was telling Ponyboy that the world she lived in and the one he did weren’t so different, as they could both be staring at the sunset from each of their houses. Four out of five of the excerpt from To Kill A Mockingbird were talking about the fact that people are separated - classified, if you will - into different based on similar traits and/or their lifestyle. This shows that mostly, the two excerpt are different.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is one of the most successful works of fiction in American Literature. Although To Kill a Mockingbird is classified as a work of fiction, there is evidence to support the claim that To Kill a Mockingbird was modeled after the Scottsboro Trials of 1931. There are many parallels between the trial of Tom Robinson and the Scottsboro Trials. The Scottsboro Boys were nine, young, African American men who were falsely accused of raping two white women while illegally riding a train in Alabama. Harper Lee was also about six years old when these trials took place. This is the reason why Harper Lee chose to write her novel through the eyes of a six year old. The trials inspired her to write To Kill a Mockingbird. Harper
The Outsiders was a great book, and the movie was a great way to wrap everything up. There were some similarities, but a lot more differences. When I watched the movie, I could see how the characters in the movie didn't exactly match how they were portrayed in the book. My imagination was on a different track than what I saw in the movie. In my next paragraph I will explain the character differences in the book and the movie.
On April 24, 1967, a remarkable book was published by eighteen year old S. E. Hinton. Themed on a greaser named Ponyboy who him and his gang are treated badly by the Socs, the book is about Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny on the run after Johnny kills a Soc. With help from one of their gang members, they sneak on a train to get to a church in the countryside. While eating at a restaurant, the old church catches fire with kids stuck in it, leaving Johnny and Ponyboy the ones to save the kids. While saving the children, a large, scorching piece of timber falls on Johnny, putting him in critical condition. While Johnny is in the hospital, a ‘rumble’ goes on in which the Socs and greasers fight in the vacant lot,
Separation is very common nowadays for an example getting seperated by clique, usually bases on bias. The Outsiders is a great book the book, it's about two cliques split. The greasers and The Socs the greasers are people who live in the hood but care for each other they always have each other backs, the socs are high class rich people, but are real friends. S.E. Hinton, is the author of this amazing book, along with that a movie of the book. The Outsiders book and movie is a great piece. However comparing the movie to the book they have some differences to the movie and the book, and the similarities to booth.
The Outsiders and The Wednesday Wars deal with misunderstandings among young people in the 1960’s and show how people can form friendships despite their differences. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about two rival gangs, the Greasers and Socs. Ponyboy Curtis and some Greasers befriend Cherry Valance, a Soc. She spies on the Socs and helps out the Greasers. Ponyboy and his friend, Johnny Cade, become involved with the killing of a Soc, so they run away to an abandoned church. When the church catches on fire, Ponyboy, Johnny, and their friend Dallas Winston, save a few children who were trapped in the burning building. Johnny gets injured during the process and later dies. Which is better: book or movie? The age-old debate. But which is better? S.E Hinton's, 'The Outsiders' book is far superior to Francis F. Coppola's motion-picture film portrayal of the book in 1983. You might remember it from the popular quote, "Stay Gold". Today it is mostly read in middle school classrooms. The Outsiders was published by S.E Hinton in 1967 when she was a teenager. The main focus throughout the story is the feud between two gangs: The Socials (Socs) and the Greasers. "We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder too". The whole book is written in Ponyboy Curtis's point of view. So, we are hearing the story through a Greaser's perspective. It is often difficult to make a connection with a character over the big screen. You miss out on scenes that did not make it into the movie, some that were are not emphasized like they should have been, and some characters were portrayed wrongly.
Can some people so different be so a like? Can some people so alike be so different? Dally and Johnny are those two who are so different, but yet they are similar. In the book S.E. Hinton writes The Outsiders, Johnny Cade and Dally Winston come from two completely different backgrounds, and have completely different scruples. Yet, at the same time they are alike. Dally and Johnny’s parents both repudiate them, making Johnny and Dally mentally tough, and the boys do not value their lives. At the same time though they are different, Dally is stronger than Johnny. Though, Johnny has a soft heart and Dally would not even pay any attention if someone is dying right next to him.
Whether we read books, watch movies, or simply live life, we cannot ignore that writers, directors or people create pairs of characters that may have things in common and characteristics that show them as opposites. Sometimes, they may seem obvious but at other times, the individuals have to be analyzed and understood. They are placed in stories to show the good and the bad in the story. However, placing similar and somewhat opposite characters together is clearly portrayed in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. These characters go through some of the same situations but they can be distinguished differently by the way they choose to deal a situation. Sometimes, their intention may be alike however, in the end, their doing is what makes them two different people. This contrast is especially evident when comparing Walter Cunningham Sr. and Bob Ewell, Boo Radely and Nathan Radely, and, lastly, Miss. Maudie and Miss. Stephanie.

For as long as people have had disagreements, there have been social classes divided by both ethnicity and wealth. The rigid social structure formed by these disparate groups often hurts the lower rungs of society, who many times end up disparaged by the rest of society. In S.E. Hinton's book, The Outsiders, the main character, Ponyboy Curtis, tries to combat the social separation between the Greasers, presented as poor gang members, and the Socs, depicted as rich and out of trouble. In the book Ponyboy, a Greaser, tries to escape murdering a Soc in self-defence. In Khaled Hosseini's novel, The Kite Runner, Hosseini illustrates the effect of the social and political strife on the country and its people through Amir, a rich Pashtun Sunni boy, and Hassan, a poor Hazara Shi'i. Hassan is sexually assaulted for being a religious minority and a servant. Amir abandons him and tries to forget until he chooses to save Hassan's son from the Taliban. Both Hinton and Hosseini explore the theme of class separations harming people, which extends across the two novels' radically different settings and characters.
There are very few differences between the Book and the Film of To Kill A Mockingbird. But one of the few differences that you can’t miss is in the film there are several characters that were never introduced such as Mr.Dolphus Raymond, Aunt Alexandria, Uncle Jack, Miss Caroline, Cousin Francis, Miss Gates, and Aunt Rachel. Also in the film they left out some scenes such as the scene where it snows in Maycomb and Miss Maudie 's house burns down. A few similarities in both the novel and the film, first similarity is that Scout Finch is the narrator in both. Another key similarity is the story takes place in Maycomb, Alabama.
As most everyone knows, there are differences between a book and it’s movie adaptation. This is applicable to the book and it’s movie counterpart To Kill a Mockingbird, as well. But aside from the differences, there are also similarities between these two.
West Side Story is a book about two gangs living in a large city. The Outsiders is a book with the same concept, two gangs that are archrivals. Even though two different authors wrote these books during two different time periods, they have the same story line. These books are realistic, because gang rivalry is still going on today. They are different, since they were written separately. Also, both these books have different problems between the main characters. Still, West Side Story and The Outsiders have many similarities.
I read the book The Outsiders and watched the movie the West Side Story, they had many similarities but they also had their differences. I enjoyed both the book and the movie they were very well written. I will tell compare and contrast the book and the movie.
